There are Windows 2000 drivers on the cd (at least the one I received back in December. Contact me and you can download them from me. Shrink

That IS 5.01 - it only gives you the boot disks which boot up a version of linux (by the looks of it) to make the changes. It works but it is not supposed to install in Windows 2000 the way it does in Win9x. Shrink

I can't believe nobody knows why Cd-Rom Drives Disappear fro
Shrink replied to Lynn Williams's topic in Hardware
Lynn - it is true that the manufacturers (Promise and Highpoint) recommend putting atapi devices on the regular controllers if they exist. If you don't have an ata33 controller (i.e. have a camino chipset or newer via or amd chipset mobo) then delete the cdrom and have it redetected. I have seen that happen when I have messed with the cd burner drivers (one of which may be corrupt) or if 2 incompatible burning apps have been installed. Delete the cdrom and see how it is redetected. If that doesn't work, run an repair reinstall and see if that works. One other idea would be reinstalling your burner apps (you didn't say which ones you are using). Shrink -
I am going to pick up an Asus P3B-F tomorrow and have a nice stable Win2k Pro install at this time. What is the best way to install a new mobo without a complete reinstall from scratch (apps and all)? Would booting with a boot disk doing a winnt.exe install maintain app settings while up[censored] hardware settings? If not, what would be the best method to avoid a complete reinstall? BTW, I am upgrading from another generic Soltek BX chipset mobo. Thanks! ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! I know :-) It was a beautiful sight and went exactly as you said (though I bought a be6-II instead). This is what win9x should have been able to do. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! Thanks Frogmaster - that is what I suspected. Win2k appears not to be as pissy about this as win9x was. I will just do another install overtop the existing one and cross my fingers. Should this be done as a repair and reinstall or install over the existing install (which are the only 2 options from command prompt)? I have also heard that win2k is often able to just auto detect all the changes at boot and reconfigure everything (something that wn9x was rarely able to do). Should be interesting! You need to find a s/n that is not on MS's known warez list. There are keygens out there that will do that for you... ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! No and No :-( RSJ CD-Writer works in Windows 2000 - it doesn't use packet writing, though. It is also expensive as hell ($150) and good luck finding it warez-ed. How about DirectCD <g>? Get Ontrack's Fix It Utilites 2000 - it is 100% compatible with Win2k, does pretty much everything that NU2000 does, and a little Birdy named Fosi is giving it away (but you didn't hear it from me) <g>. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! now - sure would be nice of ATI released TV Wonder drivers for that time. Does PowerVCR have generic Brooktree drivers? Works great, just not supported (yet) in Windows 2000. $50USD or $75CDN with regular shipping included. I take Visa :-) Shrink aka Stephen White sjfwhite@home.com UIN 43462208

Rattdawg - if you find it and it works I will be one happy camper. I know that there is a workaround which involves installing reference drivers and then another app for TV but that the audio doesn't work. Please let us know if you find out something different. I definitely agree. It blew me away when I installed BeOS that it automatically detected the TV Wonder and I could watch TV with it, just with the built-in software. I really wish there was a generic Brooktree/Phillips TV/Vidcap program and drivers so that we would not have to be put on hold like this. The worse thing is that Win2k reference drivers for the BT878/9 are out there but no existing app will work with them well in Win2k because each app detects the actual brand of TV Card and will not work if it finds any other card than the one that is manufactured by that company. I bought a WinTV and am selling the TV Wonder - any takers? ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! No problem - from what I have heard, ATI won't be releasing a driver for the TV Wonder until Q3. I wouldn't hold my breath - they said that Version 2 of the TV software was going to be released around 9 months before it was actually released. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! Probably a good idea to uninstall the mouse as well and restart from scratch. I have a BX chipset mobo, SBLive Value and a Voodoo3 3000 as well with no problems. The only other thing might be the SCSI devices having problems with power management and it somehow interfering with the mouse (especially if the SCSI bus is sharing an irq with the USB Controller). Good luck! ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! Hey Robert - I am using the same mouse in usb mode and can standby and hibernate with no ill-effect caused to the functioning of the mouse. What type of mobo/usb chipset are you using? ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! I think the only option you have is to use the 600 drivers from the Win2k CD. They work fine, except for lack of monitoring (the 640 doesn't give that either with the 600) and no 14400 res printing. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!
