jdulmage, Hey pinhead - all I did was cut and paste your original bombastic reply and put it in the third person. MSGuy - hold on bucko - jdulmage has been working with computers since 1992. He is currently one of the best computer students in his whole student. He has made thousands of dollars doing computer stuff. He has experienced so many problems and solutions far more then anyone of you will see in your whole life. So I think he knows what he's talking about. ROTFLMAO!!!!!! ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! The most likely reason is because they did a clean install of Windows 2000, cleaning out all the remnants of hacked video card and sound card drivers, and having Win2k in a pristine state allowed the games to run the way they should. There was absolutely NO magic associated with the DOS install. It was a matter of cleaning up the Windows 2000 install. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! Your school must be a scary place <g>. Your logic is completely erroneous and misinformed. DOS is not even LOADED IN ANY FORM, even if you delete the WINNT directory and install DOS and then reinstall Win2k. Furthermore, except for DOS games, no other games REQUIRE any DOS files and the majority of current Windows games work in Windows 2000. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! I got it to work by installing 2.5d, the patched 3.0 update from http://members.home.com/mlafreniere1/ and then the patch installs just fine. However, it offers me no more than 2.5d did because standby and hibernation are still hosed. I am going to wait for the one from Adaptec USA. Let me know if the ACPI functions are working for you. I am so glad I keep a Ghost image of my system to restore in these circumstance <g>. After that experiment I uninstalled directcd but my boot time was increased and I started getting WMI errors which were not fixed by typing winmgmt /clearadap. No more experimenting for now :-) ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! No. It will not work AT ALL unless you can produce a serial number that is not in its' database. The scheme you are describing is going into all new retail and OEM releases of O2K which include already SR1. Unless some intrepid cracker removes the serial # check, we are without SR1. No big loss as I have had no problems with the original O2K (unlike Corel Office 2000). ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! CRAP! I installed 2.5d and then tried both the setup and update executables. The _setup.dll file was in one of the subdir's but that didn't help when running setup.exe and, even though 2.5d was installed, I was informed that no qualifying adaptec products were found. Crap :-( ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! Good find! I am downloading it now. Did you try to install DirectCD 2.5d and use update on that? I am hesitant to screw up my system but will take the leap <g>. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! It has NOTHING to do with Windows 2000 but MS's anti piracy scheme. MS knows which serial #'s are in wide distribution and included a check for them. If they are detected then Office will be rendered inoperable. I know from first hand experience :-) ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! Mr. Sneis - if you have had all those drivers installed at various times, including Anthony's modified LW3, I would be doing a clean install and seeing whether these drivers work for you. Did you try the drivers that I sent you? They are version 1.3 from the CD, specifically for Windows 2000 and they work great for me. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! Good question! I would check the grc.com news server in the shieldsup newsgroup and see if anybody there can answer this. Zone labs frequents that newsgroup and the president of the company often answers technical questions. Zone Alarm does not support ICS :-( That is what the problem is. I would use Sygate for that purpose - it does ICS and firewall and is compatible with Windows 2000. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! I just spotted this at www.usbman.com (an excellent site for usb information): they have drivers for a Peracom USB Ethernet adapter. This device looks IDENTICAL to the 3com usb ethernet adapter and uses the same chipset from KLI. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet (i'm at work now) but the Windows 2000 drivers for the Peracom device should work for the 3com. Here is the link for the drivers: http://www.usbman.com/WebDrivers/Peracom%20W2K%20Net/u2e_304.exe Post results when you get 'em :-) ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! Remember, though, that installing 2.5d or any current iteration of DirectCD hoses hibernation and standby mode. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! Those are for the Stylus Color 640 not the 600. Can you confirm that they work with the 600? As was pointed out, Win2k ships with drivers for the 600 that work fine, except they don't have the utility that tells you how much ink is left. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!
