I think it might have something to do with the soundcard drivers. I am running with the 3DFX Beta drivers and have no "Sticky Mouse" When I load the new 3DFX drivers I have the sticky mouse. I put the Beta drivers back on. No sticky mouse. I load the new sound card drivers . I have sticky mouse. I put the old sound card drivers on. No sticky mouse. Sounds kind of stupid but I think the beta drivers for my hardware are better than the "official" ones. Present for all VA-503+ mobo users, New Windows 2000 bios

Please put it out for us. (I haven't had any problems yet but I am willing to try a new Bios) -
On your win2000 machine: Make a account for your Win98 machine. Do you have a logon for your Win98 machine? If you do then just make the same account on your Win2000 machine. Make sure you use the same password so that when you try to log onto the Win2000 machine it will let you in. You will also want to share out the folders you want to see on the Win2000 machine. You can designate who has permission to the folders so you won't have to let everyone see them. Good Luck.

My wife has a HP Pavilion 6535 computer and I loaded Windows 2000 on it. Does anyone know where I could find updated drivers for her video card and her sound card? (I have went to the HP site but they are absolutely no help at all)
-
Yep, I left it run for over 30 minutes and nothing ever happened. Oh well, we will have legit drivers in a couple of weeks. I can wait.

I have a Sound Blaster Live MP3.

When I try the setup file it doesn't do anything. What am I doing wrong? I have: Lw2kdsk1.lib Lw2kdsk2.lib Lw2kdsk3.lib Lw2kdrv.lib Setup.exe It starts to do a setup and then just dies. I knwo I am not the only person with this problem. Thanks.

I figured I was in trouble when I opened it up and found everything on the motherboard. I think I am going to pilfer some of the good stuff out of it and rebuild her a good system. I figure I should be able to take the CPU (Celeron466), 8 gig HD, 64 MB RAM, 40XCD-ROM, floppy drive, and the two net cards out and transfer them into a better machine. Heck, I only paid $500 for it anyway.

The video card is a "Intel Corporation 810 Graphics Controller Hub" The sound card is a "AC'97 Driver for Intel 82801AB Controller" (At least that is what Win2000 calls it) The HP site doesn't give any info on anything. I will never buy a pre-made system again. Thanks.

I think you should go back to Windows 98. Windows2000 is too high tech some people. Personally, I enjoy not seeing kernal errors and the Blue screen of Death. But some people ignore it and keep on trudging with good ol' Windows 98. Here is something to think about though. When was Windows NT 4.0 released? Now, when was Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, and, now the newest version, Millinium released? If you want to stick with ONE operating system for at least the next 4 years I would HIGHLY suggest that you try Windows 2000. If you don't mind paying $100.00 every year for a bug patch then I would say stick with good ol' Windows 98. Just my thoughts.

I know this has been posted before but there has never been a sure fire fix for the problem of the sticky mouse. I never had any problems with the Beta drivers for my Voodoo3 2000 video card but I figured I would give the new "Official" drivers a try. Now I am having the notorious sticky mouse syndrome. Has anyone figured out what to do to fix it? Anyone running Win2k Pro on a K6-2 450, 128 megs sdram? How
Beavis replied to pr-man's topic in Hardware
I have the same setup. Windows 2000 runs GREAT!! My wife has Windows 98 SE on her machine and I am constantly rebooting it because of random lockups. The only time I reboot is when I load a new program or I play a game that isn't quite optimized for 2000. (Need better video drivers) Win2000 Rocks! -
It was really bad in Unreal tournament, Quake 3, and Quake 2. It made it unplayable. Somebody must know how to fix it? PLEASE!

I tried the update from Microsoft but it didn't fix it. Oh well. I did put the old Beta drivers back on and now am up and running again without any trouble. Seems kind of strange though. The Beta drivers run better than the "official" ones.

PNP? HAHAHAHA I think those are the funniest letters in the alphabet!! I had a US robotics modem at one time and I remember wrestling with it for WEEKS. Here is how I fixed it. 1. Uninstall the modem. 2. Uninstall your Sound card 3. Shutdown 4. Take your sound card out of the computer. 4.1 Leave your modem in its slot. 5. Boot your machine. 5.1 Windows should autodetect your modem and install the drivers. 5.2 Try it out. Use phone dialer and see if it is working. (I bet it is) 6. Shut down your computer. 7. Put your sound card back in its slot. 8. Boot your machine. 8.1 Windows should autodetect your sound card and install the drivers. 9. Enjoy your modem! I know this has worked for me in Windows 98 and 95. I think the modem wants to use some of the same resources that the sound card uses and by installing the modem first it fixes the issues it has with it. Good Luck.

Here is a strange thing that has been stumping me for the last 12 hours. I can log onto my wifes machine and access the internet through her internet connection sharing. I can check my e-mail and surf all day long. No problem. When I try to download a file from the net it just sits there and then I get a message: "Internet explorer was not able to open this internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later." When I sit at my wifes computer (which is running Win98 SE) I can download anything I want. So I know the site is up and running. Last week I could download without any problems but then I went to a LAN party this weekend and I had to change my IP address to something different. When I got home I changed it back to the default and now I wonn't download anything. Strange isn't it? Here is another kicker. When I log in as the "administrator" I can download files without any problems. Any ideas as to what could have went wrong? What can I do to fix it? Thanks. If I delete the account and then add it again, will I lose the personal settings for the old account? (the desktop, program menu, internet explorer favorites)

I thought Linux was OUR operating system? It was made by US for US. <poke, poke> That should stir things up a little.

Go to control panel; double click on "Game controllers" click on "add" scroll down to the bottom of the list; You will see the Microsoft sidewinder (auto detect) Double click on it. Now it should detect it and you should be able to use it. Good luck. I have been using mine for a while now with no problems.

Yes, you can play games over the LAN. I have WIN 2000 and my wife is running WIN 98 SE. We play Quake 3 all the time.

I have NBA inside drive 2000 and NFL Fever 2000 and I can't get either of them to work under the 2128 build. I have a Voodoo3 2000 PCI card and have downloaded the newest drivers I could find. In basketball the game starts ok and then when I get to the actual gameplay the screen starts flashing like crazy. In the options menu I only have the choice of software mode or D3D mode also. I have tried both modes and neither one works. If anybody else spent $20.00 on these games and got them to run please let me know how. BTW Quake2, Unreal, and Drakan run smooth as silk BABY!!

Are the CD's copies or original games? If it is a copy, some CDs have a copyright protection on them that makes them look for the original CD. Have you put another hard drive in lately? If you have, the CD Rom drive will move to a different drive letter. (d: to E Make sure that the game is looking for the CD in the correct drive.

I can't get Descent 3 to work with Win2000 build 2195. I have a Voodoo3 2000 video card and a PCI 128 sound card. The game starts and goes to the menu area without any probelms. When I go to start a new game the computer screen goes blank and the computer locks up. I have the newest drivers for my video card, and everything else I try to play runs fine. Thanks

I am running Win2000 2195 on my computer. My wife has Win98 SE on her computer. When she shares out a folder on her system I can see it, and with the correct password, I can open it and stuff like that. When I share out a folder on the Win2000 machine, she can see my computer on the network but cannot access it. She gets the: "No permission to access resource" message. I have tried to give her permissions to my computer and to the folder but it has not worked at all. How can I make it so that she can access the shared folders on my machine? I am new to this networking thing so any help would be great.

Thanks!!! It worked!! I think I was using her computer name instead of her username. DUH? It works great now though. Thanks again!
