I've got a STB Velocity 128 and a Voodoo 2 (12mb version). My computer isn't top of the line, so some of the newer video cards wouldn't do any more good since the game would be limited by the processor (PPro 200). I have no problems playing Planescape Torment, Baldur's Gate, Age of Empires, etc., but don't I need DirectX support for the Riva 128 card before these games even begin to work in W2K? If 3dfx releases the drivers for the V2 today, I'll be able to play games that rely on it, but aren't I correct in saying that D3D drivers for the voodoo2 will not help me play the above listed games? I never did figure out when the 128 or the V2 was working in a game. If I am correct, I too would like to see drivers for the Riva 128 chipset. If I'm wrong, could someone explain when one card works and the other doesn't? Thanks!

Anything being said about the Voodoo2 (or is it called the Voodoo 1000 now?).

Anyone have the iomega drivers on some mirror site? They apparently did not realize how many people were craving their drivers, since the web site has been going at a crawl ever since they released the drivers. Today it's only going to get worse... THIS is why I wish more companies had released drivers earlier than the release day. There will be FTP servers dropping all over the place today.

Microsoft Win2k Giveaway (did anyone else win a copy?)
sheared replied to jabbathewocket's topic in Hardware
I won in the first round and got my copy on Monday or Tuesday of this week, but thanks to US West, I can not install it. They don't have drivers for the Cisco 605 DSL modem (which they (US West) have to support). -
I just received my copy of W2K also. I can't install though because US West does not support my DSL modem yet.

Just found this on Deja. You might give it a try and see what happens (it was posted on 1/23/00). ----------------------- I am responding to my own message as this may help folks with other "legacy" devices. I found that the sparrow driver, in the NT registry, had an entry for ""LegacyAdaptorDetection". This I found in the System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Sparrow\Parameters entry. I guess when I resinstalled, restored, the OS this was kept at at zero. I reset the value to "1", then rebooted. Lo and behold, NT found new hardware and installed the driver. Interesting, that this was the driver I tried to install myself but would not work. Well, the Zip drive is working again. I wonder if other folks, as the go through the beta cycle and overinstall NT are having the same problems with legacy devices? I just got off the phone with a US West tech and the conversation went something like this (summarizing): me: I need W2K Cisco 605 drivers. him: We don't support that, contact Cisco. me: Cisco no longer supports the modem, they say that Intel purchased it from them. him: Call Intel. me: Intel says they do not support the 2100/605. They say to contact you. him: I think Microsoft is supposed to release the driver. me: No. Microsoft is not supposed to release the driver. him: Hmmm.... W2K is scheduled to officially be released on the 17th. We'll release drivers soon after that. me: So you are working on drivers?!? him: I don't know. No one has told us yet. me: Is there someone I can contact there? him: You might try contacting Cisco. sigh... I gave up. This too is the only thing (that I can tell) that is holding me up from upgrading. I got my full version in the mail today!

I've not received my copy of W2K, so I'm not speaking from experience, but did you upgrade to W2K from W98 (or NT 4.0), or did you install clean? I wonder if the SCSI drivers I currently use in NT 4.0 would work in W2K.

Anyone know if Norton Antivirus 5.0 works in W2K? I purchased that about a month before 2000 came out, and now I'm hearing I have to purchase an upgrade (but no one has told me that definitively).

You have any luck getting this to work? I'm trying to build up a collection of how-to's for my PC before I install (so far, my once extremely compatible PC is quite incompatible with W2K. Sigh...).

Does anyone have any insider information on what the status of the above mention card(s)' Windows 2000 driver is? US West is completely silent on the matter (heaven forbid they tell the customer something that is useful), and Intel says they don't support the 2100 (although they plaster their name all over the box it comes in - end up referring you to US West (see above)). Any frustrated US West worker willing to give ANY indication that this card will get a W2K driver sometime soon? I've got Megabit Select service, and this is the only card that supports it. If I upgrade, I lose all internet connectivity. Thanks!
