Hello everybody, I am having a minor issue with internet explorer after I upgraded to SP2 RC1. When I click on the back button when I am viewing a website I usually view the HTML code when I click on back in IE. Is there anyway I can disable HTML code when I click on back? Thanks MarksmanX

Hi guys, I just need some advice on SCSI Hard Drive Write Cache. Long time ago I had a SCSI Ultra 160 IBM drive that failed on me when I remember enabling Write Cache in Windows XP at RC1. When an error appeared in Windows XP it totally destroyed the SCSI Ultra 160 IBM drive. I couldn't boot from it and the Adaptec 29160 couldn't detect the drive anymore. So I went into the Adaptec 29160 bios setting and enabled Write Cache when it was on N/C. Is this a good idea? Has this ever happen to any of you guys when a SCSI drive failed on your when you enabled write cache? It clearly states that if the drive fails or has an improper shutdown in XP it will most likely have a data loss or corruption on the drive if that occured. I don't know why it's enabled by DEFAULT! Any advice would help. I didn't have Write Cache enabled on the Adaptec 29160 card when the Ultra 160 IBM drive got a fatal crash and destroyed that Hard Drive. I just enabled it recently and re-enabled the performance tab under harddrive. Thanks guys!

Ok I foundout it's not a good idea not to enable it if you don't have a UPS. This is from the Adaptec support site. Quote: What does enabling Write Back Cache do? What if the device does not support Write Back Caching? If this switch is enabled, then the SCSI card will send a command to the device to enable write back caching (even if the default setting for the device is disabled). If the device supports write back caching, then the command from the SCSI card will override any setting on the device itself. If the device does not support write back caching, then the it will ignore the command from the SCSI card. The default "No Change" (N/C) setting on the SCSI card allows the device to use its default setting for write back caching. Hard drives are the only devices on the market at this time that support write back caching - CDs, tape drives, removeable drives, and scanners do not support this feature. Enabling write back caching increases performance (since writes are cached to cache RAM on the hard drive just like reads) but increases the risk of losing your data. Unwritten data in cache RAM is lost if and when the power goes out. This option should only be enabled if your system is protected by a UPS (Universal Power Supply) that will allow your system to go through a proper shut down sequence on the power of a battery even if the main power goes out. When the system properly shuts down the information from cache RAM is saved magnetically to the disk (and therefore is not reliant on power to retain the information). The risk of data loss is not worth the performance enhancement if your system is not protected by a UPS.

Post your system specs so I have an idea what is going on. I like Quake so I can't complain But for UT you need a special opengl32.dll which uses the S3TC which will help your FPS greatly. My gamma is pretty bad in Counter-Strike and Quake I. I did adjust it manually with the gamma command to 10.000 but nothing has happened. It's still dark Is there a gamma pack I can find to correct this? First you will needAdaptec ASPI updatesfirst. For the best burning programs I have used are Nero 5.0 and DiscJuggler 3.0. The best OS for burning is Windows 2000 for me. Windows 2000 has been good to me and never gave me any problems with burning CDs. Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4.03 is OK but not great. You will notice on your motherboard you have a Primary IDE Channel and a Secondary IDE Channel. Take your IDE CD-ROM ribbon and connect it to which one is available. Don't install your IDE CD-ROM drive on the controller. Install the IDE CD-ROM on your motherboard. If you need to flash your bios don't forget to reset the motherboard with. Once you have reseted the motherboard adjust your bios setting accordingly. If you're new to bios settings and don't know what you're doing don't update your bios and totally skip this part. Second go into your bios settings and select boot from ATAPI CD-ROM. Insert the Windows 2000 CD in the drive. Save and reboot. Once the boot sequence is done it will prompt you to press enter to boot from CD or it will boot to your secondary device (SCSI or EIDE Hard Drive). You should be in that blue installation screen at this point if you agreed to boot off from the CD. It will ask you to repair Windows 2000 or a freshinstall. You want a freshinstall . It will show you what Hard Drives are available for you to install Windows 2000 in. At this point you have the option to delete the drive and do a fresh format. Do you select C: drive press the D key it will delete everything in the drive. You will have to do a conformation that you want to do this by pressing the L key. Once the drive is erased highlight that empty drive and install Windows 2000. It will prompt you that you need to format that drive to NTFS or FAT32. Choose what you want. Than a format will being and you can go watch TV for an hour or so. When you return you should be at the enter the CD KEY screen. I have SCSI drives and I have had no problems in doing this But, if Windows 2000 doesn't allow you to delete the C: drive for some odd reason you have to FDISK it. Boot off the Windows 98 bootdisk and remove the C: partion and install the FAT32 file format. You will have to format the C: drive and than you will be able to install Windows 2000 again. If you can't boot off the CD than you can copy the file to your drive after your format. The folder you need to copy is the i386 folder. Type Winnt or Winnt32 and it will start the installation process. Boot off your Windows 2000 CD and delete your C: drive and then doing a clean reformat within the Windows 2000 installation menu. Or you could boot off the Windows 98 disk and fdisk the C: drive and remove the NTFS and put FAT32 back again (this will allow you to see the drive again but it will lose everything in that drive) Why did you use NTFS filesystem? If you're running games stick with FAT32. NTFS is meant for really really secure mode and protection. You need more RAM. You need a minimum of 256. What is your AGP aperture set at? Windows 2000 is more picky on overclockers. Some have total sucess while others don't.
