I finally got the courage to try out the 1.231 drivers. They worked for me! yay.. Hibernation worked and so did standby. I tried it only once and I'm amazed yet too scared to even try it again.. The last time i hibernated with the 1.22 drivers,my FAT for corrupted. C: went straight to hell.. my setup Dual celeron 366@550 BP6 w/QQ MPS1.4 256 RAM Quantum 13gig ata66 on IDE3 Quantum 6gig ata33 on IDE4 W2k installed and boots from IDE3 Good luck on your endevours.

So is it a general concensus that if you have ata66 drives on the hpt366 controller, hibernation/standby will only work if the drives are on the first IDE channel? So it's a no go if the second ide channel has drive(ata33 or 66)?? ALSO. i just want to check... Jerry: Is your ata66 drive your BOOT drive? thanks

Anyone try these out? after reinstalling w2k multiple times because of bad drivers and ****, I'm scared.. I know for a fact that these will not enable standby or hibernation support for the hpt366(since the damn chip doesn't support these functions). Did abit fix it so that these features are turned off? also.. how's the transfer rate? any better/slower/niether? merci. mr_yellow

A lot of peoples problems with TNT cards in W2K has to do with the fact that you must Reinstall Windows 2000 then the drivers, or clean install the drivers. But what exactly is the best way to do this? Here's how I do it. During session, Manage Computer->Device Manager: Uninstall TNT card(i have a xentor32). Click yes to reboot Reboot, go into Safemode, card redetects with WDM drivers). Say no to reboot. manage computer->devicemanager: Uninstall tnt card again, say no to reboot. Delete all Nvidia files, nv* in system32 and dllcache, and where ever else on the system. devicemanager->rescan for new cards. Tnt is retected with wdm drivers. Say no to reboot. Update drivers via specify location. Point to desired driver directory. say yes to warnings blah blah. Then reboot back into regular startup. anyone else approach this problem in a different way? maybe a way that makes tnt cards work?(my tnt2u still causes crashes). or am i just blowing smoke out my ass?
-
well.. i still get random crashes and ****.. so i'm running verifier which prevents those. so.. well. i'm running a semi-stable system. yay.. there's my update.. the drivers still suck. but i'm impressed witht he pinball.. lol.. later mr_yellow.

Dunno who cares, but a little update on my driver situation with the TNT2.. i just clean installed w2k. some mouse problems with the logitech drivers forced me to and i ended up installing the 3.78 drivers without going into safemode or anything like that... well, everything *seems* to be working but one thing perplexes me the most. Pinball works! it NEVER worked for me after installing any other driver via safemode(and I don't remember lasting long enough after installing with out safemode to test if pinball worked). I mean work as in the game works with out graphics glitches. before the screen would freeze but the sound and the "game" would still run. This is really really confusing me. I've gone from stock w2k nvidia drivers to 3.78 with out safemode and boom. things are still working. I guess i'll have to wait and update if i get errors with the age old media player/real player test and opengl/d3d..

Sorry, but i couldn't resist.. Quote: Originally posted by JimmyK: **** you man, so ur saying if somebody does something wrong and has no intention of doing the right hting ever that makes it good? u fing moron, how stupid is that? I don't know where the hell you interpreted "if somebody does something wrong and has no intention of doing the right thing ever, that makes it good." from my comments. I was pointing out the fact that Tony is *bad*. He's a PIRATE! like i stated in the previous post. He's just *extra bad* cause he doesn't claim to be!! nsnotling is *bad* Too! but at least he knows it! Duh! That's my bloody point! Edit: Just so you don't get confused, my stance is Pirating=Crime=Bad. Duh. [This message has been edited by mr_yellow (edited 05 March 2000).]

You have got to be kidding.. This is a joke right??

Edited because: This piracy crap is way off topic. is useless, and well, my deleted post just added to the fire so I decided to kill it. Blah. let's talk about tnt2 problems!! .. mr_yellow [This message has been edited by mr_yellow (edited 05 March 2000).]

It's funny how people rationalize their own crimes these days. At least nsnotling had the balls to admit it(and be proud of it).

Awww.. to bad the recent server switch thrashed the archives or else I'd be *****ing about searching before posting. haha.. anyways.. Yes Nvidia drivers blow ass.. especially with an SMP systems. THe media player is related to direct draw not working properly(hence the acceleration workaround). Affects realplayer too(but that can be avoided by unchecking optimized video in config) Here is another work around(a better one than pullyin gout the 2nd CPU) for you guys.. WIN+R -> run cmd.exe ALT+Enter to full screen it this is bring the monitor back online. Alt+Enter again to return to desktop. Tada. Thankyou to who ever it was who told me that one...
-
Just a side note:Not related to my above rant. Yes I have a pirated copy. Yes I believe pirating is wrong. If you can afford it and it's going to be 'mission critical', then you better pay for it. Whoa.. that don't make sense.. yep, i'm f'd that way... Just a funny tidbit: Guess how i found out about this forum? By PHONING LEGITIMATE TECH SUPPORT(that i paid for and now regret paying for). Funny eh? Just goes to show you how useless they are.
-
hehe.. I want in on this one... Is it agreed that the people who did legally obtain their OS software have full paid access to the software company's Tech Support? Yes?? YEs?? yes... Then why the f* come here?!?!? You've got a multi-billion dollar support group waiting for you on the other side of the phone, and you end up asking (us) the commoners... Oh wait, so you did phone them up. so why are you still posting here? cause they couldn't help??? Ah.. i see.. 2G's down the drain.. should have brough that pirated CD that guy offered me on the street for like $20... If you don't get my point yet, This is a help forum. People want help. Paying for win2k is basically paying for their tech-support. So if you do have a legit copy, why hang around here? Maybe to help other legit owners right?? Save them time from phoning up MS right? Can someone honestly tell me they offered advice/help on this forum that they obtained via paid microsoft support??? as in, "yeah, i know how to fix THAT problem cause i just phone MS last week about it.." No right?(at least i hope no, or else my point is sh!t). so why pay so much for the "useless" tech support??? You end up solving it yourself, or through advice from someone else who solved it themselves.. Hence, pirated w2k or not, we're all the same here. We should treat each other the same. mr_yellow

How to choke Win2k - BP6 and QQ bios? Please help!
mr_yellow replied to ragefire's topic in Hardware
Rage.. USB controller dies with the NJ and LP bios's when MPS is set at 1.4 in the BIOS(which is the default setting after you flashed to NJ). So set it back to 1.1 and that will solve the USB problem. If you're courageous enough, this is how to get QQ to work(with out clean reinstalling win2k). 1. Flash to QQ. 2. when you boot up, you'll get a bluescreen. 3. Boot with CD and Repair your win2k. 4. make sure you press F6 and use the latest 1.22 hpt366 drivers, and F5 to force ACPI multiprocessor configuration, when prompted to press f6. 5. proceed with installation, you'll get a duplication of hardware, like NIC #2. just ignore that since it'll still work. if you wish to reformat and reinstall win2k from scratch, just wipe, and proceed from step 4.(ofcourse step 5 won't apply). If you're going to do this, i'd suggest clean installing. Note: If you're booting with drives on your HPT366 controller, Standby and hibernation won't work. but shutting down will..(so no more holding the power button for 5 seconds). mr_yellow -
Awaxx.. Sorry to be so defensive... I too have been going through the forums since ~RC1. I know you're pretty pissed with all the redundant win2k talk going around. I simply started this thread in the hopes that we can somehow come to a decision onto the Best way to 'clean' install drivers, tnt or not. We all know the fact that "if all else fails, clean install win2k"(which doesn't make anymore sense than wanting to clean install the drivers vs. regular installing). To be perfectly honest, I've finally given up on figuring it out(my probs). I've decided that, having a xentor32 on a bp6(my setup since you asked) is pretty much a hopeless situation. too many variables come into play. Is it the fact that xentors are clocked higher? is it my beta QQ bios? is it the Highpoint drivers? is it cause my HDDs are on the ata66 controller? is it becuase i overclock 366's to 550? Maybe a smp bug? or maybe a combination of all of these? Or maybe the Nvidia driver just Suck... I am totally jealous of you people who do have TNT2s running w2k with no flaws and crashes because of it. I guess I'll just have to wait. So there you have it.. Any thoughts?

Would you care to show us how you did this?? thanks

Quote: Originally posted by Awaxx: Plez, try to find real question to real prob. Well the REAL problem is that if i don't "clean install" any TNT drivers, what happens is that dxdiag reports that agp and d3d are disabled, and the problems I already get with directdraw, where avi's, mpgs, winamp plugins, etc, will send the monitor to sleep or freeze my system all together, will occur MUCH more frequently. And i mean frequently as in, instead of a crash once every 5-10 reboots, a crash EVERY reboot. So you got an solution for me? Don't rag of other peoples threads just cause it doesn't apply to you. Clean installing DOES make a difference.

Did you guys install the parallel zipdrive specific update from Windows Update? maybe that will solve it..

Nvidia's 3.78 drivers and Win2k? Did they work for ya?

Quote: Originally posted by czar: my problem with the nvidia 3.65 and above drivers is that when i start a mediaplayer or any other direct video application and move or maximize the windows my screen goes black. is this a SMP related bug in the drivers?? (i have a Asus V3800 and an ABIT BP& with 2xceleron400) I don't know if you know this, but a way to get back to the desktop is by WIN+R run a cmd box, ALT+Tab to full screen then ALT+Tab back. Someone a while back told me of this neat workaround. But I still get lockups that are unrecoverable. <-- I should shut my mouth about this, I've mentioned it sooo many times here. mr_yellow -

so what would your step by step process be? 1. delete all oem*(this of course also removes any traces of non-nvidia drivers that had been installed(not good)) 2. just update driver files? that's it? and everything's running great? also, do you have a tnt or geforce?

Nvidia's 3.78 drivers and Win2k? Did they work for ya?
mr_yellow replied to Quantus's topic in Hardware
Nope! Its not working. I've *****ed about this before, i might aswell again. I've gotten random freezes(recoverable only by HW reset), I suspect it's also related to the highpoint ata66 controller. Monitor Sleeping during directdraw accelerated apps(winamp plugins, mpgs, avis realplayer)(recoverable only by full screen dosprompt and switching back) Freezing during resolution changing(flipping from maximized to fullscreen mode in avis/mpgs), loading of games, ie halflife, UT, Q3)... BP6, drives on ata66, tnt2u(xentor 32). 2195. ARGH! Though reducing the acceleration slider in the advanced properties to disable d3d and ddraw solves the first and second problems. But i don't wanna do that do i?? no.... -

That logic is totally valid. but there can be many reasons why they've stuck with lw1(err. 2.2). since these updates are suppose to be for dell machines only, maybe they've only been able to internally certify lw2.2 to work on all their platforms. Maybe creative doesn't want them to use lw3 in hopes that when creative comes out with their w2k compatible drivers, it'll have lw3. or.. well, i dunno. there's always a little optimism(and experimentation) on our part. I'm still trying to remember what i did previously to get lw3 to successfully(but not functionally) install on my bp6 system. Anyone of the same smp boat remember?
