    Get out and VOTE Today!

You silly Americans, you have doomed yourselves and probably Australia, to a pointless war with Iraq. It reminds me of Galaxy Quest: "By Grabthar's hammer, by the sons of Worvan, you shall be avenged." I'll get the bastard for you Daddy!!!!!
  2. Solaris - you can get it free for personal use apparently. Well I used to have a free version 7!!! It's a fine challenge and is compatible with stuff.

    2 screens with xp

From memory, any of the Trio series will not work as the secondary monitor in XP or 2k. Not sure if it will go primary, but I know that it will not work as secondary. Your best bet is to pick up an old Matrox Millennium for about $10US as these cards always work, but ditch the S3. My work machine uses a low profile Raedon VE 32mb and that is really nice for dualling it up.

    Work computers...

I got a Dell Optiplex P4 2gHz on Friday, with 32mb Raedon dual head with flat screen LCD monitors. I'm a Database Admin & Telemetry Network Admin for out local government. Now look at my home system
  5. OKay I'm getting really pixed off at the speed of the following sites: - Any Hotmail site - Any Yahoo site - Windows Update No matter what type of medium I use to access (I've tried ISDN, ADSL, Cable, T1 and good ol' 56.6kbps smoke signals) I always have to wait about 200% - 500% longer than I do for other Mainstream sites such as CNN, ABC etc. Do any of you have similar issues and do they cause you great consternation?

    Whoah, shiny!!!!!

Hey Philip, Nice paint job. Did you get new rims included. This looks cool. F.
  9. If you install the bonus pack of stuff (I think called Admin Tools) that comes on the Windows CD or download it from the MS site, there is a proggy called "browstat" that access all the network stats. Using the command prompt type: "browstat v 1 workgroup" browstat - program v - view all machines 1 - network adapter workgroup - name of your workgroup/domain This will display a full list of names on the network and can be used to get names of all other computers. There are also many other programs that do this kind of thing in a GUI format, from memory on is TCPView. Just do a search on Download.com for Network Viewing Utilities. Hope this helps.
  10. Hmmm...... Spiderman The Movie The Game. 8) Why does this title pop images of Mel Brooks flogging off Spaceballs: The bedsheet, Spaceballs: The Hairspray, Spaceballs: The Doll Perhaps I'm just warped...... x)

    tv-out on graphic cards

TV-Tool and/or TVCC2000 will only work on non-GF4 nViddia cards. They cannot get the spec for the GF4 cards so cannot write the required interpreters for their programs. Bad luck all those with GF4's.

    My arcade control panel

All looks a bit sinister to me...... You be a southpaw Mr Bursar? Looks to me like it's going to be hard for a right-hander to use (not meant as a critisism, just an observation). I'm ambidextrous but still prefer the stick in my right-hand. I find it easier just to point at a button with my weaker hand than control a stick.

VMware is good too. (http://www.vmware.com) I've always liked that.

Can someone help clear some NT issues up?

Deus Ex should be fine. OpenGL and wave sound should be fine. However the advantages of USB mousing in gameplay cannot be under-rated.
  17. Did anyone else in Australia, or anywhere else for that matter notice that tonight's episode of Enterprise titled "Detained" had the quality of the video/sound turned down to look like the original series. The bridge and space scenes look so old school, so much like The Original Series just in the light roughness of the presentation. Anyone else think so? Maybe my reception is just a bit off.

Having a LAN party need setup tips

You will also need: Beer 3x cases Jack Daniels 2 bottles Chips 10x packets Pretzels 5x packets Pizza 2/person Please multiply the above quantities by the number of days you will be LANning. On the technical side, is the hub 10/100 switched? It will be faster if so. Make sure either: a) all individual machines have replicated accounts on the server or server has guest account enabled with no password. If you have the guest account enabled and the machines in the same subnet/mask then you should have no problems. If you continue to have problems, try up[censored] your LMHOSTS file.

Can someone help clear some NT issues up?

Basic rule is: OpenGL - YES DirectX - NO (However if it's an old game that only requires DX3a it should work). You can try using setwin95.cmd to make stuff install if it thinks that it only works on Win95.

    Mel Gibson & Crop Circles

:x Righto, I saw SIGNS on the weekend and I'll just say WOW. I haven't been that tense since watching King's Graveyard Shift. If you haven't seen it, forget work, school, children etc and SEE IT NOW. Whilst Mel Gibson played an excellent role, he had a fine supporting cast.
  21. I have been offered on of these cards for $AUS100 ($US50). Should I buy it? Is there any issues with this card and XP or my systems specs that anyone knows about. What about the KYROII chipset? Thanks, F

    Finally made it to Hawaii

Sapiens74, You are in Hawaii. My two points are: Why are you inside on the 'net when there are people (your preference) sitting on the beach waiting to meet you? ;( If you have a partner with you, I have two things to say to you....secluded lagoon, spa bath. :x For those of us stuck in Winter, doing boring jobs, allow us to live vicariously, PLEASE!!!!!!!!! 8)

TV Tuner card flickers with new Athlon XP 2000

What speed is your PCI bus running at? I had a TV card (LifeView '98 FM) that would clap out when I upped the clock speed to 83mHz but would run fine at 66, 75, 100, 133 etc. Not only would it not work, it's media codecs would lock all video-playback function. Check that the card can handle your PCI bus speeds. Even though you aren't overclocking, your bus speed could be outside its spec.

    Commonwealth Games

I'd just like to say "Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi" at this point and remind my British bretheren to prepare their customs officials for the amounts of Gold, Silver and Bronze which will be leaving their ports in the next two weeks. Go Aussie. PS - Why did they use "terrible Enterprise song" as some kind of Games theme????
