You don't need both - just download the full version of SP2. Unless you can find a friend who has it, it's easier to buy a computer mag with cover CD. Microsoft doesn't allow anyone to mirror their stuff anymore - only available from conexion.com

Just finished installing Mandrake 8.0 and I think it's quite good. It even had my TV Tuner working first time. The only problem I had was with my second network card as it doesn't use DHCP and it had issues on the first boot. I also am a big fan of the boot loader screen.

I can think of many good reasons why NetBEUI should be left out. Why would you want to use a poor quality protocol like NetBEUI anyway? Everyone uses TCP/IP for net stuff, so bind NetBIOS to TCP/IP. The three best reasons for NOT using NetBEUI: 1. It is not routable 2. It has no error checking capability 3. It suffers from packet loss on congested networks. I think it's a step in the right direction leaving it out. To get NetBIOS working over TCP/IP, use the following steps: 1. Ensure both machines have same IP and Subnet range (eg 192.168.1.x & 255.255.255.0) and then bind NetBIOS to TCP/IP. 2. Ensure both machines use same workgroup (not necessary but easier) 3. Ensure file sharing is enabled and that both machines have corresponding account names, or guest accounts.

If you go to the games compatibility listing, I posted a work-around for this game. Follow that and it will work fine.

In Outlook 2k: File >> Open >> Personal folder file >> archive.pst Then browse just like your standard inbox etc....

The i740 drivers DO NOT support OpenGl under Win2k and there's nothing that be done to change that short of writing your own drivers. Even DX doesn't work real well. Best option - buy another card. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

Phillip, Is it possible to enable the "rate user" function to enable instant feedback for anything that a person posts? This should help with the flaming - I guess. Thanks.

Once we know the genome, the BORGifying of the human race can begin. No seriously, I think that (like most technology) it's a double edged sword. We could get ****ed up by it if it gets into the wrong hands or it could save millions from the worst plagues of the 20th and 21st centuries (AIDS, Cancer etc). They can map my DNA anytime they want, when I'm gone they can clone me and I will take over the world muhahahahaha!!! PS - Card, did you go to any of the ANZAC services this morning. I went to the one in Wollingong and it was damn cold.

Dream features - your list of what you wish you could do in
felix replied to Pythagoras's topic in Customization & Tweaking
OKay, that's damn cool. It that Litestep? Anyway, my dream features for windows environment: A replicator that has optimal algorithms for reproducing - double bourbon & coke - triple espresso caramel latte - herb, tomato, garlic and salami pizza - that G-13 pot they talked about in American Beauty. Back to the real world - I want a machine that doesn't have to be rebuilt if you accidently install some crappy drivers. ;( -

It's amazing how cool such a simple idea can be. Thanks for that!!!!

Although I'm not a great Techno / Dane fan, I've gotta admit that some of the stuff I've heard from Gatecrahser isn't bad. Bonkers are pretty cool too!!

I tried to post a list of all my mp3s but the page timed out before I got em up here.

As far as security, it would be better for you to use the built-in telnet daemon and IIS for your ftp site. Both are free with Win2k and work off your existing user accounts.

I hate to ask for something without giving something in return, but the link doesn't work for me. Is there anywhere else that does work. Thanks.

I think that you "Revilre" need to take a step back. You state that you encode your mp3s at 256/44. I must point out to you that your CD's only have a rate of 172/44. Thus you are using up excess harddrive space to allow you to enjoy the sounds of silence. If you want really top quality mp3s you should encode them from DAT which uses 1xx/48. Beyond that, remember not everyone here has english as a first language and thus much of the so-called animosity that floats around this board is simply due to lack of experience with the Anglo speak. For more information about mp3 encoding details, do a search for Napster and cross reference it w/Felix and you should get a large post I wrote about 3 months ago.

I put in an old 2gb harddrive and told Win2k to use the whole thing as swap space. I figure, with 288mb or RAM it won't get that high anytime soon, so why use some good hard drive space? ------------------ Written on Win2000 using: PII 300 Aopen AX6B 288mb RAM Diamond Viper 770 32mb Matrox Millenium2 2mb SBLive! Right, you reckon the Santa Cruz card is good. Cool, because my friggin Live!value died last friggin week and I am severely pi55ed. Only 18 months old and it dies - what a croc of sh1t. I'm now using a 4yo SoundBlaster PNP ISA and it works!!! Biatch. PS does anyone know who sells the Santa Cruz or Philips card in Australia? I need a new soundcard - I hate only 2 speakers, must have atleast 4. ------------------ Written on Win2000 using: PII 300 Aopen AX6B 288mb RAM Diamond Viper 770 32mb Matrox Millenium2 2mb SBLive! A program called file scavenger works really well.

Well for starters they both are RAM hogs compared to either Media PLayer 6.4 or Winamp. You can skin Media PLayer 7.0 woohoo I prefer a Media PLayer 6.4/Winamp combo.

For Philip or SHS: Just out of interest. How much disk/storage space does the entire NTcompatible message forum use? I mean, we don't post many pix etc, but I would be interested.
