Hello "mdntblu", You really should do some more research before coming onto this site with members who been using XP/Whistler since Alpha 1 and spouting your uninformed opinions. Are you even aware of the advances in compatibility that have been made with XP? Or perhaps the hot switch user feature. Or perhaps it's the built in Terminal Services that make it so nice. Anyway, I believe that you need some serious education because it appears that the only 2k/XP experience is that which you've picked up at school writing emails and surfing for pr0nz. Good day.

HAHAHAHAHAHA A site who's forum admin is named "elite76". ROFLMAO!!!!! I bet if you were able to check the subscrpition list all the addresses would end in either '@aol.com' or '@webtv.com'. I think JeffK (http://www.somethingawful.com/jeffk) should have a hack at it. What you have breifly described is why mp3 is termed a lossy compression standard. Once you encode it - the VHigh and VLow frequency stuff is gone forever. As for sound quality, I've only noticed that effect on cheap speakers. On my system [2x(12" woofers, 4" mids, 2" tweerers)front and 2x(8" mids, 2" tweerers)back] a CD sounds much better than an mp3. ------------------ Written on Win2000 using: PII 300 Aopen AX6B 288mb RAM Diamond Viper 770 32mb Matrox Millenium2 2mb SBLive! My question is: Now that the Whistler Beta program is in full swing and many people have "obtained" copies through one means or another, can we discuss issues etc on this board much the same as we discussed 2000 betas? I would be interested to know of others experiences and views on Whistler as, although it is only Windows 5.1, it would still be good to have an open forum to discuss issues and opinions. What do the rest of you think? Felix. ------------------ Written on Win2000 using: PII 300 Aopen AX6B 160mb RAM i740 8mb SBLive! The backup browser is stopping." And my girlfriends PC has the same errors. Hope this helps some. Confusing to me! </font> Okay, Error 1 refers to the fact that your machine is attempting to retrieve a network browse list from the machine named MONICA but is not receiving the list. This is not a great problem unless you cannot see any computers in Network N'hood. Then the owner of MONICA needs to sort out their master browser settings. Error 2 is a consequence of error 1. Your machine is attempting to become a backup network browser using the browse list obtained from MONICA. It is unable to obtain this list and as a result it is choosing to stop being a backup browser. The device is your TCP/IP stuff (better word needed) of your LAN card. By the sounds of it, MONICA is not distributing a browse list to the computers on the network which it should as part of being the master browser. This generally points to someone buggerising with the domain master settings in the registry or a corruption of some part of SAMBA or TCP/IP. Hope this helps.

Does anyone know how to make a wallpaper stretch over a dual display system. So far I can only get the same image on both rather than one image. If anyone knows, I would be grateful at least into next week ------------------ Written on Win2000 using: PII 300 Aopen AX6B 288mb RAM Diamond Viper 770 32mb Matrox Millenium2 2mb SBLive! Okay, I just bought 128mb of RAM for $88AUS. That's about $45US. What's the deal? Has someone flooded the market? Whilst I'm not complaining, I'm a little confused. ------------------ Written on Win2000 using: PII 300 Aopen AX6B 288mb RAM Diamond Viper 770 32mb Matrox Millenium2 2mb SBLive! Okay, crazy idea #427. Why couldn't you install your OS to suit the game (drivers etc) and then burn that entire installation to CD. Then just boot off the CD and away we go?

What pisses me off is Novell users who believe all the ghost stories Novell plants spread. They then attempt to argue that Novell is a better system simply because they've heard that Win2k crahed one time because of drivers. As far as I'm concerned, it's not MS' fault, it's the lamer hardware companies who write sh1tty drivers that do things they shouldn't. A prime case of this is the drivers that have been released for my LifeView FlyVideo. The previous version simply crahed my comp whenever I tried to access video properties. Perhaps it's time for hardware to stop telling lies about MS and admit that it's their smackhead drivers that fork up people's systems. MS provides them with the OS specs, how haed could it be to stick with them. Here ends the soapbox rant. ------------------ Written on Win2000 using: PII 300 Aopen AX6B 160mb RAM Diamond Viper 770 32mb Matrox Millenium2 2mb SBLive! I tried to upload the files I use but I can't see an incoming directory.

You could try what I have: A piece of 12cm diameter air-con ducting that takes the air from the front case fan and dumps it on top of the processor. Dropped my processor temp by 7-10 degrees. ------------------ Written on Win2000 using: PII 300 Aopen AX6B 160mb RAM Diamond Viper 770 32mb Matrox Millenium2 2mb SBLive! I am so happy. I finally found a video card that will run secondary under win2k. It is a Matrox Milennium 2. Hope that's some help for you Inferno2000. However it doesn't have TV out.

Have you enabled the WIN2k guest account?

No you shouldn't use NetBEUI at all on either machines!!!!!! You have to have TCP/IP installed for web, mail etc, so use that for NetBIOS traffic. NetBEUI doesn't utilise error checking and can lead to data corruption on problematic networks. In short, don't install NetBEUI.

OKay, The difference is thus: CD's are recorded at 172kbps/44khz. Thus the only mp3 files that capture even close to CD quality are those encoded at 192/44. DAT uses 48khz so they are even higher quality. My main problem with most mp3s is that they are done at either 128 or 160 kbps meaning that there is a certin amount at the top and bottom of the bandwidth that although you can't hear, still affect the music. Think about it. Everything has a resonant frequency which causes inferences with everything else, now when CD is recorded in a stuio, the recording gets every resonant frequency in the studio, so if you cut out some of the "unhearable" frequency, it still affects the music. This is why vinyl is so much better than CD as all of the ambient noise - or lack of is recorded and nothing is left out - unlike CD's which still cut some but not all. I may have some facts wrong here so if you know where I'm wrong, please correct me as I want to be sure I'm not misleading anyone. -
I have one thing to say (without being a smartarse) - It is no wonder your machine takes so long to boot with all that stuff you have loading. If you didn't run some of those programs at all you would be much better off. I do have to ask about the use of a "virtual" pet. I think talking to my Labrador outside is a much better form of relaxation. But who am I to judge - to each their own.

Damn, I hate it when I'm wrong. Especially when I should know better. -

Nero is best for MP3 to Audio CD as it can write them without decoding. With Adaptec you have to decode back to .wav before you can write the cd. -
I switch between a solar eclipse, Mars and elkfire.jpg - these pictures are small (except mars) and quite sharp

Well, I have a 386 with no power supply, so you can all take your Tonka toys and bow down to my Ferrari of a 386. Even without a power supply it loads faster than it takes oXide to unzip his fly and start smoking the bacon.

Don't be ashamed. I have a analog 15inch monitor that has a screen size only 2mm smaller than my 17inch monitor (I kid you not - i was amazed) but then it is a MAG. This MAG can do 800x600x100hz and it was manufactured in 1994. There's nothing wrong with old technology, s long as it's good technology.
