greetings all just a quick note on getting the carmageddon to work.. it comes with an old setupapi.dll from nt4, just copy the one from your \winnt folder to the carmageddon TDR alpha demo folder (overwrite the one thats there) and all is looking good on my tnt2, and geforce (otherwise get missing export messages when trying to start the game!)

same story here with a tnt 1 with 5.17 drivers, runs beautifully the first time, if i quit and attempt to reload it hard lock

you are probably in same boat as i am with the TD8000 series from awai, seems the inf file for the device is screwed up either ms is using wrong names or awai is reporting wrong name to bios etc, but you need to play with inf to match what hardware is reporting (mine was A8000 in the inf file (included with win2k)but was 8000-A in the inf file a simple new line addition was all it took to make it work

yep that is the way it should be, if you want to continue to use the original username from win98 just make a user on the win2000 machine same name as 98 machine with appropriate access rights to the shares hope that helps

a question to all who may have experience with bellsouth dsl service,I would like to get it but am unsure if it will work in win2k i am completely win2k here dont want to downgrade to 98 for broadband, anyone know anything? thanks in advance JabbaTheWocket

excellent thanks for info B-)

double check the user name on the 98 box trying to connect to the win2k box that seems to not be there and make sure you have given that (win98 box) an account on the win2k box with proper permissions to access what you trying to share.. also win98 is very flakey about reconnecting to machines that drop off and come back on the network (ie rebooting/enabling-disabling the connection) Hope this helps

Just a bit of information, setting hardrives to power down in win2k (at least with ntfs) is pointless as the hardrives never go inactive do to journaling, nothing wrong with hardware or software, it just never stops long enough for the system to activate it. Also this is why your hard drive light will flicker on ever couple of secs, mins whatever (in addition to background indexing server running, defrag or whatever other services you have running on your box) For what its worth I too run my systems 24x7 never turning any of them off and have never had a hard drive fail that wasn't killed by a spike/surge or power failure while writing etc. Jabbathewocket

Does any one know about "TIME" computers please
jabbathewocket replied to hitman1's topic in Hardware
tis true without at least knowing the manufacturer of the modem very little anyone can do to assist you is the modem detected at all in win2k? even as an unknown or disabled device? -
this has probably been explained and explained ALOT already but here goes, 9 out of 10 installs can be run manually after the "preparing installshield" gets to 99% and hangs kill that process, then goto \documents and settings\(current user)\local settings\temp and run the setup.exe that is sure to be there! trouble is that some versions of installshield dont know how to find the temp dir of win2k (under documents and settings\user home dir. hope this helps jabbathewocket

Sticky Key's in W2K Poll Survey!!! Please read!!!!
jabbathewocket replied to DarkWolf's topic in Games
hrrm got to this a bit late, but I have 0 sticky key problems with anything in win2k .. err now that i have said that will probably cause all sorts of havoc.. anyway My games: Unreal Tournament Q3 Arena Asherons Call (major video issues with 3.78 nvidia drivers cured by 3.81 WOOHOO) Need For Speed 4 Hardware ABit BH6 384 PC 100 sdram promise ultra 66 wd 20.4 maxtor 13.6 HP Cdwriter 8100i MS Natural Keyboard Pro (USB) detected as a standard keyboard but intellitype installed and all buttons function as expected) Logitech Trackman Marble FX (logitech 9.0 drivers) A random thought are the keys actually getting stuck? or is some background process consuming nearly 100% cpu time? i know it sounds silly but indexing service and some others can cause these types of "spikes" (dont ask me why background processes are thinking they should move into "idle mode" usage patterns .. unless its due to no desktop interaction for X amount of time?) sorry for the long ramble but my brother and I (identical setups) play unreal tourn and q3 here for hours at a time and never have any stickiness issues, but we generally kill most processes unrelated to gaming before we play! will try it without killin em and see how it goes again sorry for long post and spouting off about something I am probably totally wrong about! jabbathewocket [This message has been edited by jabbathewocket (edited 21 March 2000).] -
just for kicks have you tried disabling and renabling ultra66 support on the drive? (full power off reboot etc) i had a hell of a time getting a WD 20.4 to work right on promise ultra66 controller took about 3 tries before it worked right, finally had to put it as a single only drive on the controller and do it that way no problems since then with 2 maxtors and the WD!

Very clean and simple install but first you must have vistascan 3.51 (latest available from www.umax.com) install all the software, win2k will do its thing with the uds11 card, (not showing anything but an exlamation point) then connect it up and go should all work fine dont forget to reboot after installing the vistascan 3.51 hope this helps and please pardon my spelling!

Q: Anyone tried installing the newest (2.24.00) v1.040 drivers for 95/98 on win2k yet? or know of any beta win2k drivers for this card that are floating around ? thanks JabbaTHeWocket

Greetings all don't know how many (if any of you) this will help but it seems that this tape drive aiwa td 8000 reports itself as a TD8000 to win2k through plug & play thus making it unusable as win2k is looking for it as a ATD8000 ! simple fix though just remove the "A" in \winnt\inf\tape.inf from that line "%qic157.DeviceDesc% = qic157_Inst, IDE\SequentialAIWA_TD-A8000___________________________" should be changed to "%qic157.DeviceDesc% = qic157_Inst, IDE\SequentialAIWA_TD-8000___________________________"(or copy the line and remove the "a" from the duplicate) installs and works fine Hope this helps someone! Has anyone got drivers winy2k for HP 8100i Cd copier???
jabbathewocket replied to Spad's topic in Hardware
You don't need drivers for the 8100 itself, though you will need the latest aspi layer from adaptec to get it working in win2k, Installing EZCD 4 will install them or head over to adaptec's webpage for em! Jabbathewocket -
Actually it could be something totally unrelated (similar to the explorer bar/favorites menu delay) to mouse driver! If you have an over loaded or even just 1 context menu addin that is slow to load it will delay the appearance of the context menu! (think about a system loaded with programs openining the "New" context menu! anyway check and see if something has been added to your right click menu it may be the culprit!

bah drivers from creative hah, try to get tnt drivers from STB, or Diamond B-)

heres the deal folks, if you use AOL (and you know who you are! AOL just posted a new beta of the AOL 5 software that supports both dialup under nt/2k and the web browser (which hadnt been working since 5.0 came out for most people 98 or 2k) is now working! 11 meg download 1. goto keyword beta on AOL 2. signup and wait a bit for them to welcome you to the beta program! 3. download the file for AOL 5.0 NT no browser (it is set to use system browser rather than the internal IE 4) filename is D16000NTG.EXE 4. enjoy having parent/sibling/spouse etc off your back! This has been a public service announcement from the S.O.H.A.AOLP.S. ------------------ Think and search the forums before you post...All will appreciate it!
