Ok so I have a friend who just built a PC centered around this mainboard.. Full stats are as follows: Asus A7V333 (non-raid) AthlonXP 2200+ (no overclock) 1 Gigabyte corsair DDR3200 Dynatron Heatsink Fan Sony DVD 16x On primary IDE channel (On board) 2x Maxtor 60GB ATA 133 7200RPM units on a promise fastrack TX2000 Raid card SoundBlaster Audigy X-Gamer Visiontek Extasy TI4600 3com 3c905C net card MS Natural Keyboard Pro on USB only MS intellimouse explorer on USB only Windows XP home Install went smooth as silk Lockups are completely random and ONLY affect input from mouse/keyboard not the entire system.. sometimes only mouse (most frequently) sometimes only keyboard sometimes both.. All windows updates installed/not installed seems to make no difference USB 2.0 drivers /latest bios/Via 4-in-1s installed or not in various combos nothing seems to affect the problem. Have tried system both with and without the net card, and without sound card and problem seems to persist. Am pulling hair out here any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Oi A7V333 and strange mouse/keyboard lockups
jabbathewocket replied to jabbathewocket's topic in Hardware
Apparently it was an issue of having too much stuff enabled on board. Long and short of it.. Disabling the ps2 mouse/keyboard irqs and switching from APIC to PIC fixed the problem? Not sure why/how he managed to be on APIC setting but that did the trick.. thanks for suggestions people -
Oi A7V333 and strange mouse/keyboard lockups
jabbathewocket replied to jabbathewocket's topic in Hardware
hrrm will try that.. its hard though as the guy I am trying to troubleshoot for lives in North Dakota and I am in florida! I recall having similar issues myself under the early win2k betas.. but that was traced back to incompatible mouse drivers and it was a permanent afffliction that required switching from logitech mouse /ms natural keyboard pro to both mouse and keyboard being MS products. Its the strangest problem i Have ever heard about heh.. -

jabbathewocket replied to jabbathewocket's topic in Hardware
its 2 sticks.. but we have tested with each individually and its got same issue. Remember its not bluescreening..just mouse and or keyboard "stop responding" Thanks for hints though If anything else springs to mind holler! -
Discussion an 2416. Anyone tried it yet.
jabbathewocket replied to dodgeviperrt10's topic in Hardware
well it fixed some issues with the button styles for me .. was getting lots of overdraw in menu areas with 2410, 2416 seems to have that licked on my tnt2 system Other than that, a bit of refinements here and there.. and more updates to the setup program still playing with it will keep posted of any earthshattering differences -
Ok folks I know this is gonna be hard.. but I have flip flopped from amd to intel back and forth over the years trying to get best bang for least bucks Which do you all recommend for a new system which needs to meet 2 criteria first criteria is 100% reliability in windows 2000 second is forward looking design (I tend to build systems and keep them kicking for ages) thanks in advance for any help you all can offer!

simple to get, log on to aol goto keyword beta you will get a short question form.. fill it out (do this on a win2k machine) and in 24-36 hours you will be "let in" to beta testing from then on checking keyword beta lets you download all the betas that run on the os that that aol client is connecting through (aol6 for win2k can only be download from a win2k machine etc) hope this helps any questions send a private message and i will try to help

happens all the time here, some programs dont like to release files within the folder properly (acdc is notorious for this) also check to make sure that the program you where last "looking" at the folder with is actually shut down and not in some half-dead stats acdc is also very good at pretending to be dead but keeping files "open" hope that helps
-
actually you may try running the win2k drivers just for kicks B=)

sounds like a corrupted ASPI installation.. which usually means that EZ-CD 4 is installed and messed up in some way.. try removing and reinstalling it hope this helps

no changing the temp directory will not do it, what he wants to do is make the whole entrire documents and settings directory move to a seperate physical drive/partition you know like *nix style has / /boot /etc /usr /home and any of them can be on any partition as long as they exist? should be an option at install maybe to tell it where to go i dont know about after install most of us would be happy with it if you could choose the location then.. however if you are talking about a new installation with just and administrator account.. you can just assign a different "home" directory to each user as you create it.. cannot remember the exact tab off the top of my head but it can be done.. and it does move ALL of a users profile to that directory my docs, the local setttings , temp folder etc hope this helped somewhat!

I dont understand.. umm you think the unstable flakey win9x core of winMe will handle that combo better than win2k? heh athlon+nvidia on win2k may not be perfect but its still a better combo than WinMe as soon as you install non "on the cd" drivers for the geforce your fun with winMe will be over . been there done that suggest you fight it out with win2k! ' as always this is just my 2cents hope it helped if not sorry

sounds more like a filesystem error to me.. have you checked your event log recently? when my 30 gig bought the big hard drive in the sky.. the event log leading up to it was littered with HD warning and errors just a thought
-
hehe now that is strange isnt it? i had pulled my pc speaker long time ago perhaps why i never suffered the crackling in first place?
-
well the obvious solution would be to not use netscape, IE works and is in your system already, and opera is head and shoulders above any version of netscape.. the last non-flakey version of netscape in my opinion was 3.02 but thats just me as to memory leak in netscape sounds like a problem I have no idea sorry

ok heres the situation, yesterday i fired up ez-cd 4 and made a few music cd's (5) to be exact, no trouble no problems nothing all was right with the world. about 4 hours later no reboot no changes played a few hours of asherons call is all i did. getting odd errors out of every cd burning app i have. invalid que sheet from cdrwin, unable to set recording speed out of all of them, and so forth. I have an HP 8100 internal IDE on secondary master channel never had a problem before anyone have any ideas? checked the cables, rebooted reinstalled several of the programs. (not ezcd4 yet) thanks in advance jabbathewocket

Thanks for all the feedback people, it seems unstalling EZCD4. and reinstalling did the trick all seems to work now
-
well as an update. I UNinstalled EZ cd 4, and all the other apps work, may or may not reinstall ezcd but i think it was like the last poster said, something corrupted in windows registry

Intel making the first move towards floppy boot problem.
jabbathewocket replied to Damien's topic in Hardware
intel has for some time had self extracting boot disk image for there bioses, hell they even have a setup where you can boot up a dead MB from a floppy, whats interesting about this is that with a bootable cd, you may not need the floppy at all anymore.. are we headed to iMac land in the PC world now... one has to wonder what is next... I have long wondered why none of the MB makers licenced freedos or something similar and stuck it on a rom on the MB, for emergency boots oh well guess we will see what the future brings ehh? -
tylau what the hell is that link in your message for? your goofy bookmarks? who cares what you bookmark either link to the drivers or dont link at all
-
3dfx asked for there removal so they where removed , buy a gforce you would be much happier
