I suspected this was shell related, but is there a tool or something I can get to check/repair this? How is the best way to approach it?

Really missing the ability to open any folder with right-click or double click from Start Menu. Nothing happens at all. Now have to open Windows Explorer and locate folder to view its contents. Anyone know a fix for this? Google is all out of answer.

Hiyas, I'm not getting this exact same error between to XP SP1 machines. Has anyone ever found a work around to this problem?

I have a windows 2003 server setup which runs NAT and ISA 2000 as web proxy. Whenever I try to copy files across to the 2003 Server machine it will start and then freeze for a while. Often it will come up with a warning that the network path was not found. But sometimes it will kick itself in the pants and keep going The strange thing is, that all other traffic unrelated to windows network works perectly. I usually just keep re-trying the files untill they all work. What I have tried: * Removing QOS * Removing Load Balancing * Setting the server to be a file server * Unbinding Client for MS network and file/print sharing from all other cards * Setting the internal card to higher priority than all other cards * Setting Windows networking as the highest priority service in the provider order *Tried other NICS *Ruled out possible cabling/switch issues Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA

I've got a pal who's XP pro system was, for a short time, part of a domain. It is no longer connected to this domain, and is now just part of a workgroup. Since the system was connected to the domain, the login screen with all the pretty icons has dissapeared. The user logo image is also missing from the start menu. Does anyone know how I can get these back? TIA

I've also added an extra download link to try and help anyone else who comes across the prob as I did. You can also find the file here. It won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

Hiya all, I've just had to do a fresh install of XP. I went off to my online banking website, it asked me to install Virtual Machine, so I said OK, no probs. Next thing I know, I'm sitting on MS's site with a message saying MS no longer provide VM support for XP!!! I installed the latest Java from the Sun website, but that makes no diff at all. Any suggestions please?

Have you set gateway and Primary DNS server to the IP of the machine running ICS?

Hiya On of one my machines, the connection properties for my LAN shows activity in Bytes (Netgear NIC), while on another machine, it shows activity in packets (Intel NIC). Is there any way to change this on either of them? I'd honestly prefer to see bytes rather than packets. TIA

All the card have already been removed. This won't help

G'day all. I did some slot swapping and now have devices showing such as this: Realtek RTL8029(AS) PCI Ethernet Adapter #2 How do I find and remove #1? I also have some devices removed that I want to remove properly. In the case of the nic, I get errors when assigning IPs saying that another nic already ahs that IP address. I have tried show all in device manager and safe mode but I cannot see the hidden devices. TIA Ekstreme
