A quick search and I foudn it. it;s called NVCleaner and you can get to it via here Hope this helps

There is a small app that cleans out all nvidia registry entries and files to allow you to start over. I'm not sure what it is called, but if no one has replied with the name or a link by the time I get home, I'll see if I can dig up my copy.

If you're going to be using firewire on NT4, you should perhaps think about enabling DMA mode if you use IDE hard drives
-
Well, I tried it under NT4 and I must say, things feel a bit snappier, but I really have no hard proof. Outlook seems to load a bit quicker, but everything else, just seems to feel a lil different. This could be my imagination though

Has anyone tried this on NT4? NTDiagnostics doesn't actually show IRQ8 so I'm not sure if my System CMOS/real time clock is actually on that particular IRQ, but I guess it could be. Thanks

Have you done all the obvious things first, like reinstalling service packs?? I used to get the first error all the time. For me, it was ICQ trying to close and start the netdetect app when I hit shutdown. I could be something as simple as this. Need a lil more info before I can help more than that

Try Miranda ICQ. It still has a few bugs, but is tiny and much faster! MirandaICQ

Well, I've done a bit of messing around with this problem, and it seems to be related to MS IntelliPoint software. As soon as it's removed, things work perfectly. No matter what version I install, it does the same

Please see Ekstreme's post regarding NT4 Start menu delays here. EDITED BY clutch

Get TweakUI and use the Logon tab. works perfectly every time

I just use Outlook Express and have created message rules to save emails into a folder corresponding to a particular account. Wasn't difficult to do at all Eks

I'm having a **** of a time playing this game. The mouse is extremely slow on some of the config screens. I could live with this, but it also does it in-game, making it unplayable. I have a MS IntelliMouse Explorer. Tried both USB and PS2 connectors, but they yield the same result. Has anyone experienced/fixed this? Thanks

Joisus, that was easy!! thanks Homer. First time Compat mode has proved fruitful for me. Thanks again!

If you have a spare 486 or above lying around, you could try smoothwall. Turns an obsolete machine into a damn good firewall. Will share just about any connection type available. I use it for sharing my 56k modem and have no complaints at all. Turned a P166 from the shed into a security demon from hell! check out www.SmoothWall.org. Any queries message me.

I have the same notebook, running XP final, What did you guys do in regards to the software/drivers seeing sony use a really shitty method of distributing software on their CD's? I tried using the win2k drivers on their site, but most of the installs just hang while inspecting my system. Secondly, my machine will not reboot. Any experience with this?

I have an ASUS P2B-F. After my first install, I was getting shutdown problems etc etc, because XP only recognised my machine as a Standard Computer. Did a reinstall, hit F5 and changed it to ACPI PC and now all is good. No issues to report here.

If you've got an old box lying around, give smoothwall a go. It'll share your net conenction PLUS it's damn good firewall too. USB DLS won't be supported for a few days yet, but check it out anyways. SmoothWall

I've suddenly had problems with Windows update since installing SP2. The updates download fine, but just will not install. No error is given, it just says that the updates were not installed. A search on MS site has yielded squat. I've gone back to SP1 and everything seems find. Just curious to see if anyone has had such a problem, or has heard of anything regarding this?

Have you tried any of the version 5 series? Give them ago and see if it makes any difference. It probably won't but give it a go anyhows. Nero is the only burning app that works for me under 2k, so I'm quite perplexed to hear that it doesn't work for you. Make sure you check how much mem is being allocated while burning (under preferences) Good luck
-
I had the same probs a little while back. It seems to be fixed with the latest quicktime 5 update, which I think is 5.0.2. Don't take this as gospel, but my QT5 updated to this version and everything is good now.

Kill PnP in the BIOS and see if that makes any difference. 2k ignores it most times anyhow

I can't get around to my mates house, so bear with me, this is coming off the top of my head.... Okies, first step is to open up each IRC client on your network and goto the DCC options. Set a reasonable port range for the DCC to be sent. I have 5 ports for each machine starting from 5550 and going upwards. so your first and last ports would be 5550 & 5554. Next you configure ICS to allow these ports.... Go to the sharing tab for you connection and I think you need to select advanced of somehting, but you'll need to find it, cause I can't really remember. Then you need to find where you can add services. 'I think' From memory, there are 2 options, but you're after services. Then this is just a simple matter of going through and adding each port that you have allocated in the IRC client... Give the service a name eg. DCC port number, eg. 5550 and name - This is the netbios name (or computer name as some know it) of the machine you want to use this port. Each machine must have it's own port range set and be configured to use it. Make sure you select TCP NOT UDP also Once you have added all the ports required and the names of the corresponding machines, you should be good to go. It will warn you to re-dial the connection for changes to take effect, but I don't think you have to. If it doesn't work, just redial adn try again. Hope this isn't too confusing, if anyone has any questions, email or ICQ me and I'll see what I can do to help ya out
-
miku I'll get back to you later on it, I don;t have ICS isntalled any mroe so I'll ahve to go check out a mates setup
-
I'm not 100% sure here, but I think you go to the shared connection properties, and then add 'I think' under services. Add the ports and the machine name you want to allow to use this service. Couldn't tell you what ports you'll need though, you'll have to find that out elsewhere. I had to do this to allow IRC DCC working on outgoing.
