As far as I was aware, ICS is only native in Win98SE and above. I used to use SyGate for sharing on NT4 and it worked like a charm. You only have to isntall it on the host machine and then you're off and running in no time at all. You can get a 30 day trial version (not sure how many users though) from SyGate Let us know if you need any help, it's pretty easy though

If you have an old box lying around, give SmoothWall a go. Runs on 'I think' a 486 or above and is dead easy to use and install. It is a distro on Linux, but don't let that throw you off, it's actually quite good. Totally controlled through a browser on any of the clients machines in the network. I've only been using it for a few weeks, but haven't had any probs as yet. But like I said, you need another box to run it off, so might not be very convenient for you. SmoothWall

Either enable the guest account or create a user for the 98 machine to login as. Should fix you right up

Do you have any sort of firewall apps running?

Ignore this post. Darn bulletin board messed me up

Change the MP version in your BIOS

How many windows 'effects' do you have turned on? they are a waste of resources, so turn them off and see if that fixes any of your problems. It often pays to start with the simple things first.

You really should try the search feature of this forum! It's perfectly normal, look it up.

I've never been able to get Xwing v Te working under 2k, but you could try the compatability mode with SP2 or even the prog that came with the resource kit. Good luck, let us know if you can get it to work

Does win2k have any sort of partition limits like NT4 did?

HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon set or create a DWORD value of SFCDisable and set it to ffffff9d Then you can go and nuke all the DLLcache files and SP files. BUT you might need the SP1 SFC.fll like DosFreak said for it to work again. I haven't tested it yet, I need to get hold of that DLL first

SHIIIIT!@ Seems I've made a liar out of myself! I thought all was good because I had deleted all the cahced files and wasn't receiving any errors. BUT I just patched my explorer.exe with the 256 color update and I got the friggen warning message! Sorry if I misled anyone
-
I know this is only a minor cosmetic thing, but does anyone know if an updated explorer.exe has been released to enable 256 color system tray icons with SP2?

Thanks guys. I was unaware that anyone had even replied to this post, it seems that the email notification is broke

Grab a flashlight open the case adn go for a search. My revision number on my P2B-F is printed on the edge up near the keyboard connector or down on the bottom edge near the model name (which is HUGE) Sorry for being unsure, but i'm @ college right now, so i'm picking my brains. Good luck

I have disabled my WFP with SP 2 without any problems. Just followed the same format as for the original tweak. My system was completely wiped and the Sp2 installed soon after, this, although highly unlikely, could be a contributing factor to why I was sucessful

Make the changes under the account(s) that you want personalised. As for desktop settings etc with the Admin, if you do it under this account or Family, it 'should' automatically be seperated for each account.

Windows File Protection Win2000 SP2
Ekstreme replied to mrandazzo's topic in Customization & Tweaking
I'm using SP2 form a clean install, and I have no probs with disabling WFP. -
Being and Admin and using the Admin account are two different things, since they are seperate users.
-
you'll have to obviously logon as Admin to change those shortcuts.... You can stop the Auto logon by using TweakUI or goto system properties and click the Network ID tab and follow the prompts. It's best if when you setup 2k, you tell windows that the Admin should be the generic user (if you're the only user) and then rename the Admin account if you wish to do so. It;s easiest this way and saves hastles wiht different user profiles like you have. You CAN still change over and use the Admin account from now onwards, but many things will have to be re-setup for that account.

DiVX often has very low sound levels, so if you're using a shitty speaker setup (I have no idea if you do or not) you need to crank it up HEAPS! which could explain your shitty sound quality probs. I run my sound through my SB live and an amp, so volume & quality aren't an issue for me. If the movies you are watching are propper group releases, you generally don't have any problems, other than the sound levels. I could be totally off the mark, but give it a think about.

This happens to me every now and then, but not often enough to worry about. It only seems to happen when I've been saving heaps of files, and is resolved by closing all IE windows in that process and restarting it

BlackIce Defender is broken under SP2!!! (Deja Vu)
Ekstreme replied to evil Homer's topic in Software
As far as I can tell by the forums on the Network Ice site, they don't consider SP2 officially out yet, so we could be in for a little waiting game. -
Hiya all. I've just done a 2k setup for a mate, who has an Epox KP6-BS 1 meg board. After a little bit fo work, it seems to be working fine now, except, I can't get any APM features to work. Sometimes I can't even get the machine to shut down. Holding the power button in often does nothing. I have the latest bios upgrade that I can find, but it's from 1999!! If anyone has a sollution to this, I'd be very greatfuly to hear of it.

Come one peeps, surely someone out there has this board and has had the same probs, or even better, has no probs at all!
