I got (after asking a question on this board) the advice to run NTFS on my systempartition (ie C and to run FAT32 on my other partitions, where I have my apps and games, and I must say it seems to be working great. Of course I cant say I have seen any specific "+" och "-" in doing so.. but i feels nice my 2 cents... Turbo Grunkamoj

Hello, a friend of mine has just recently bought the following: Abit BP6 motherboard 2 x 533Mhz Celeron 128 Mb ram pc100 1 x Ultra 66, 20GB IBM Harddrive. He has a problem: The cpu-usage meter is always on 50%, even after a clean installation, without any special drivers, no programs, games or utilities. Sometimes it gets free, for example, he installed Q3A, and ran a timedemo there. At first it was like glue, clearly something was eating up alot of cpu-power, then all of a sudden it cleared and ran fin for a while, but not for long. Anyone know anything about this? Anyone who has had the same problem? Or knows how to resolve it? plz help if you can. btw: He is using the QQ-bios not the final since with that his computer wount even boot, but the "evaluation-release" is working so far, this problem has "all of a sudden" appeared, it was working flawless before...

Sure if you want to discuss known facts thats okay, but anyone who has any ideas regarding the acctuall problem? -
Okidokey...nice for you.

Why would you need those drivers? What extras do they add? I have a MS Natural Keyboard pro, and I have been using the software that came with it, and everything has been working 100%.

I had my hopes up last year when the intellimouse explorer was just released, but then I took it home and tested it. It did not match up. It didnt follow my movements, quake:ing was impossible. Worst mouse I have ever used acctually.
-
Same here acctually, only I dont use a Intellimouse explorer cause I think they suck, tried one and it did NOT match my requirements. I use a Logitech Wheelmouse (the ultimate mouse if you ask me and I plug it into my MS Natural Keyboard Pro via USB, and I think its smooth like a baby's butt. And Im a quaker to acctually so I know how important smooth mouse-movement is, with that pointed out, I must say: USB is smoooooth. But of course every man is different (and women they say) so if you feel that USB isn't enough for 'ya then it probably isn't. /Turbo Grunkamoj

Well as far as I know, you cant change the rate of the usb. If you want higher then I guess ps2 is the way to go...

I'd say your problem was probably related to the Nvidia drivers. Did you try reverting to win2k drivers or older Nvidias before reinstalling? Think that would've fixed the problem. I had a similar problem also driver related. Btw, MS knowledgebase on their website contains numerous incidents of this kind, often with a solution aswell. Try there next time and maybe you wont have to reinstall. Regards.

USB rate: 125hz This should be smooth enough...
-
In this case I would like to say: Don't blame win2k, this is entirely because of the drivers from 3dfx. They suck. Thats it and thats that. As an example, my framerate in Q3 dropped about 20fps when changing to win2k. P2-400, 128Mb, V3-3000,

Turbo Grunkamoj replied to Turbo Grunkamoj's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Well I went ahead and did my reinstall, mainly cause my C:-partition was to small before...so I put ntfs on that, and I dont know if I can make any decrease or increase but why the hell not On the down-side, I make q3-maps on the side and during the reinstall I "forgot" my map-file so that is screwed... But hey, **** HAPPENS...so get used to it, and since I cant blame anyone else but me and my stupidity, thats all there is to it. /Turbo Grunkamoj -

Well of course I made a mistake: first posting the question, then remebering that "search-thingy" Sorry guys...found a few tips, though some say ntfs is faster, and some say the opposite. /Turbo Grunkamoj -
Got a question regarding the paging file in win2k. Under performance options you can set the initial and the maximum size of it. I have set mine to the following: Initial size: 192mb Maximum size: 384mb I also have 128mb ram. If I check TaskManager, under performance, I can here see "Commit Charge (K)" this sais that my "Limit" is: 311mb (my ram + pagefile - 9mb). Now my question, shouldnt the "limit" be higher, at least my ram + pagefile? And another thing, what does the "maximum size"-pagefile setting do?

Since this topic never seems to die, Id better join the gang: I have the retail version of Windows 2000Pro, I bought a Student-license, which costs about 1/9 of normal price. /Turbo Grunkamoj --------------------------------------------- You could do it that way, but it's not right! ---------------------------------------------

I use Iconpackager, without any problems in win2k...., so why shouldnt you? What is it that doesnt do it for you?
-
Hey, mangan. So you got it to work? Running fine in r_smp 1 now is it?
-
I have the same problem, even after the qq bios and a new installation.
-
Hey. Since these drivers seems to be the only ones working if you wanna use r_smp 1 in Quake3...I'd like to know where I can find 'em? I cant get them on nvidia:s site...
