Win2k, 2 3D cards, i need an app to choose which D3d to use
Tim Bazzinett replied to Winger300's topic in Games
have you ever heard of 3d control center. I dont know if it works for win2k, but you can find it at www.3dfiles.com. It allows you to select which card will be used for direct3d. -
You need to create a user on the win2k system that is the same as the user that the schools computer uses when the see the "enter network password" box after boot up. The password that is used when creating the user is the same as the box that pops up when trying to access the shared directory.

Well, every time a new driver comes out, I try to install them and always get the message that the driver were not specifically written for my piece of hardware. I when I continue to install them, after rebooting, the screen goes to the vga mode/16 color with the device manager saying that the drivers were bad. The only driver that I have been able to successfully load is the 3.53 drivers. I am using a CL TNT on build 2128 RC2. Any ideas?

try NT 4.0 drivers. Just a guess...

did you try the NT4.0 drivers? [This message has been edited by Tim Bazzinett (edited 07 January 2000).]

You need to create a user on the win2k machine that matches the name of the user that your wife logs in with when she sees the "enter network password" box that comes up when she boots up. Go to start/programs/computer management or control panel/administrative tools/computer management. There you should see a thing called users and passwords. Go there and in the actions menu, select new user and input the users name that your wife uses and the password you wish to use. Click add and then close. The go back to the win98 machine and try again using the password that you used when creating the user on the win2k machine.

Here is a way I had to do it when my Win95 crashed after a motherboard bios update was installed. I was dual booting win2000 with win95. This way is somewhat not the best way but it does work providing you have it installed on a FAT/FAT32 partition. Boot off a windows start up disk and ensure that that the floppy has the deltree command on it. Start by removing all attributes from the WINNT directory with the "attrib *.* -h-r-s-a /s" command. Then delete the directory using the deltree command. Then do the same process to the user settings directory. Then delete the pagefile.sys file. Then fdisk/mbr the active partition. Then sys the same partition. When you boot up again you should get to a c:> prompt and from there, install a windows based OS. In my case I reinstalled Win95 on a freshly formatted partition and I will be re-installing Win2000 onto the other partition once I have a little time. Peaje, Win2k is for the consumer. Why, stability!! I work at a bank where the majority of the workers there own personal PC's. Most of them use the computer not for games, but for speadsheets, email, and internet. Stabilty is the reason why they should get win2k. Everyday, I troubleshoot the win9x based machines due to the bad kernel they are based on. But rarely the windows NT machines. Face it, the only good thing about the win9x kernel is the price and the ability to run games well. But if I typing a lengthy report that due on the bosses desk soon, I'll do it on my win2k machine. I dont need a win 95 crash to happen. When I go online, like what I am doing right now, the TCP/IP stack on the win2k is much better than win 95 even after the msdun1.3 upgrade. Yes, there needs to be better drivers made, but that will come in time. It will soon when the D3d will be a dead API,now that GLIDE is now open source. And glide runs great on my Voodoo2 with win2k.

With a CL TNT, the 3.53 drivers and build 2128, the d3d image quality is notably missing some features. Running the 3dmark 2000, there is a lack of shadows, and the colors are not what they should be. This is also experienced in Unreal using direct3d. The frame rate is good but the lighting is bad. I am assuming that a good driver exists out there that takes care of these issues. I noticed on the seltzar.dhs.org that there are three drivers for the tnt listed. Which one to choose? I am currently using the 3.53 drivers. By the sound of everyone else on the board, they are not having similar problems.

Eskreme, the file you are refering to is the nvoglnt.dll file which is the opengl driver. My problem lies with the direct3d drivers, which I think must be in the directx7 setup on my computer. My Opengl games run without any errors, only my direct3d games are experiencing the defects. If any one knows a fix, please respond.

Here is what I did to get the internet sharing going on my two PC's. I downloaded Proxy+ freeware and loaded it on the computer that is connected to the net. Then the other computer had Iexplorer set to use the proxy connection of 198.168.0.1:4480 With the proxy service running, I would have the other PC go into proxy admin (http://192.168.0.1:4480) and setup the connection. Then they were able to both use the connection. Both pc's had no DNS or gateway entries. The whole time internet sharing box is unchecked (unshared). I have build 2128, the dx7 patch, the 3.53 detonator drivers, and a TNT card. I can run UT and unreal using the voodoo card and Opengl quakes great with the TNT. But when it comes to D3d, Nothing goes. I can run Unreal D3d, but it runs at 2 fps or so. DXdiag reports some of the d3d and directdraw files are old versions after I ran the DX7 update. On the display tab for dxdiag, the D3d acceleration is grayed out. I installed the drivers using the .inf file and should there be a Riva tab in display properties like I would see in WIN95? When I installed the dx7 patch, I had to answer "yes" to a few questions, then I would cancel when the Dx7 setup would ask me to insert the win2k CD with some message about files were not the correct. Was I to use the detonator drivers for NT or win9x? Any suggestions please! [This message has been edited by Tim Bazzinett (edited 05 November 1999).]

I would suggest a voodoo3 if EQ supports Glide. I've been having trouble running D3D on anything, but glide runs great on my voodoo2 card.

Thats NOT true, you can't play games in W2k at all

So most of you are saying you could not get D3d to run? I've been trying to get D3d to run on a Riva tnt, but I could only get glide in my voodoo2 card and opengl on the riva.
