My entry for the first newbie post: "I have a TNT and nothing works!!!! Win 2k is the biggest pile of S^&T! Microsoft SUCKS!Why did I spend all this money? I'm going to buy Linux now, I hear it's easier to use!"

Hey cyb, you're running dns on a dialup?
-
Man, that sounds like it sucks, i'm configuring my server tomorrow, i'll post what i find...

overclock my celery to 550mhz in 2000, and it fires up and i can quake till my heart's content....TRY to boot up '98, NO WAY...go figure... Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Using the opengl from the 3.64 set produced a periodic blank white screen while in game, I had to switch to the opengl from the 3.56 set. Just in case anyone else has this prob.

First of all, IIS 5's ftp in win2k rocks, it's very cool. Back to the old Firewall issue, I'm currently using syshield and it's very cool, the only problem is, If I open up port 21 on the firewall, my ftp server still won't list contents....hmmmm it only works when I shut the wall down, more investigation is needed.....

Saw these posted, haven't tried them. IS SOMEONE BRAAAVE ENOUGH? http://www.3dchipset.com/beta/drivers.asp

Hmmm, I have no idea why UT works on mine, I installed 2128, and then installed the 3.56 drivers, without the directx files available on chameleon's site... Then upgraded to RC3....UT came out, and voila, it ran perfectly.... still haven't tried the new ones...I don't want to upset the apple cart, Q3 and UT both scream....
-
UT ROCKS with the 3.56 drivers...(on chameleon's site) Q3A is sill the biz though.... [This message has been edited by M (edited 30 November 1999).]

OK, here we go... I have the exact same burner, and before I tried anything else...I installed the updates recommended at this adaptec site for their product ezcd creator 3.5... http://webcheckup.adaptec.com/ecdc-win2k/ I don't know if my burner worked prior to this, but I can run CDRwin perfectly, so it can't be that bad. Adaptec supplies a file that you run BEFORE you install their software, I don't know what it does....could it be their aspi driver? Don't know, but it works. Check it out. It doesn't work, you get some kind of weird error about the filter not being able to start, and if you look at their forums, it seems like they're overwhelmed at the moment. People don't like it when they can't get support... Syshield works nicely, but I find it messes up the built in ICS, anyone have any suggestions? When you run the firewall, the other computers on my network can't get to the net.

I posted it cause his page was down, figured it would be better than, "Uncle bill gets Chameleon!". And who gave you an Anal probe Seldzar? Have some fun! [This message has been edited by M (edited 29 November 1999).]

Who DA MAN?!
-
Muhahahhahaaaa (Need good tnt drivers.....) then 98 is banished forever...
-
Well, it's actually a 366 guys... do that with a 300? is that possible with the clock multiplier? win2k is rock steady, it won't crash, even at 1.95 volts. 98 needs 2.1 volts, then quaking is fine... Also, the processor being clocked at 550 seems to have made clocking my tnt2 more difficult...98's just plain unstable. Can't wait till all the 2000 drivers are ready for prime time!
-
Well it doesn't run fine... Performance, visuals, and stability increase tenfold in 98 when using a TNT, etc. Until the drivers are up to snuff, I suggest you dualboot to play any unreal engine game.

So, can anyone tell me how to find out if dma is enabled on my drives...and if it isn't, how to do it? I've got info on NT, and wonder if it applies directly to 2000. cheers

DUH! (feels stupid) Thanks for the pointer guys...
