Found the fix at betaos.com this morning. My problem is that I cannot decipher the test file explaining the steps. I am no dummy (at least I don't think so) but I honestly cannot figure out what he is saying here: Anyone wishing to translate please respond. Thanks.
you'll need:
liveware3 distribution for win nt 4.0, or the liveware3 cd.
machine running win2k rc2 2151
Must have WinZip7 any Windows type zip programs
now let get started highlite lw3lib1.exe rigth
click & drag to the root of c:\ or d:\ do the same with lw3lib2.exe,
lw3lib3.exe, lw3nt.exe it make fold called audio
part 1 - getting the Liveware3 install
1. copy run.cmd I made in to AUDIO\ENGLISH\NT4DRV folder CD owener copy
the folder NT4DRV to your harddrive reboot in to safe mode.
2. start run.cmd YES reboot
3. rigth on My Computer go to properties then hardware click on device
manager expand the 'sound, video and game controllers' DBL click on
"Creative SB Live! (WDM)" go to drivers click on update drivers next
check "Display a list of known drivers" next have disk "browse"
":\AUDIO\ENGLISH\NT4DRV\OEMSETUP.INF" next higtlite "creative sb live!"
next "yes to rest" ok you will have to reboot
4. open the 'sounds and multimedia' control panel applet. go to the
hardware tab, and double click on 'creative sblive!' in the box that
opens, go to the properties tab, expand the audio devices item, and
double click the creative sb live! item. check the 'do not map through
this device' box & reboot.
5 go to :\AUDIO\ENGLISH\SETUP\ rename setup.ex_ to setup.exe then run it
CD owener just run setup.exe YES reboot
6. now, here's the odd part. for some reason, the setup program
installs a NEWER version of emu10k1.sys than the one you installed back
in steps 3 (you might have noticed that the sound worked after
installing the driver, but stopped working after installing lw3)
agine you need update the driver redo steps 3
NOTE:yes to overwirte the driver & reboot
7 go to the Control Panel | Soundand Multimedia DBL click on it
then the Tab Audio made sure see Wave OUT & IN if not use the down arrow
in the both Playback & Recording Preferred device box to turn it on.
