    What is efes.exe

I would recommend removing it from the startup group...especially if you dont know what it is. It is probably something that takes up resources at a minimum. I doubt if it is a virus/trojan because they usually hide themselves a little better...but you should run a scan just to be sure.
  2. What was supposed to be difrferent about them? I heard they were going to remove the 3dmarkxx hacks that falsely elevated the score (kind of like the stuff nvidia did)...anything else?

Lets not trade insults. All I did was offer good advice. Don't overlook it.

    Max Payne & Renegade

Max payne and Renegade are great and run smooth on my dualee Intel/P3-733/GF3. Even with details up/1024. I do not use EAX ( like A3D better, the Santa Cruz I have is great ). Renegade does have a map caching delay problem. They need to allow us to configure the amount of caching in the engine.

    Rengade

I thought the game rocked ( finished it two weeks ago ). The only performance issue it has is in caching the entire map, it needs to have setting to allow the amount of caching to be varied, so that 'wait for the map to cache' delay problem would go away. I think the engine is good...just needs to be more configurable.

right....like what are you going to do a screenshot of? Means nothing to me. What I was referring to is internet applications that load without your knowledge or consent simply by virtue of you visiting a website of less than honorable origin. These kinds of things are famous for running apps in secret that connect to web resources on startup...yes for any hackers purpose, and can wreak havoc on active desktop. If you can't understand that...you might want to consider turning off active scripting for internet zone on your next installation ( since the current one your on is hosed already ). Loser....look in any mirrors lately?

    battle of the computers

    Does a dual 2.2GHs Prestonia with 1G PC800 count? Only 6 18G Cheetah's RAID5w/128MB cache controller? With a GF4?

    Wierd grey screen problem

I never had anything like that happen...and I build out XP machines all the time. Sounds like you guys need to stop hanging out at the resident hack/***** establishments.
  9. The biggest offender in the above settings is the "disablePagingExecutive" setting. Quote: Never experienced that, maybe it's your comp(not every comp responds equaly to same settings) and that would suggest that something is wrong with your instalation of os(maybe instaled progies....)or hardware, posibilities are endless. Also u need to have alot of memory to do this. I have a dual processor and 768 MB of memory. Makes the same differences at work on my single 733 MHx with 256 M ram. It matters not if it is W2K or WXP, as I really have tested the settings with both. I have also tested these settings on other PC's with varying amounts of memory, from single cpu's to dual and even quad cpu's with up to and including 2 gig's of memory. You may not notice it if you have a 1+ GHz machine, but it's still there. ( In fact, I tried it on a 2 GHz machine and couldn't tell a difference in response...but that's more due to the fact it's just a fast machine in general, but that still does not convince me it did not make a negative difference. ) I think this is one setting people everywhere are confused about.
  10. If you make those above registry changes, the PC will not respond properly, it will be very "jerky" in multitasking. Face it, NT is designed to be a paging OS, with or without the application pagefile.
  11. So, has anyone else here done the simple check to disable page file use? I did, seem fine with my 768 MB memory. NOTE: This does not stop all paging, since the OS pages it's system files to where ever they are located in ( system folders ). It will stop paging application files.

    CD Burning Software for WinXP

Some changes have come about!!! I used to use EZ CD 4 in my W2k, woirked in the upgrade to XP RC2 flawlessly. When I put in XP ( retail ) I had to go to Nero because I could not get EZ CD4 to work for more than a week after installing it. EZ CD5 never worked on my computer no matter what OS was installed, and the same held true for XP. I ended up with Nero, works good. NOW, MS has released a compatibility patch that fixes Easy CD Creator 4 in Windows XP!!! That's right...good old trusty ADAPTEC Easy CD Creator 4 works in XP now. Here is the patch description: http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/RTF/en/5100.htm Go here for more: XP redistribution downloadable update page

Unable to View SSL or HTTPS w/IE6

I just checked my XP machine...It seems I jumped the gun, because it's not there. XP seems to call it rsaenh.dll, so type in "regsvr32 rsaenh.dll"
