My harddrive is clicking, I have a 75% back up but there is stuff I need off it. What can I do? It is a Maxtor 40 GB drive. Anyone have any suggestions.

I froze it for 12 hrs and turned it upside down. There were times that the clicking stopped but the system never recognized the drive. I am outta options now. Thanks for all the help. Michael P.s. I found most of what I wanted fromt that drive backed up on my other system.

I think I will just send the drive back. I have most of the Data backed up and don't really need the rest.

I have already pulled the drive. I was considering pulling the platters and putting them in another (identical) drive to get the data. I figure the heads in this one are gone.

I have a virus in my system volume. How do I get rid of it? Nortons Antivirus says my system is clean but I keep getting an error saying I have this virus and Nortor's has denied access to the file, but I keep getting this pop up and it take a ton of clicks to get rid of it. HELP. Thanks Michael

Thanks...my virus doesn't show up in the registry like symantec website says it should. I am just gonna do a fresh install.

We are having a problem with Goldmine 4.0. it locks up when downloading emails...if we use auto retrieve it workd most of the time. Anyone have any suggestions. I called techsupport and they can't figure it out either. Thanks

Ok, here is the situation. we got bellsouth ADSL at work as our main connection to the internet. It works fine except if we try to go to www.ups.com or www.fedex.com. we get an error 45 (I think) We called bellsouth and they can't figure it out...we called UPS and they can't figure it out either...UPS says all is ok on there side...now here is where it really gets weird. We tried the dail-up, back up for Bellsouth and have the same problem...but I dialed into there other server and it works...Anyone have any clue what is up with this. Bellsouth says there DNS servers are up and working fine....Your help is needed. I tried tracert and I get request times out. Do you think the problem could be in out router? Thanks Laddyboy

Although I am sure I am not the unabomber, I am not too sure about other things. One thing I am sure about is my DSL problem is fixed..at least until next time. Here is what was up. After UPS said it wasn't them and Bellsouth said it wasn't them. I did a tracert and found out I was getting dropped in NJ just like other people were getting. Apparently there is a forum just on this on Bellsouth's news group. Anyway. I called UPS and told them I was getting dropped from there server in NJ and if they could take another look at it. Well they called back and found out that they blocked those IP address because they were getting hacked into. They rerouted us through another server and we are back in business. Thanks to all that help me out.

try setting static ip address's to your local network and then set the DNS server and Gateway to you IP address and see if that works...I am not sure if it will, but give it a try. You might have to use a program like winproxy though. Don't get made at me if it doesn't work.

I had a problem with zonealarm, if it was even installed, I got no network. I uninstalled it and my network was back up. My suggestion. Uninstall all firewall apps, reinstall tcp/ip and get your network up and running. reinstall drivers also if necessary. Once you are up and running, then try your firewall again, with the proper patches if there are any. good luck

good, actually you need to open up IE and go to tools and internet options and then the advanced tab and remove the chech mark from -(enable personalized favorite menu) also, that will turn it off for real

I keep getting the following errer in event viewer and my network wont run....can anyone help me The IP address lease 205.229.255.95 for the Network Card with network address 0080C8C1C06E has been denied by the DHCP server 208.220.88.250 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message). I am running win2k on the machine with the cable modem and win98se on the machine I can't access anymore.. All 3 machines have realtek nic's. If I do a search for the 98se machine It finds it...it takes a while...but it finds it. The 98s3 machine is set to use dhcp server. My system is perfectly stable, until I enable my second network card. System just up and reboots...anyone have any suggestions. I am running Win2k and it's a realtek NIC. I even just did a fresh windows install and still having problem. Is the card gone? go to the cpu voltage settings an try upping the I/O setting...try 3.4 and then 3.5 and so on...I had to put mine to 3.5 for stability. 3.6 locked my system though..so don't go to high. If you lock at post...just shut off computer and wait 15sec and hold down the insert key and turn it on and after detection of the hard drives start go back into cmos and go down a notch. default is 3.3 good luck
