who is this sandvic charater? i build gaming systems for a living and i use win2k as my gaming platform....its awesome and i dont get any call backs because of games crashing like they did in winblows 98, the biggest complaint from my customers was that they were tired of having to reboot every 10 minutes. also, most gamers like to run game servers if they are on high bandwidth connections. win2k is ,oh, so much better when it comes to networking....ive built a few systems that run q3 servers as a system service and the stabality is excellent...so, as far as win2k not being a good gaming platform, thats bunk. also as far as gaming companies not supporting win2k in future, that is also bunk, huge game developers like id software saw the future and concentrated on the nt kernel.....so if yer gaming and yer using win2k YOU are the future. ------------------ ŖőĢǚΣ

try deleting your windows folder and then install dos and then install win2k over that....i heard a guy say that that works for everything...lol

i have a friend that has recently installed win2k and downloaded the new drivers for his canon bj2000 printer....he tries to install the drivers and it does nothing.....no new hardware found, nothing. i told him that i believed he wasnt logging on as the admin and that could be the prob. has anyone else encountered probs with the canon bj2000...if so, could you post with possible solutions....thanks

Quantus really thinks windows 2000 sucks? Tell us how he is

well ive been watching this one for awhile now. first, at first i had hell with win2k in beta, but now my system is a gamers dream. i was using beta or hacked drivers for all of my hardware but now creative and others have released their drivers. now im not a network or pc guru, but i also work out of my home. i build gaming systems and do home networking for a living. all of my gaming systems are built around win2k now. now like everyone else has said i dont know what you are doing wrong but my machine works flawlessly. my games never crash like they did under win9x. i dont have to reboot my sys every 20 minutes like i did with 98. also dont even get me started on overclocking. i dont know what ms did in win2k to improve the overclocking ability but i salute them. i have a junker machine( im sure most ppl at this forum has one) that is a 266mhz p2 that ive managed to overclock to almost 500mhz. to me that is very impressive. all my machines are overclocked now and when i used win98 i couldnt do this. same machines, same cpu's. so i dont have a clue what you are doing wrong but almost all my apps work perfectly and even in a lot of instances that work better. win98 was so discouraging, it always crashed for some reason. my wife's machine is still 98 and she has such hell with it. im always working out irq problems and trying to find out why its crashing. not to mention when she does a windows update. after a window update her computer is unstable for days. i dont even want to list all the games and apps that ive gotten to work under win2k. it would blow your mind if youre whining so much about issues. because ive got very few. i salute these guys at this forum too because when win2k was in its beta form i got drivers for my hardware so could play games and do so much. so i suggest you go to an apple forum somewhere and whine about ms there. youre obviously an over educated moron.(and believe me i know a few) you could do other things for attention, one suggestion is to go jump in front of a fast moving bus. that would get you the attention you need and deserver......lol ŖőĢǚΣ -
well i was having the same probs but creative has just released their drivers for win2k and my creative anhilator ddr works fine with their drivers.....i have a 466mhz celeron oced to 600.....win2k pro.....
-
well i went ahead and did a clean install the drivers work real good except the register.exe crashed, i reinstalled without regestering it and it installed fine....its about time we had some cl drivers, now if creative would build some drivers for my dxr2, dvd, and my tnt2 ultra id be set

well i have a friend who has more money than is good for him and he runs advanced server out of his home....he has an email server and a chat server that he runs from it, as well as an awesome lan set up (with t1 i might add), we have have killer q3 lan parties on it....ill be sure to tell him not to come here if he has problems. just kidding! im just making a point that just about everybody at this forum has a friend like ken. the rich guy who has everything including a $30,000 server set up in their home, well maybe not that over the edge, but i know serveral ppl who run their businesses out of there home who would and do use win2k advanced server. im considering purchasing it myself, i just landed a job running a 300 computer network for a local isd...im considering scrapping the whole token ring and novell setup for a total microsoft setup....anyway, in this very active economy we are enjoying right now you would be very suprised to know how many ppl are running very advanced setups out of thier homes. i myself have 5 computers in my home and i use one for a server.....its cheezy but it serves its purpose....i only run an ftp and a q3 server on it....so lets keep the suspicions down and help ppl out....that's my opinion and i could be wrong

well ive tried everything and this install seems to be worst than the hacked version that i was using before. ive tried installing it 4 times and it hangs just after the registration. then the register.exe generates errors if i try it in safe mode....if i try to just update the drivers my machine reboots before login and i have to go into safe mode to remove the drivers.....it seems that these are very beta drivers....if anyone figures out a work around for this let me know
-
well ive tried to install 4 times and it hangs....
-
does anyone have this in zip format...i hate rar files cause i dont seem to have the savvy to extract em
-
well if the live ware works then i would go back to liveware 1.0.....cause no matter how much installing i do i still have major probs with the liveware 3.0 in win2k....where are you guys finding the sb live win2k drivers? i searched creative and i couldnt find em
-
well...you must be doing something wrong cause the Q3Tweak uses Q3's own settings and it doenst have anything to do with drivers....if the drivers work for Q2 then they will work for Q3.....I build gaming systems and i install the app on all machines that i use with win2k....it works good and im only using the tnt 3.56 drivers
-
ive got a program called Q3Tweak....it works good for me in Q3...you can adjust a lot of things including your gamma and intensity... ive got it on my website http://home.swbell.net/quakin

well just got back in town....wow this has really gone on a while hasnt it? ok a little update. i noticed a couple of the guys saying that win2k isnt for the novice. so at thanksgiving i installed win2k on my mother-in-laws puter that i built for her....its a little dual penny job...i couldnt afford a lot of memory at the time so its only got 32 megs. well, its been at her house now since thanksgiving and guess what? NO PROBLEMS! this woman's picture is in the dictionary under computer illiterate. she uses it daily and not so much of a burp out of the machine. im still going to use win2k as the platform for my gaming machines. did i mention that i now have quake 1 working in win2k....i play it online all the time. i have sent a couple of guys over to this site for info and i dont want them getting confused by the crap that ppl like peaje and ronin write. i honestly believe what we have here are ppl who would argue with you no matter what your stand is. if you disliked win2k they would go the opposite way just to irratate you. lots of ppl have different views on this subject but ronin seems to me to be a little kid. hey im 16 and i know everything. i dont know his age but he acts like a kid anyway. i dont know how long he has been using this os but ive been using it for some time now and im really impressed with it preformance. he keeps sayin that win98 is the only gaming platform. thats such crap. what makes a gaming platform? well in my view its the games. ms doesnt say: lets not write game support into an os...its the other way around. the game designers decide which os's they are going to support...granted win nt workstation was for work...but so was win 3.11 workstation. did it run games? YES! there are some games that are specifically written for win X but ive found that most run in win2k. ms has relized that more and more ppl are using entertainment apps right along side of biz apps....my view is if you feel so strongly about win98 go harass ppl on a win98 forum somewhere. as soon as win2k is available im gonna ship my puters with win2k and i build mainly gaming machines....ive already set it up on 3 machines for buddies and they are very impressed....the machines overclock much more cleanly than any win98 machines do and they network better. so if your having problems with your machine its probably you and not the os....like i said before, for every guy that comes in here with a prob there are 100 that are running it problem free. im not saying that i havent had my problems but ive worked out much of the "bugs" that ive found and its a good, strong os..... this is my opinion and i could be wrong

here we go again...is this guy an ms employee or what...i ran win mill for about 3 months and it sucked hard...just like win98, all prettied up but crashed worse that win95. the thing im learning about win2k is you can run just about any game in it, and all of my biz apps. all that with hacked and beta drivers. if you were to run a beta driver in winmill you would have to run fdisk, format and start all over again. the dos based oses are on the way out. if winmill makes it to market it will blow my mind. most of my customers are lining up for win2k to be released. stability and great game performance, what more could you ask for?? like ive said so many times before. i NEVER reboot this system. when i was running win98 i rebooted an average of 3 to 4 times a day. how about this? your fraggin your ass off and smoking everybody in the q3 server, all you have is one more frag and your the top dog. SUDDENLY! blank screen. oh, win98 decided it needed to be rebooted again. that os is so frustrating im suprised they even sold a copy of it. so will i buy mill? NO F**CKING WAY!!!!! im to spoiled to running for days without so much as a glitch. i sold the hell out of win98 with my gaming machines and frankly im sick and tired of getting em in on service orders....and usually something stupid, it forgets it has a dvd, or, it decides that the tnt2 ultra in it is really a standard video controller....so im gonna game with win2k and let the idiots fight with mill. thats my opion and i may be wrong

dont use the install prog to extract the files...use winzip and then boot to safe mode and use the run.cmd file that came with the instructions....i had the same problem, when i used the install to extract the liveware my machine would lock up or nothing would happen at all...i just created a folder and used winzip to extract all the files...my live works fine...have eax and all other features including 4 speaker support

it looks like everybody is getting along well to me...i think its good to have fun and stirring conversation in these forums. i may get a little carried away sometimes, but, really its all in fun. im sure if i met any of the guys in this forum id hit it off real quick with em. we all have our own views and thats what this is all about. i can tell by reading what peaje has written that he knows what he is talking about. if he had written something that didnt interest me i would have just browsed over and went on. and he is absolutely right, in a year or two we will move on to some other os, whether its ms or whatever.

ok...how about this....w2k isnt intended as a gaming platform, but it is{oops i guess microsoft made a mistake}, i have all my games running on w2k with the exception of some lame ass games that are specifically written for winblows 98, yes your right, win98 boots up real fast but thats to make up for ALL the times you have to reboot, my w2k machine is only restarted when i install a new app or upgrade to the next build. so youre a beta tester? SO, do you know how many beta testers there are out there? in the scheme of things your not but a pimple among a million pimples. just becuase your signed up for microsoft's beta testing program doesnt make you an expert on the direction that microsoft is going....tell me what do they do call you up at night and ask: " hey peaje this is bill, do you think we ought to make w2k a gaming platform? { and i picture you scratching your head and saying: "well bill, remember windows nt? it sucked for gaming." dont you think there is a reason they dont have the WORKSTATION tacked on the end of windows2000? this os is a broad spectrum os. i have installed it on all of my machines but one...what i really like about it is after i get done working up my weeks expenses or a couple of spreadsheets on a couple of computers i have going out during the week, i fire up q3 and play a few rounds on the internet...hmmm..sounds like a real crappy gaming platform to me. guys like you will come in here and discourage ppl from using this on their home machines when it is a perfectly fine os for home or office use....so just give it up, just about everybody here is using it for biz and gaming applications and its performing well i might add. for every guy that comes in here with problems there are a dozen that are running it problem free. this is my opion and i could be wrong

good morning all....i havent been around in a few days, and boy has it heated up around here. i just thought i put my 2 cents in here. most of you guys who are whining about w2k{would you like some cheese with that wine?} should just leave it alone. you need to have some patience to work with this os. i personally have very few problems with it. as far as it being a gaming platform? yes it is, and a very good one i might add. i have personally called creative labs tech support and they are not going to have drivers for their products till feb when its released, why? because they are lazy, they dont have to have any kind of support for it till then. i use the hacked and beta drivers for tnt2 u, sblive and other hardware and my system works flawlessly{except for a few very minow problems}. i dont know what you guys are doing wrong but the first step is to listen. dont come here and start shooting off your mouth. just read what other members saying and go from there. when i first came here i was having huge problems and found that most of the guys here are real nice and they have helped me get the latest builds of w2k and have helped me get my hardware running. i must send out personal thanks to chameleon who has spent hours on icq with me working through some compatibility probs. but all works good now. my conclusion? if you spend your time crying and frustrated youll never get your os running because your not listening to whats going on. stop sitting around thinkin about how much you know and try to build on what you know by learning more. i build gaming systems for a living and i plan on using w2k as my gaming platform...most of my customers complained about the unstability of win98. i have unreal tourney, unreal, halflife, kingpin, quake2, quake3, and several other games working, hell i even have quake1 working excellent on my puter. so i think the problems lie with you my friend not the os. so shutup and listen or go back to win98 and sit through the reboots. this is my opion and i could be wrong

as far as the instructions for sblive go....dont run the setup file....use winzip to extract the archive to a folder that you create on your hdd and then follow the instructions....i found the setup wont work for me either....

well i dont know about adaptec or plexwhatever, but i run a symbios controller with 4 9.1 gig seagate barracudas{differential drives} and mine runs flawlessly....extremely fast too
