i have been using 4.29 via 4 in 1 drivers and i have tried various nvidia drivers from 6.34 to 11.01 [This message has been edited by Crash99 (edited 02 April 2001).]

my friend was thinking of o/c his tyan 100, but the 100mhz memory fails...just wondering if anyone has tried 133 mhz ram on it, and if so what kind has worked...also are there any dual bx440's that can accept 133mhz ram...doesnt want to use via or the 8xx series chipsets...any help would be great

thank you both very much...i will pass the word to him...

My 1st guess would be to make sure that your video card has its own irq in the bios...I have heard people fixing graphics card issues in win2k by doing that...the tnt's have always been pretty compatible with win2k...I was using a velocity 4400 on a beta version of win2k before....hope that helps...

Try looking for the "wicked gl" drivers. They should help w/ q3...i'm not sure if it will do anything w/ unreal though...it has options to install drivers into certain games, such as half-life and q3...adds a serious boost in performance...don't have the site on hand, but shouldn't be hard to find...

actually, I think the hype is more about space conservation...As far as picture quality goes, so far i'd take my viewsonci over one of those monitors any day...I don't think they have very high refresh rates, and if your sitting in the wrong place, you can't see anything on the screen...They cost so much b/c the technology is newer and it's just out right expensive to make them...I could be wrong, but that's my 2 cents.

I'm on a 56 as well, just play some games while your waiting...

E-mail zzottt@uswest.net This person might be able to help you out...worked for me zzottt, if you are reading...many thanks

I have heard that only slot 1 p3's are able to run in smp...I don't remember the site, but basically the flip chips designed to run in smp...don't know if this helps either...if its slot 1 then I would imagine any dual mobo w/ coppermine compatibility would work...
-
I would go hogwild and just get a GeForce type card...anyways, you might want to try the wickedgl driver...It has boosted the performance of voodoo based cards in windows, and might help you get some better results w/o having to upgrade yet...don't have the site on hand, but it is easy to find

actually, some other people on the board were having similar problems...the game would actually start using the hard drive more when the ram was dropped to 160 or lower...the post was in the games section not more than a couple of days ago...i would put the ram back in and see if it works fine again...

I installed mine under win98, then deleted the gimme.dll file and used the crack from www.megagames.com and had it running on each machine that I own, and one actually had similar spec to yours (same card and processor) That was the only way that I was able to get it to work...now i can just move the folder to any tnt based wink machine and the games seems to run fine (1280x1024)

The easiest way I can think of is by using a cracked version. I have a quake 1 folder that will run without an actual installation b/c it was already installed and cracked elsewhere. Just the Quake1 folder after it has already been installed and cracked in win9x and place it in win 2k and it should run just fine or if you have a dual boot systm, just run the exec from where ever the folder is and it will work.

i don't know if everyone knows this, but you can seriously cut the load time of ut by modifying the unreal tournament.ini file This mod will stop the game from loading the intro and skip right to the black logo screen. the local map section usually points to the city intro map...replace it with the following line and enjoy faster loading... LocalMap=UT-Logo-Map.unr props to my computer geek friend mike
-
I have the cd crack as well...the hack simply forces the game to skip the loading of the city intro, which brings it right to the black logo screen...time is saved even if you have the cd crack b/c the intro takes so long to load, regardless of hard drive or cd-rom speeds...

I have yet to have a problem w/ either GeForce that I have...both are creative labs If you are looking for the tv in and out though, you might want to take a look @ asus b/c i think they make one w/ some of the tv type features...with the GeForce 2 gts out, the regular GeForces should be dropping in price real soon
-
I was debating the idea of getting a gladiac GeForce GTS2, and then came to the realization that I would need to replace one of my current GeForces to make room for it...if anyone has any decent offers, feel free to post or e-mail me. This way I wouldn't actually have to shell out $350 for it. johnsontanner@yahoo.com

The BE6-II has single digit increments from 83mhz to 200mhz...not that i recommend running anything @ 200 mhz, but it is a great board for o/c...you can try any speed in between and see what happens...it is jumperless, but there is a dim switch also, so you can adjust the board manually if you "accidently" over shoot your o/c
-
After I used the crack and deleted the gimme.dll file, I was running nfs5 without a hitch...I was using detonator 5.13 drivers on a GeForce ddr...real smooth...
-
actually, aside from the pci conflict slot 3, i still had probs b/c I had it filled w/ cards...once I solved the ultra66 conflict, my decoder card conflicted w/ the sb live, then the scsi card conflicted w/ the sb live...talk about a field day...eventually i just built a 2nd machine and put the scsi card and decoder card in that one...had every slot filled before that, much more spacious now...anyways, hope bladerunner is up and running now

I had hangups that ceased when removing dimms...With a 256 dimm and two 128 dimms, win2k would do total freezes...I would have to reboot...No nvidia drivers have made my system crash yet, but the dimms were mixed brands...they wld run fine on 98, but crash in 2k...win2k might just be more sensitive to mixed ram...I can use either to 256 or the two 128's (128's are the same brand)

Your best bet is to do a clean install of win2k w/ the hardrive attached to the regular ide channel, then after its running, install the hpt drivers for win2k. After they are installed, then switch the hard drive over to the ultra 66 controller...try to leave cdrom devices on the regular ide channels...fyi, I have the same mobo, the performance gain is minimal if any at all...when it worked for me, it took a little longer for win2k to boot...I ended up disabling them in the bios b/c there were too many conflicts between my s/b live and scsi card that was already there, and it just wasn't as fast...also, I tried to get to you on the last thread, but you had already left

just wondering what the best dual mobo would be for gaming on a win2k/98 setup...I want to put dual PIII 650's and many of the places I am looking seem to have little info on dual mobo in regards to performance and compatibility. I won't be running scsi on it, so I figured that would bring the price down...any tips? Thanks in advance

Thanks...I actually was planning to run servers while playing games on it, so that works out perfect...I didn't think it would do much for frame rates...that just confirms it...Thanks again
