I have a bp6 and 2 ultra dma 66 drives, a wd 13 gig and a maxtor 27. When I put the 27gig on the 66 controller everything works fine, win2k and 98 will boot. If I then put the 13 on 98 will boot but 2k will not, it gets about half way done on the loading screen and just dies. This happens when both drives are plugged in, or when just the 13 gig is plugged in. Background, the 13 gig reports its a dma66 drive on boot, and in the wd diag program. I am running the latest bios for the bp and for the udma66 controller. I figured that might be the problem so I upgraded my older bios. All the appropriate drivers are loaded and my 27gig works fine in 2k. The 13 works perfectly on the dma33 controller. One of my friends has the same drive, and the BE6 and he has the same problem. I am going to call Western Digital this afternoon, I just wanted to see if anyone has had this problem and knows if it can be fixed or if its just something I have to deal with.
-
Yeah I have tried taht to no avail. I am guessing its just a problem with the controler and the 13gig.
-
I have that same problem, but as far as I can see it only effects my western dgigital 13gig, my 27gig drive works fine.
-
Yeah, I knew that a format wouldnt help, but it was worht a shot, and i dont have a BE6, rather a BP6. I think it must be a problem with abit boards and the wd13
-
I have tried that. No go, Ihave reloaded win2k on it no go. And btw, my 27 works just fine on the 66 with out reformating (it was formated on the 33)

Your right, microsoft did initialy say that win2k was going to be a merger of nt and 9x. BUT they later said it wasnt and that would be for a later product.
-
I completely disagree, Microsoft has come through this time with a pretty good Operating system. Sure the driver and app support can be bad at times but its still less than a month after the release. Give it time as I remember it took a little while for companies to jump on the 98 bandwagon. As for the merging of NT and 98, win2k was not intended to be that. It was intended to be an upgrade to NT not 98. Windows ME will do that later this year(?). Microsoft is planning a project that will finaly bring winnt(2k) together with 9x but that is a ways off yet.

Well, either cut down on what you are loaing in the background at startup. Or add more ram. If you just want to get rid of the light, you could alwasy just unplug it.
-
its Because win2k still thinks that the old card is installed, which means you didnt uninstall it properly when you installed the new card
-
Its probably because its cacheing stuff on your harddrive, and that redlight means its accessing your drive

Try using any of the drivers for the TNT or the Geforce series of cards. That will crash it for sure

I find it quite interesting that in both of these conversations, everyone who has justified piracy has done so by saying the price is simply too high. And that is supposed to make it allright? While I fully agree that the prices for software, especialy MS's products are a bit over priced at times. Just because you dont feel right paying 200$ + for an OS doesnt give you the right to pirate it. There are plenty of free options availabe, such as linux and soon BeOS will be free as well. While they may not suit your needs to play games, windows98 will, and that is much more reasonably priced then 2k is. As for the other new functions in 2k, I know for a fact that most of the critical ones are available for linux for free. I dont know about BeOS, because I have not tried it yet. </rant> just my .02$

Unfortunatly I thinkyour pretty much out of luck untill (if they ever do) diamond releases drivers. And knowing their track history with that kind of stuff, you could be in for a long wait. Plus I have heard that because of the deal with S3 they wont be getting any driver updates for legacy products. The reason your 770 doesnt work with the NVidia ref. drivers is because its not a true ref. card.
-
Have you tried the most recent v3 drivers, in my opinion it sounds like a driver problem. Especialy if both you and your friend have the same video card and the same drivers.
-
What Drivers are you using and are you overclocking, what is simular between your machine and his machine? are you both running win2k?

I have tried many times to get a 3200C to work in win2k on afriends computer to no avail. And HPs official response is we are not supporting it. So if you do get it working please post how to here.

My system is very stable, I average 3-4 day uptimes. Only problems I have are still related to the damn buggy Nvidia Drivers. As far as win2k being as stable as unix, I wouldnt go that far. but it comes damn close.

Has anyone had any success with the new aureal drivers that were posted on this site yesterday? They work fine as longas I dont want 4 independent channels or as long as I dont try to turn on a3d
-
I am using the ones on Nvidias page 3.78. But its been working with all the other ones just fine. I havenot however tried to watch a movie on my monitor with the Creative software.
-
I am using the Creative software with the WDM drivers with no problems, for tvout only. If I watch a movie on my pc I use WinDVD that came with my Geforce. Maybe try a software decoder rather than the creative one.

FINALLY Diamond MM are starting to come to the party!
DarkOne replied to Ekstreme's topic in Hardware
Its a shame to see diamond like this now, with even worse driver support, I used to be a big supporter of theirs but now with them saying we are not going to support our legacy products, its just not worth it. -
What version of the GeForce Drivers are you using? Have you tried the ones that came out tonight?
-
My creative 5x kit works great in 2k all you have to do is use the WDM drivers for the DXR2. BUT I am not sure about the one that comes with the 8x kit, dxr3? If you Video Card has tvout there really is no reason for a decoder card, unless you want the 5.1 sound out that is found on some cards.

Hmm, I installed the new drivers, rebooted, and everything worked just fine. I did not hae any other Logitech drivers on my system. I am not sure why you guys are having so many problems with them.

Has anyone had any luck getting a Digital Research Techonolgies scanner to work under win2k? I can get the NT drivers to install but the scanner wont work. DarkOne
