    Intel Create and Share Camera?

I noticed in the compatablity pages that Intel Create and Share Cameras (USB) work in win2k. When I connect it to my pc it seems to detect it. However, I have no software to do anything with it, and the compatablity pages says the packaged software doesn't work (as is my experience). So does anyone have their camera doing anything usefull? I would like to be able to take stills with it, and maybe do some video confrencing. If so what software are you using to do this. Thanks for any help, Apoptosis

    win2k 5.13 beta

Just got done doing some testing. Quake3 runs fine. Age of Empires runs fine. PowerDVD runs fine. And my webcam runs fine. Everything that has given me trouble works with these drivers! Sweet. My system is a BP6 dual 400, QQbios, ASPI Multiprocessor, Diamond V550 TNT card. Don't have any Quake3 benches, but it looks good and is fast enough! r_smp was kind of choppy for me. For those that are having problems with it, it really matters which kernel your running. I had fewer problems before I went to the ASPI Kernel. Anyways these drivers are a keeper. Apoptosis
  4. Just Today I started getting the same type of msg when I open outlook express, I get msimn.exe throwing the same error. Does anyone know what is going on? The only program I installed recently is MSN IM 2.1 . I am thinking this broke outlook express.

    Abit BP6 Rant

I would like to take a second to complain about Abit. In particular their driver support for the BP6. I have had this mobo basicly since it came out. It was a great idea and seemed perfect for the Win2k machine I was building. In fact after I bought it, it received several mobo of the year awards. So you think with such great hardware, Abit would complement it with great software. This has not been the case. Abit seems to think putting out "Offical" BIOS every 5 months is supporting its product. This might be ok if the BIOS they put out were fully functional. For those who have it I am refering particularly with ASPI <> UDMA 66 conflicts, && MPS 1.4 <> USB conflicts. You would thing with these known problems they would be doing everything possible to get out a new bios. However, just check there page and see how long it has been! Now I know some will say Abit makes beta bios avalible, but I hate constantly upgrading sometimes to discover you are better off with the old version. I don't feel I should have to do that. As you can tell I am sort of disappointed in Abit. How could they make such an awsome product and then let it fall to crap with driver support. For that reason this will be my last Abit product. Well that is my rant. Take it or leave it but I needed to say it . Apoptosis

How do you formate c: with NTFS 5?

Every time I want to wipe my drive clean of a previous win2k installation I do the following: 1. Boot with my good ole win98 boot disk. 2. fdisk to remove NTFS partion, and create new dos partion. 3. restart and format c: (fat32) 4. install win2k, and specify convertion to NTFS Now I know this can't be the best way. I would like to put in a Win2k boot disk and format c: (NTFS), right off the bat. Just forget about the whole fat32, win98 boot disk part. Is there a way to do this? Or maybe someone has a better (faster) way? Thanks for the help, Apoptosis

    Real Player 7 and TNT

I have had problems with Real Player 7 for a long time now. Basicly what happens is that when I am playing some movies it puts my monitor in hybernate mode and I can't recover. It has done this since Real Player was in beta. So I thought it was a beta bug. However, now I think it is my system. I have the newest TNT 3.75 drivers and I have used just about every driver that has come out for the TNT in win2k. Same problem. The only thing else I have that may be the reason is my BP6 mobo. Is there a setting I am missing? Has anyone else had this problem, I haven't seen anything about it. It must be my system because everyone has posted that RP 7.0 works in win2k. Thanks for any help, Apoptosis

    New Nvidia Drivers 3.65

If changing your video drivers is your thing: http://www.clanworld.org/download/fileinfo.asp?fileid=1004 Now that I have got your ear. I just wanted to say a thing about the "Win2k sucks" debate. First, I am a programmer and I know why we don't support a beta os. It is EXPENSIVE! It is hard enough to make software that works on one os correctly. Now try supporting a OS that changes on a month to month basis. Also, customer support doubles every os you support, and CS is really expensive. As cheap as it is for software, and as expensive it is to hire programmers. It is a real strain on a company to support multiple OS. Just wait and see the support fly when it is Final though. Also, Win2k doesn't suck. Even If though I can't run every peice of software/hardware I have, I would not go back to 98. I tried that once when I was on my "Win2k sucks" kick. It was not pretty. Win2k in its Beta 2 form was the best OS microsoft has put out. I still don't understand the linux movement, or the BeOS movement. Apoptosis

    PGP 6.5.2a and RC3?

Has anyone tried using PGP with RC3? It doesn't integrate itself with Outlook expess on my machine. It throws a error when I go to send a email I clicked to be encripted. It works fine on my win98se machine. Also, I am new to encription, is PGP the best program to use? I.E. is it safe? Thanks, Apoptosis
  14. I can't seem to get a microphone to work in RC3. Here is what I have tried: 3 microphones, on two different sound cards, in two different computers. One of the microphones is brand new. The sound cards are a Ensonic 32 half duplex, and a MX300 full duplex. The computers are a PII 266 with LX mobo, and dual Celeron 400 with BP6 mobo. After all this testing it still doesn't work so I am assuming it is a bug in RC3, can someone confirm this? And yes I unchecked mute mic in volume control, and yes I selected mic as the input device. I tested using sound recorder, and Dialpad.com. Thanks for any help, Apoptosis

Microphone in RC3 problem, please help.

Thank you guys for your help. I just got it working. What I did what dissabled the volume control panel in the device manager under my sound card properties. Then restarted. I could now here my voice in the headphones but couldn't use sound recorder because it would say "another device is recording now". So I enabled the volume control panel, and restarted again. Suddenly it works! I am not sure what happend but all I care about is it works. Thanks again. Apoptosis

    Major Problems with RC3?

Here are a list of my experiences with RC3 now that I have had a week to play with it. If anyone has any solutions to these problems please post them. First, My system: ----------------------- BP6 Mobo running New NJ Bios STB V4400 TNT card running Detonator 3.56 MX300 Soundcard Dual celeron 400 (overclocked to 570) I have found RC3 to be worst than RC2. However, I have changed a few things from RC2. 1. I switched to using NTFS in RC2 to using Fat 32 in RC3. I did this because I was tired of the long installs, and just wanted to try it out. 2. I was using my ensonic 32 soundcard, because the MX300 wouldn't work in SMP mode. Now my problems. -Age of Empires 2 which was working fine in RC2, now crashes. Just recently I noticed it happens when the alarm for one of your buildings gets attacked goes off. So I am thinking maybe although the MX300 drivers now appear to work in RC3 that maybe they are buggy. Has anyone else had this problem? -The Detenator 3.56 drivers I was using in RC2, no longer work. These were directly from ASUS. What would happen is these drivers would load into a lower resolution with 256 colors. I now use chameleon's 3.56 drivers, that seem to work. The only difference between the two is that chamoleon's drivers have a older nvogint.dll from 10-16-1999, and not the ASUS 11-5-1999. It just seems weird that the drivers that did work find now don't. And chamoleon had to mix and match. Major props chamoleon, I didn't want to have to figure that out. -Half-life which worked fine for me in RC2 now gives me "Bad surface extents" errors in RC3. I thought this was a video driver error so I have tried all my previous versions of the W2k detonator drivers. No luck. I have read this may be a install problem, so I re installed half-life. Same problem. I am thinking this may be a problem with Fat32 vs. NTFS. I plan on going back to NTFS to see if this is the problem. I would love if someone could confirm this. -Quake3demotest: I have no idea were to begin with this. It crashes sometimes, r_smp 1 seems to work now, I get weird menus, and mouse trails. I never ran this in RC2 so I am not sure if it is worst or better. Oh, and it is dark. The funny thing is, that I have read many many posts about Win2k with TNT and Q3A and no one seems to have the problems I do. Other than the darkness but I am sure that is the Detonator drivers. -I have not tried UDMA 66 in RC3 yet, but after my experience with RC2 and my BP6 board I am not to quick to try it out again. If anyone has a experience in RC6 with UDMA 66 please post it. Well Thats finally it. Let me know how you guys are doing with RC3. Love, Apoptosis

    Anyone tried RC3 & MX300

I just installed RC3 on my BP6 and the MX300 drivers now support SMP.

So what the verdict on RC3 and hardware?

I just installed RC3 and yes the MX300 drivers seem to be working with SMP!
