  1. Being in process of migrating an NT4 Domain/PDC to 2000 Server under enourmous pressure (our PDC disk system crashed a few hours ago and we´re running on an emergency server at the moment), though I had read a lot of information on that topic, I can´t figure out exactly, how to do it properly: It should be a single forest/single domain/not external visible PDC. We are using a Cisco PIX FW/Router, DNS is used the one of our ISP respectively the DNS forwarder of the PIX. For example: Domain name was (and should remain) xxx-domain PDC server name was yyy-nt01 ip was 10.43.1.10/ff.ff.ff.00 gateway was 10.43.1.2 DNS was - whatever, an external ip address What should I use best on AD name, Domain name (DNS name), regarding that the server will only serve internally? And how should DNS server be set up properly (any hint on a step-by-step-list?) thanks for any kind of help Llion
  2. Simply set the existing wallpaper-file to read-only and only accessible to admins Have fun
  3. Sometimes I get the problem of having to install W2k without the proper CD nearby. Usually, if it is urgent, I use one of the existing product keys, but afterwards, when the right CD cover/label is around I would like to correct this. Any (legal) possibility for that problem?

    Drivers for Fortissimo II?

aaaahhh... I have to love Guillemot - and I always thought, a supplier has to love his customers...sorry, was my mistake:-) Since this piece of crap didn´t install properly - not even on a complete fresh W2k/SP1 or SP2 installation (application errors allover) and since the Guillemot support was so overwhelming ;-) I returned it today. Went with a SB Live 5.1 - everything´s working now Though - thanks, guys Llion

    Drivers for Fortissimo II?

Thanks. That was my impression, too. Funny, though, to have absolutely NO support files, FAQs etc. Have fun Llion

    Drivers for Fortissimo II?

Anyone knowing where to find these? Guillemot seems to hide this card in it´s support area! Thanks in advance Llion

    Netgear = CRAP!!!!!

we sold Netgear products for over 3/4 year and stopped after too many troubles with either NICs, switches and Routers. Cheap, but unstable. (understand me right: in percentage of sold units we had 2-3 times more defective / inproper devices than from other manufaturers) What has proved to be stable over longer periods are 3Com - now better again, after a quality hole of about two years with NIC´s they seem to be back to better quality - and (at least in Europe) D-Link. 3Com - best for NIC´s, good, but quite overpriced in active Network devices and hubs. D-Link - everything good and stable, low price cards are medium-performers. Active devices and hubs/routers are very well-priced. Both offer excellent service in Europe, though D-Link´s RMA works amazingly faster. But be it Netgear, Surecom or thatever - we experienced too much troubles with those. Intel we never distributed, and my few own experiences are not representative enough to tell anything Have fun Llion

    ECC RAM

Pay attention. At least CUSL2-C doesn´t support ECC. I was VERY unhappy to see that. But since i-815 with max 512 MB can´t be used as a workstation or server the support for ECC doesn´t make too much sense, too. Well, toys... Llion [This message has been edited by Llion (edited 09 March 2001).]

    Speed of my home network.

Just because I had a similar situation here... Be sure you have defragmented your harddrives. And be sure you have UDMA enabled for your HDs. I had a VERY bad NW performance (W2k clients and NT server) and was playing around with all possible NW settings - nothing helped - until I installed BX busmaster IDE driver (which made NW access appr. three times faster - no kidding) and defragmented my HDs on the server (which nearly doubled the NW speed again). Before that it took ~1,75 min to copy 200 MB, now it takes about 20 sec. Maybe this helps you, too. First I didn´t believe that this changed so much for me. Have fun Llion

    Motherboard options

I am running ASUS CUBX/E and ist works great! Overclocking is supreme, performance is excellent - a LOT faster than 815 boards I tested before (AOPEN, ASUS and Abit). Extremely stable, 2 x UDMA100 (Promise) and 2 x UDMA33 on board. Just take care you get the "/E" - version!!! On the CUBX w/o "/E" the onboard controller was crap. Best board I ever had (and a lot of my customers are very satisfied with it, too). Cinemaster

Hi, everybody. Can´t start Cinemaster 2000, the first screnn telling Cinemaster is initialing DVD playback is hanging. Tried it from a fresh Installation (with SP1) - the same. ASUS CUBX, CUSL2 all the same. I am using Pioneer 105 ATA Has anyone a solution on that problem? Llion

    MSI K7T pro

Oh,just crashed a few times while copying files, nothing serious;-) But to be honest... no problems anymore: Going with AOpen AX3S and PIII 733@825 - absolutely flawlessly, no driver probs, no problem at all. Not often seen such a problemless installation (and we build a few thousand systems a year) and it 'feels' like the big brother of the (though fast) Thunderbird - brutal force was my first thought when I started working with it. Amazing! It´s a shame that a good CPU like Athlon has such a lot of crap around to sit in - nothing but probs with VIA! Have fun Llion

    MSI K7T pro

And - just to add this - the DMZG-demo doesnt start any more. I just get a glimpse of the screen - about a quarter of a second, and then it´s off again :-( Have (more) fun (than I do) Llion [This message has been edited by Llion (edited 18 September 2000).]

    MSI K7T pro

Just (this time privately) played around with a new system - a little bit cold/warm MSI K7T pro Thunderbird 750 Coolermaster cooler Adaptec AHA2940AU (ultra) 2 x Infineon SDRAM 128 MB 133 / 2-2-2 ELSA Erazor x2 (Geforce256, DDR) Plextor 40x CD-Rom SCSI Yamaha 16/6/2 Burner SCSI Seagate 8 GB DAT streamer IBM Deskstar 75GXP, 30 GB 7200/UDMA100 CL SB Live player D-Link DFE530-TX NIC Logitech Cordless Mouseman pro DTK 300Watt PS uuuh...that´s it W2k pro VIA 4in1 x.25a Creative Liveware3 Office 2k premium Visual Studio 6.0 prof. SQL 7.0 Client Logitech Mouseware 9.0 Nvidia drivers 6.18 System seemed a bit unstable, hung three times during W2k setup - funny. Creative Liveware3 always tells me by an icon in the taskbar, there are new drivers / upgrades and when i go to 'update now' i get an error And 3D apps let me crash, 3Dmark within 2 minutes, even 3d screensavers. Haven´t tried something else of that kind yet I tried all memory settings, 100/2, 133/2, 100/3, 133/3, still...not crappy, but a little bit unstable. Any ideas about any of my concerns? Are there some special BIOS settings you would take care of? What about the new VIA drivers - good or bad remarks? Thanks for your advice and have fun Llion

    Epson 1200U perfection

I´ve got this scannre myself working everyday with it - never had the slightest problem with it. Maybe your´s is defective, i would try to use it on another computer for some days, possibly your system installation is the problem, so countercheck this! By the way: I am sure, you are using the latest driver from the EPSON Homepage ;-)?!?! Ver 10.a or something like that. Have fun Llion
