Hello alltogether, for some time now I´ve got quite bad network performance and sometimes even clear html code in my browser windows. (I am connected to the internet via a router). Where would you start looking for the problem? Any help would be appreciated Have fun Llion

nvidia 5.14 drivers, check the main page, they are on there.

Hello, where the hell did you find them????? Have fun Llion -------------------------- Forget about that - sometimes the REFRESH-button can offer miracles [auuuhhrrrgrrrnnn] Llion [This message has been edited by Llion (edited 15 April 2000).] -
Do you install those drivers as Administrator? If not, then do so. To me it sounds like a file or path permission problem (since W2k can read - otherwise you would not see the different device choices) Have fun Llion

Man, look around - these questions have been answered a million times before. In case you don´t know: The blue thing on the right top of the window that looks like 'search' (and that means 'look for something someone has asked or mentioned in this group before') if you drive your mouse over it and click with the left button on it there will another page open up - a little bit different than that one, but don´t be anxious. There you can enter the things you want to know, e.g. 'asus' or 'geforce' or, if you feel very brave, you can even try 'tv-out'.... Guys, it´s f.....g boring to answer the same stupid questions over and over again - just because you newbies are too ignoring and too lazy to search. Have fun Llion

Hello, everyone don´t be cross with me - but you guys seem simply unfair to me. I am in IT business myself, and I often see the results of that overclocking hype. There is such a lot of people trying to make an idiot of their dealers, overclocking and then giving the damaged part back as a warranty case. Did you ever think of the dealer / manufacturer? Imagine, someone manipulates YOUR well done work and then tries to sew you. The dealer has a lot of extra work to do (and the risk not to get the exchanged part replaced by the manufacturer) and the manufacturer has simply done good work and someone tries to sew him. Hmm..does this look OK?? If you think you have to o´clock your hardware and then it fails (although you knew about the risks - and don´t tell me you didn´t) then be man enough to face the fact that YOU and no one else has made a mistake and take the only fair consequence: you have to buy a new one (or let the old one get repaired). I also can´t ruin my kitchen knife cutting steel with it (if it´s not made for it) and then betray others to get it exchanged - at least not if I try to keep honest. Have fun Llion

Yes I am running W2k prof on a Toshiba Satellite pro 490 xcdt and it installs and works smoothly and without the slightest problems. Look through the Toshiba homepage, they have a section describing the functionality/probs of their notebooks under W2k for each model. (But you will have to search around for quite a while - at least I had to) Have fun Llion

Microtek SCSI-Scanners work perfectly under W2k. I just don´t know if this ist the same with their USB scanners. Though, I can recommend the SCSI versions strongly - they also have a great optical performance! have fun Llion

I am using the ELSA x2 and it is a great card. Gives a little bit more power then the Anihilator pro and the driver service of ELSA has always been one of the best around by far. They also had own (stable) beta drivers out before all the other vendors even thought of pubicating a link to the Nvidia beta drivers. I am quite happy with this card! Fine software package you will get, too. Though, if you are looking for TV in, I would rather propose the ASUS card or the Prophet! Llion

My system is running rock stable, no BSOD since I am using it (for over 4 months now) and since I am a SW develloper - beliefe me - I squeeze the poor guy hard! Llion

Best anti virus / trogin software for win2k server ???
Llion replied to jimbo jones's topic in Software
Simply use NAV 2000, it works great. This is especially interesting, because a lot of the other anti-virus products refuse installation on a server OS version. Mostly you have to buy a special (expensive) server-version. Have fun Llion -

I´ve worked with a lot of NIC in my life - 3Com has been superior, but that´s been quite a good time ago. Hardware is still OK, but support / drivers has become absolutely poor in the last 2 years. The only (not noname-)NICs that are giving us troubles with drivers and stability in the meantime are 3Com. DLink are fine, Ovislink are fine, Kingston are fine. And drivers you will get for any (not noname-)NIC. Have fun Llion

You have to remove a file called *CDNT.sys, (I think it is only CDNT.SYS, but have a look, it also might be NEROCDNT.SYS - you know, my Alzheimer desease :-)) for security scan it´s properties, in "version" you will find the develloping company. If it is Ahead, then rename or delete it. That will solve your problems Have fun Llion

I am working with a P2B-S and BIOS x.11 and I have the problem (well, if it is one) that 5 devices use the same IRQ (SCSI, NW card, USB hub, grafic card, and another one). I can´t say that it gives me probs, butI don´t like it and I am not 100 % convinced with the performance - NT 4.0 was a worked bit faster. Besides that everything does well, also the mentioned ACPI features Have fun Llion

Tried it, works without problems, as it seems! Good work, Ahead.

Hello alltogether, under http://www.hp.com/pond/ljbeta/win2k_software.html you will find the official W2k beta-driver site for HP printers (at least laserprinters). If I a page for DJ-Printers, I will post the address here Have fun Llion

Under W2k i have got the feeling that Netscape is very unstable and terrible slow. When I was working under NT, NS was my (by far) preferred browser - now it´s almost impossible to use it (I tried it under all releases and with fresh setups). I would be interested if anyone else noticed this, too. Have fun Llion

Since I´m not used to call people by their infantily fanta-sized intimate body parts, let me call you Mr. Short-Brain. We (if I may talk for all of us) are a community here to solve problems. A lot of people tries to help others. That sounds nice. But I think giving people names like 'idiot' won´t help anyone. If someone makes mistakes or tells wrong things, tell them. Show them, what you know better and share your knowledge. Or do you need that kick for your self-confidence, Mr. Short-Brain? Naming people that way is simply infantile (again we are at that point. By the way: how old are you???) Expressing my hope to keep up a grown-up discussion culture have fun Llion

Obviously your motherboard really doesn´t support you in your needs. I would expect that a BIOS update will solve this. What MOBO do you have? BIOS ver? W2k ver? Cmon guys, you also dont go to the doctor, say "I don´t feel well" and expect him to find out where, why how a.s.o. Pleeeeeaaaaase try to give hard data with your probs. It´s boring to always ask again and again. Have fun Llion

Hi, Since I have my own Hard- and Software business I see a lot of harddrives come and go. What I have seen the last 4 years, is that IBM HDs are OK, cheap, not the fastest, not the most quiet ones but overall quite good. They don´t have too many defects, but some. Quantum are - excuse me - awful. We don´t sell them any more - too much damages. They may be fast sometimes, but poor quality. Seagate: Getting better all the time. At the moment the best IDE drives you can get (look for 7200 Drives >20 GB). Fast, very reliable (only 2 defective ones in ~ 6000 pcs within 3 years!! That´s top) Maxtor: I read a lot of tests, the are alway told to be the best ones. Personally I can´t follow this at all! They are quite loud, not fast at all - though quite stable. WD: Nearly no experience. We had 4 or five from one series but they didn´t perform too well. But this doesnt mean anything at all!! Samsung: (yawn) Fujitsu: EIDE middle fast, very quiet, very few defects. SCSI loud but super-fast Of course you can´t tell from one or two or three drives you use by your own but since I see quite a bunch of drives over the years I can tell a little bit more (especially about the defect rate) Hope this helps a bit.
