Yes, I too wonder how to make this work, Dune 2 have so good sound and music!
-
Now pirate later buy this is best OS from microsoft, they have earned my money
-
made a animated pointer. it turned out cool so I decided to post here! go for download: http://home.c2i.net/aka_mecha/Timeglass.rar PS must be used in win2k with pointer shadow enabled

I can also report lockups, but have noticed they only happen when either 3d application or sonique play MP3. 3d application, every 3d game and sonique locks up computer/blue screen. G400 asus p2d-ds (late revision, no need for move resistor) 2x p3 500 win2k pro retail Im my case matrox has report it is graphics card drivers not stable on multitasking (2x cpu) environment.
-
the g400 crashes too after 10 minutes, but that's only when playing certain d3d games. bus mastering I've heard will fix this. do the ati xpert use busmastering or agp 2x try to lower that stuff. Usually it's a good thing to remove all hardware not needed for boot and see if the os still crashes. then put it back one by one.

isn't this that thing used in liveware 3.0?
-
This is bad news, I just bouhgt halflife apposing forces, and I really want to use it with EAx here in windows 2000 with my dual prosesors. Is there really no hope for me?

>But the 2 OS are direct it to 2 diferents >consumers. I know you can play DVD's On >Win2000, play games ,PNP ,etc, etc, etc. But >these OS is not address for entretaiment. >YOU ALL KNOW THAT! No, we don't know taht. win2k is an all-purpose OS, and if I can use it for those things , I will. >That will be what we ALL ever want it on >any MS Os. Win9x Gaming and Multimedia >Performance with the Power Of NT. Isn't that what already got with win2k? >Im testing Millennium and we are a few bugs >away to make this product almost perfect. Since the business section and cosnumer section just was merged, people predict the Millennium project will be closed. >The stability of this OS is away Much >better than any Win95/98/Se. I can tell you >that. that Don't say much. I've hear dabout all the new features and how buggy they are and how they screw up the system. not that I've tested the OS myself, though... >OH!! by the way since im testing millennium >i made the "CLASS OF 2000" of MS. >TOP 200 Beta testers these year. >So please.. Congratulate me!! Congcratulations For the win2k as not being an consumer OS, it already is and will become more and more used by consumers, or better described as the serious gamers. there a re plenty of different consumers out here, some will install win2k at home for work and some games for the kids, others will install it just to get quake3 use both their prosessors. No, win2k will not run all the games yet, the average computer out there is not fast enough to run it, but it's and incredible amount of games that already is able to work with current beta drivers so when Millennium pherhaps get release once, I belve win2k has matured enough to make it obsolete. Don't listen tho microsoft say win2k will not be for consumers, it's just so it wont get that toy-OS feel, we consumers have earned stability and reliability witho out gaming and dvd movies for a lond time now and with the evolution going so fast on the 3d accellerator front, we need a stable environment to develop drivers and games for it.

here, it too freezes everything whern it loads in the level (downloading level data or somthing) I have the g400 howevre, and the game is patched to latest versoin.
-
Same here, no sticks after 2195. the wheel work o.k. over here however...
-
it don't work here with the g400 either, build 2195 (eva copy), but I had it going with my old TNT so it's definately a driver thingie
-
It just might have been fixed in the 2195 eva copy, I haven't yet met the problem after two intense deathmatches. One today, and one yesterday hehe Anyway, you guys have USB mouse?
-
are you talking about things like... Quake3: I shoot and run around a lot, and then suddenly my machinegun continue to shoot even though I've released the mousebutton. If this is it, then I guess it's not a problem with the g400 drivers as I resently thought

SideNote: Concerning W2K vs 98 in gaming... I got some quest
antrant replied to JimmyK's topic in Hardware
I have the G400 and win2k, and two prosessors. When I use only one (r_smp 0) then the mousecursor has a 1 sec control lag, but when I enable both prosessors the control lag dissapear... The g400 drivers are very beta, but it is very interesting -
If that extra functionality compromises win2ks stability, imagine what it does in a 9x environment... hehehe
-
pherhaps that's what the dummy file "dsound.vxd" is supposed to fix?
-
How full is your HD, and is it defragged lately? You can probably tell if it "rumbles" your HD a lot, i.e moving the anchor fourth and back alot to allocate all those small fragments lying around

a top of that, I'm banned from windows2000. damn. --------------------------------- You had a error in it so I remove SHS try agine --------------------------------- [This message has been edited by SHS (edited 15 December 1999).]

Like Ronin, I too have major problems getting games to work in win2k. 3D games that is. 2D games work, all of them But not many 3D games. Ok, Unreal (not tournament) is as fast as in win98, but it freezes the computer within 1-2 minutes if I have fog enabled. Whe it's off, it crashes after 10 mins with pallette errors. Expendable do the same. Quake 3 is a joke, but Nocturne is actually playable eve though the polygons tend to flimmer. Mechwarrior 3 is perfect, but SS2 don't even start. Quake2 is crashing and Trickstyle aslo. But this is me using a G400 Max. And they don't have any good 3d drivers for win2k... with my old voodoo2 and tnt however, I could play all the above games with no problemo. (see my homepage) I bet, at the next driver release from Matrox, half of the above games that wasn't playable, will be. What I really hope is that the DOJ forces Micro$oft to lower win2k professional prices. Then we'll see some real NT kernel consumer action

I have three drives, two scsi one ide. I use one of the scsi drives for win2k, and reformat it everytime I install a new build of win2k. I have a program folder on another drive that contains some apps (games too) that don't need to be reinstalled. Works great.

memory errors, bad ram, hardware testers? WHAT THE HELL IS MY COMPUTER DOING EVERYTIME IT BOOTS UP THEN?!?!!? It tests the ram. one megabyte, two megabytes, three mebagytes all the way up to 192 (my current ammount). Then it's done, and moves on. Is this some kind of a bust? Is it a con? Something funny the engineers thought consumers would like to have on their bootup sessions? Alien technology man never understood? etc.. I remeber an old friend of mine used to laugh at how my brand new LX mainboard tested the RAM every time it booted up and called it "ancient technology, my Amiga 1200 don't do that HAH etc." So I just wonder... Is the always-there memory test at bootup actually useless? Just giving the owner lots of troubles when the last place he'll troubleshoot for errors is the RAM. Hey, it's tested at every boot, nothing is wrong with my RAM! uhm... get my drift?

You have pre-ordered one? Cool...
-
you all have the G400?
-
when idle, win2k give the cpu(s) a hlt command, which actually cools them down. win89 just let them idle with a regular instruction loop.
-
win2k handles that just fine. If you wanto be safe though, start device manager and uninstall the g400. more, the 5.00 drivers like rc3 best.
