I have a 120gb Maxtor drive and recently after a CD burn failed I checked the drive for bad sectors. Upon chkdsk completion the log displayed about 17mb in bad sectors. The other volumes are not displaying any bad sectors (yet). The price of HDs is not that much so it would not be a big hit to the wallet to replace it. Im just wondering if it would be wise to do it. I know as drives get worn they get more and more bad sectors, and the drive has a lot of reading/writing done to it. So questions: 1. Is 17mb a lot of bad sectors? 2. Should I replace the drive? 3. What can I do to prevent more bad sectors?

just got a new vid card and am trying to sell this one. If you live in the US I will pay shipping and the cost is $160 (open to adjustment within a few dollars). If you live in Canada the price is $150USD but you pay shipping. Post here or PM me if interested. All Instant messaging services listed in my profile are correct aswell if you want to contact me that way.

there is somthing that is defunct in your startup keys. This happens when you have a defunct program in there. I use Start Right from http://jackass.arsware.org/ this is a good program for managing your startup stuff and it will load them one at a time instead of everything at once like windows does by default.

I guess its kind of a moot point come next round of imaging programs since they are both owned by Symantec now. Anyway Im trying to find out what is better, Ghost or Drive Image 7? I have been a long time user of Drive Image but The Virtual Recovery Environment with 7 just takes FOREVER to load up. I don't want to have to wait 40 minutes to be able to restore an image, if I did then I would just reinstall the OS Anyway which program would you IT pro's recommend for a home product Drive Image 7 or Ghost 2003?

A/V that plays nice with multiple users? Looking for one

On some of the computers at a network I manage use NAV 2002. The problem with this is that it won't update virus defs, it won't run scans, it is pretty much useless unless im logged on as admin. Well I can only get there about once a week if that so I need an A/V program that will continue doing its job even when nobody is on. Here is what im looking for: 1. Not too big of a resource hog, these are not "top of the line" computers 2. HAS to play nice with multiple users even when nobody is logged on 3. All the standard A/V features (e-mail scanning, on access scanning, you know the basics) Any ideas? -
this is odd but it seems there are times when the game i play if I play it at high priority then it seems that my cable modem will sit there for like 30-45 seconds sometimes with the downstream light doing nothing and the upstream sits there and blinks. After that time everything is fine, then 10-15 minutes later it happens again. The game doesnt do this when i run it in normal mode. I would like to be able to run the game in high but if my modem keeps dropping packets then im not going to be able to

i found a cool work around. A command line program called process.exe will change the priority class of the program. All I had to do then was just set up a batch file calling process.exe to raise the priority of planetside.exe to high. The problem is that 2 different EXEs launch the game. There is the launchpad which is its own app, then that calls Planetside.exe so even if i launched launchpad at high planetside would still run normal. So I made a batch file and put in "process /high planetside.exe" and set it to the key combo ctl-alt-h so now when Im in game all I have to do is hit clt-alt-h and the priority raises to high from normal. Then to bring is back down again I just hit clt-shit-n and it brings it back down to normal.

thx for the replies. No its not system shock 2 its Planetside. Also this tool sets the processor affinity. Im not looking to run on one processor Im looking to run it at High Priority all the time.

I have a game that uses a launcher to load it and I was wondering if there was a way to set the priority of the program the launcher loads to high without having to alt-tab out and do it every time i load the game. I tried fooling with wintasks but can't get it to set the process to anything but RealTime. Any other ideas?

you might want to also look at a wireless solution if your having problems getting CAT5 cable to parts of your house.
