Biran is right, if he tries to boot in to XP using a drive that has different IDE controller drivers on there XP can't boot because the new IDE drivers will not load on startup. Also XP will give you an inaccessable boot device because there are no IDE drivers. I tried just replacing IDE drivers after i f-ed up my system using the VIA IDE miniport drivers and ended up having to go through a whole re-install to get it working. There is no way NT/2k/XP will recognize a new motherboard IDE controller without having that controller installed before installation, or during installation.

thats odd, you said that that is the only aspect of the card that does not work, everything plays fine besides that. Have you tried anything else to play movie files in besides WMP?
-
yeah i think you need a GeForce 4 or one of dem new fangled high-priced good video cards. Wait you have a GF4...hmm i dunno maybe the boys at EA/Westwood tech support might now. Or post on those forums.

Hmm i have seen this problem A LONG time ago with certain nVidia driver builds. Try the 23.11 signed drivers or Hercules drivers for your video card and see if those help. Also try playing the movies without sound to rule out the soundcard. If you have an old sound and video card around try swapping out your new ones with the old ones. So far we KNOW it is a hardware related issue. Now we just have to figure out what drivers are causing the problem. Also in the Startup and Recovery Options. Take off the Automatically Reboot option. That way when the BSOD comes up your computer won't reboot automatically letting you see what the specific error is.

make sure that the Morpheus files and directory are set to have your permissions. If they do not then any file you download using that POS program will be changed to the ghost user permissions, and you will have to reset all of them.

Yeah if you want just your Mixer settings to control the sound then uncheck the "Enable Volume Control" or whatever it is in WinAmp. That way your mixer will take full control of the current running sound app not the app itself.

Well from the sound of the original poster it sounded like a driver issue. That or a codec, issue. Other than uninstalling things and reinstalling or a reformat then im not sure. Your best bet is to reformat and try and recreate the problem or uninstalling anything you have recently installed or tweaked.

Ok, i have a problem i think is due to BIOS not sure though. I have pulled everything, and tested the processor in another computer all work. Now when i turn on this box, everything comes on like it is going to boot then it won't even beep like it normally does after it posts.

Yeah i tried shorting the CMOS jumper, and it didn't do anything. He probably got a Virus, because he goes to stupid non-reputable sites and downloads all sorts of crap, and doesnt even run a Virus scanner. Then again kicking your computer doesnt help all the much either.

The new version of the IntelliMice, 2.0 are very nice. I was checking one out in Best Buy the other day and they are real nice. I have the old 1.0 version and it rules. Also if your going to get a mousepad for the mouse get a RatPadz (www.ratpadz.com), it is the best mousing surface known to man. Plus with some teflon tape mouse feet you can make that thing fly across the surface of the pad. So in order to game right you need the following things: IntelliMouse Explorer 2.0 ~ $50USD RatPadz ~ $20 USD Teflon Tape ~ $5 USD @ K-Mart.

Cool, i can't wait to get a GeForce 4, it is one of the biggest leaps in Graphics architecture in a while. Now if they could only sell em cheaper.

WinXP CDRW Software - Thoughts/Recommendations needed

Its not Ahead's fault 1.3 CDs are not compatible with 2.0 InCD created CDs. It is the new UDF file format, 1.5. It is that format that is incompatible with 1.3, so its not Ahead's fault it is the way the UDF file format is. -
It is not a problem with XP but more IE 6. M$ even admitted this. They said the last security patch for IE 6 made it unstable and prone to crashing, but they elminated the security threat...by not even allowing you to run IE LOL.

anyone how to load the nview utility that comes with the 27.42 drivers on startup?
-
Ok this is gonna sound kinda odd but i don't know of any other way to put it. The 'fancy' type of search with all the cutsey Windows XP buttons and the search assistant have gone walk-about. I don't know what happened to it, its just not there anymore. Not like i care searches still perform the same i just would like to know for an FYI on how to do this?
-
I found out how to fix it, there is a setting in TweakUI for XP that allows you to en/disable "classic" search in XP. My bad, 9 times out of 10 when something f-s up it is due to some stupid tweak i did.

Sounds like it is a firmware problem with the Plextor Drive. I would contact Plextor with this problem, include both yours and your brothers system specs when writing to them too. I have had no problems burning from my Sony burner and having those CDs being read in my DVD-ROM drive. So it sounds like a firmware issue with the plextor drive you have.

BIOS is most likely gone. I have reseated everything, and i made sure i reconnected all the connectors right, and still everything spins up fans and all but no power to the monitor. I don't even get a beep, i made sure the speaker worked. I still get no beeps no nothing. Sooo im thinking that the BIOS is dead. Which is odd because the same thing happened on his old board... If i get the chance i will switch the BIOS on his board and my board out and see...
-
Im not getting beeps but i will **** with the PC speaker. I think i also have a PCI video card around here someplace. This is what happens, all the power stuff is connected, PC's drives and everything spin up, fans and all. HD light stays on solid, and nothing beeps or is displayed on my screen. Ive tried seeing if it was that the CPU fan wasnt on FAN2 but i tried that and FAN1 and neither work. Im going to take everything out and reseat it all and see if i can't find any problems with connections.
-
system specs are similar except for the video card which is a gf2 64meg. it was working before but my friend kicked it when he was drunk and doesnt know what happened to it because it wasnt working the next day. I will pull the battery out and the power and leave it and see

damn man you mind setting up some pubs and dedicated gaming servers i know lots of people that could use that bandwith real quick on ya.
-
How are the VIA IDE drivers, last time i installed them they for some reason wouldnt let my HollyWood+ read my DVD drive to decode from.

I DO NOT recommend setting services to disabled, whoever wrote that is an idiot. The only service that should be disabled is the Universal PnP service because of the security hole it posses. Set service to random, but make sure you write down or take a screen shot of what was and wasn't running before you change them.
