This is kinda off topic, but Im not a big fan of ghost, as compared to Drive Copy/Deploy Center. With deploy center i ghosted my drive without making any boot disks, then all i needed to do was boot of the CD. When i used ghost i had to go through a ***** of a time to get a ZIP drive to work, but it was external and LPT *ugh people and old hardware, why can't everyone be computer enthousiasts*. Ghost though is still a good program and has saved my *** a lot of times.

Dont listen to Four and Twenty If your looking for Athlon XP then go with the Abit-KR7a-133RAID, this is a sweet board for AMD systems If your looking for P4 then go with the Asus DDR ram P4 chipset board. You can't go wrong with the stability of a P4 and Intel chipset. However you will end up paying for the Intel name, over the cheapness of the AMD systems. As for DDR Ram, it is high now and will stay high for a while, all RAM is actually quite high right now, and might be going up so since this is a major system component, i would hold off on the system purchase until RAM starts coming down again. Also if your going to buy RAM make sure that all the RAM in the system is all from the same vendor. Ive tried mixing Kingston and Crucial and my board didnt like it much. I recommend Kingston and Crucial for RAM though, Kingston likes to overclock more than Crucial does though unless your getting CAS2 RAM. Companies to go with: Intel: Asus Kingston or Crucial AMD: Abit Kingston or Crucial I recommend abit because ive never had a single problem with my Kt7a. Ive also never had a problem with an Asus board.

make sure that you run Word At least once on the admin account so it populates the shortcuts and word installs. Also make sure that his security settings are high enough to be able to run the program.

Im looking to ditch my 60gb 5400rpm/ata100 drive in for something large (80gb+) and with ATA/133 support. What are some good drive recomendations from the users?? Ive looked at Western Digital since i would like to go with them again since both my drives are both WD drives. Also looked at maxtor since they make some good solid drives. Im not fond of IBM drives so not looking for a drive by them.

I dont know if the problem is with IIS or with my remote software for Windows Media Encoder. Anyway when i connect to my computer to try and start the encoder whenever one of the ASP pages load up i get an "object not found" box then nothing works right. Is this an error with the crappy MS default pages or is it something to do with IIS?
-
cool thx for the info, i will do that and see what it comes up with.
-
hmm i guess i will wait on it for a bit then and see who promotes what. Not many people are putting it as a standard on motherboards either besides Abit, and a few others.

too much math in engineering for me. I ditched it for Management Information systems.

GeForce 4 MX 420 PCI? (not a thread about the "GF4 MX&q
ThC 129 replied to ConQueso's topic in Hardware
I would say no they won't. Not many vid card manufacturers want to invest money in a PCI line because it has a negative return. -
I was wondering what packet writing software works for XP?? Does DirectCD work yet?? I know the UDF file format in Nero works, but is this like DirectCD? Can i write directly to and from the CD like it was a floppy after i burn it using Nero's UDF format?

yeah the new version came out the day after i made my initial post.

Best way to do a "clean" install for my new SB Aud

How do i serve windows media files is it like shoutcast or what?? Im looking to do something like shoutcast. Or does anyone know how to get shoutcast to work through a browser?? The reason i ask is because my proxy is a ***** and won't let me access any shoutcast stations but will let me access windows media ones.
-
thanks for all the info guys. I knew that i couldnt listen to shoutcast due to my proxy. I can always f with a shoutcast server to make it stream through 80, but anyway i will check out the links and see what i cant find.

from all the reviews ive seen of it, the card performs just under a GeForce 3 Ti 500. It all depends on what games you want to be playing on it too.

Im selling my board and RAM to a friend that only has a mesley celery 466. Then Im going to get the Abit KR7a-133RAID.
-
it will only work if you have WinOn CD installed to update to that version of Direct CD. I like the new XP compatible version of InCD better anyway the 5.10 version of Direct CD doesnt like my CD player.

Quote: A while back on NTCompatible I found a program that let you uninstall/install everything on xp. Now this included letting me actually uninstall windows messager and other little shitty things that I could always remove in 9x. Now being months later I dont have those links. I think your talking about editing your sysoc.inf open up this file. It is in your Windows\Inf directory, then change all the words HIDE to nothing. Then you can un/install more stuff.

Depends really on the encoder, ive seen encoders that lose very little in the encoding process and ive seen other ones, musicmatch for instance that really suck at converting files and not losing quality. It all comes down to the compression logarithm more than anything in the end.

Many programs are like that, FlashFXP is another that my custom workaround works on. Most programmers forget to check the date after the program initialises for the 1st time.

the reason my post was edited was because i posted a 'work-around' to the 30 day time limit on StyleXP. So the post itself was fine, it was just the fact that i told people how to get around the 30 day expiry on StyleXP, that was what made the mods edit it.

It depends on the game, and the API. Ive seen many games redraw very slow when exiting especially when exiting. It also depends on the programs you are running too, and what they have to render. You have to remeber that IE on average uses up about 20-30 megs of RAM, Explorer uses on average another 20-30, gamespy arcade around 10, ICQ/AIM/etc, use about another 5-10, mIRC around the same. So already without even including what the kernal and system processes are taking up we are already using up around 100 megs of RAM. So now you load up a game on top of those, that game will use between 60-100 megs of RAM, so while your running the game your pushing the upper limits of your RAM, and causing many processes to be paged to disk. Now once we exit the game all this free space is available, so the OS takes everything that was paged on disk and moves it back into RAM. So in the end it looks like it is the amount of programs your running at the same time, the amount of RAM you have and the UDMA/66 limit on your hard disk. So your most logical upgrade would be a 512 stick of PC2100 DDR ram, or buy a new KR7A-133RAID and some ATA/133 Hard drives

thx for the info people i might have to finagle a copy of DOT Net server when i get my new box built here. It will be nice to see what the next round of enterprise servers will be running. Hmm with the release of a great consumer OS, and now a great Server side OS, all we need now is a good non-bloated workstation OS. XP Pro is nice but too 'nice' for me. And 2k seems too old fashioned after using XP, hmm Longhorn or Blackcomb maybe?

its kinda long, but its nice to have people post all their system specs and related devices so that the information is there. I work tech support for a living and i know how much of a pain in the *** it is when im trying to help people out or answer and e-mail and all people write is. My stuff isnt working!!
