ive read there is a problem with UDMA 66 on XP. I think tweakXP has an option to enable it. As for the 4in1 question, the only drivers really needed are the AGP drivers, which you can install by running the setup in Windows 2000 compatability mode, which is done by right clicking on the installer selecting properties, compatability tab, then win2k.

The problem is that most people own a box that is around 400mHZ or so. if you want to talk about legacy how about floppy drives. I know i run out to CompUSA every week to pick up a 50 pack of floppies. XP will not make the splash M$ hopes it to be, most people are happy with their old boxes because they do nothing more than play solitaire, surf the net and write a few word documents. The era of the PC being the end all to everything and integrating everything into it is over. You see things like play stations coming out with internet capabilities, and DVD drives. So we are getting more into an era of Applicances that do the same task as what PCs are used for. Yes you are still going to get people that prefer what a PC will do as compared to an play station or something of that nature, but your average person uses a computer for nothing more than a glorified typewritter because they are not saavy enough to realise that the PC can be used as a platform for many things. So the only people that are going to still use PCs in the home in the next few years are nerds and PC gamers. Otherwise people are going to get something like the X-box for their kid and use that to play games, then they will get Stereo with Mp3 capabilities to play music, or a home DVD player. The age where the PC is being used for everything is just not feasable.

MSN messenger has been replaced by Windows Messenger, a more powerful version of MSN messenger.

i have said this before and i will say it again. If you are using 2k and you have to pay for software it isn't even worth it to get XP, the price of an upgrade isnt even worth it. XP is a great OS, but at the same time it doesnt offer much over 2k when it comes to things, the only reason i use XP is because of remote desktop connection, and a few other things that are cosmetic. I also got XP for a discount so it was worth it to upgrade for me. If your using a 9x OS then the XP path is good otherwise its not really that viable an option unless you need some of the features for business use.

i can't get the demo to work it gives me some bullshit about 75 hz refresh. EDIT i f-ed up i forgot i had to reboot to get the refresh fix working =/

Man people really need to do their homework before they buy creative's crap products. Everyone ive talked to using a VIA/686( chipset with a creative card has had nothing but problems, you would think with this new card...well its not new I forgot its just another SB Live! with some new crap added so people will buy it. Just stay away from creative and get a Santa Cruz or something that performs better than creative's crap. Turtle Beach already has working XP WDM drivers for the SC, and Creative probably won't release XP drivers until 4 years after XPs store release.

There is a lesson to be learned here. Don't buy products from **** companies such as 3dFX. People that didnt know 3dFX was going under were living in a dream world, after they pulled all their products from manufacturers this was a sign the company was losing money. So i have no sympathy for people that want old hardware from a dead company to work on a new OS. So you can cry me a river all you want because i don't care.

EasyCD sucks get a better writing program than this sub-par piece of crap.

ntgameman you got ripped hardcore. The TNT 2 Ultra is very old and well kinda crappy. You wouldve been better off getting a GeForce 1 or GeForce 2 MX or something for around the same price. And i know im not your dad but dude if your 18 and you have some spare time, i think you do kinda need to get a job. When i was 18 i didn't mooch off my parents, they didn't pay for any of my computer stuff so i had to get a job. I think you need to save them some cash and get a job.

there is no differnce between that version and the devilsown version. The crcs are the same, just some stupid group trying to take the spotlight away from Devils0wn

When i right click on a file there isnt a security tab like there was in win2k. Anyone know how to get this to come up or where to change the permissions users have on files?
-
ah merci, i like XP but this ****ing simplicity of it is driving me crazy sometimes.

i use Tiny Software's tiny firewall. It works good and blocks incoming and out going traffic.

Anyone know how to get better refresh rates with Det 4's?? Nvrefresh doesnt work anymore. I tried using manually registry entries but they didnt seem to work either

is AGP 4x enabled in your BIOS?? Other than that i don't know what to tell you.

BF is right. And anyway 3dFX caused their own demise by trying to take the manufacturing and card making process in-house. By ditching their vendors, 3dFX started losing money and couldn't produce cards that would be on-par with those of nvidia. By time the Voodoo 5 came out 3dFX was a generation behind when it came to video card technology. So you have your company losing money, so what do you do lay off some people. Well that didn't work, so 3dFX is still losing money. What do they do now?? Easy sell or die. So nvidia is like I dont need the hassle of all your products to support we just want some of the tech you use in your video cards. So nvidia bought the technology to 3dFX and 3dFX had some more money. Well at this point in the game 3dFX had pretty much lost so they closed up shop, cut their losses and went on. Do you hear people whining that creative doesnt support Aureal?? No, but they did buy out Aureal and all their technology. This is the way the world works, why take the things that are dragging a company down when you can take their propriatary technologies and use them for your own good giving you bigger profits. So you whiney people that were stupid enough to buy a 3dFX card well thats your own fault. Also any video card over 4 months is outdated anyway, so you are asking for support for outdated technology, which is a waste of assets to do.

cool thx for the info i will look into it.

no XP doesnt have the 4.05c drivers. Also to install it you have to run it in 2k comptability mode. Also i found this out too. VIA chipsets DO NOT enable AGP 4x by default I dont know why sounds pretty f-in stupid to me. Also all new registry values use NV not NV4 like the old ones do. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\nv\Device0 "EnableVia4X"=dword:00000001

In case you didnt read which it looks like you didnt, nvrefresh doesnt work anymore. Also the program won't ever work because its not being updated or supported anymore. Thx for the inf hack trick i will have to try it.
-
try using IPX as a networking protocal too.
-
I would say you do not. Though it probably doenst hurt to do it
-
have you tried installing the 4.05c agp driver?
