2 things 1st NEVER disable a service, set it to manual unless you KNOW you won't need it. 2nd here is a list of services you can disable in 2k safely a lot of these are in XP so if something isnt in the list re-enable it and it should fix your problem. As for what services do what most of them say in the properties box of the service Services: Alerter Com+ Diskeeper (if not running, no point in enabling it) Application Management Clipbook Computer Browser Distributed Link Client Distributed Transaction Coordinator Fax Service (if not faxing, why run it? Spooler must be running also to use Fax programs that open the port it's tuned to like a printer printing to a file!) Indexing Service Internet Connection Sharing Logical Disk Manager Administrative Service Messenger Net Logon NetMeeting Remote Desktop Sharing Service Network DDE Network DDE DSDM NT LM Security Support Provider Performance Logs & Alerts Print Spooler (unless printing or faxing) QoS RSVP Service Remote Access Auto Connection Manager (I use cablemodem is why...) Remote Access Connection Manager (I use cablemodem is why...) Remote Procedure call RPC Locator Remote Registry Service (LOL, obvious! Security) Routing & Remote Access (not doing RAS) Server SmartCard SmartCardHelper System Event Notification Service Task Scheduler (not running any batch processes) Telnet (gee, wonder why?? Security!) Uninterruptible Power Supply (dont use one now... battery died!) Utility Manager Windows Installer Windows Time

the Live! series of cards work good, but who knows how long it will take creative to make a complete Gay!ware package for XP. I have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz and it works great with the new beta XP drivers they have come out with.

i know this is waaaaayyyy of subject but anyway. I have no problem with people smoking weed at all, i used to do it for 5 years and i still would if this damn country didnt consider it such a 'drug', kinda funny how you can be a damn drunk and get hired for a job but if you smoke weed you can't even get hired because of drug tests. IMO i would rather see a pot head than a drunk working for me, a bad pot head might be a little slow and not pay much attention to thing but a drunk is much worse than a pothead. Pot doesnt impair motor skills that badly where alcohol will and is much worse on a job site.

Stupid MS, Quicktime used to work. But now its magically broken again. Coincidence?? No, of course not. Whenever a new build of XP comes out it seems Quicktime magically breaks. Stupid MS anti-apple BS.

cool thanks for the update. I didnt see on their site that it said it works with the nt5.1 file system though. Guess i will have to try it and see.

I have 4.03 of EZCD creator. i go to make an audio CD and point it to the dir where my mp3s are and it says there are no audio files, i drag and drop the mp3 there and it says its not a valid audio file. Just wondering if anyone has encountered this problem? If not looks like a reinstall of gaycd creator is gonna happen unless there is a better cd burning program to change the fade-in and outs of track times.

I was looking around today and saw that newegg.com had 256mb of PC-2100 and PC-133 for $37 USD and with $7 shipping on the PC133 and $5 on the PC-2100 you can't go wrong.

Anyone know where i can find this program Im getting sick of looking at the default UI no matter what colors i use.

try newer sb live drivers. Im sure someone here has a link or just search for them, and try the VIA PFD fix for Sb Live!s and VIA mobos. As for 4in1s they are crap, the only thing you need to install is the 4.05c AGP driver. Im using det 12.90s and they run fine in XP, the 12.41 WHQL drivers work fine too.

with smartdrive file copying = 10 seconds without smartdrive file copying = 10 minutes guesstamated figures but smartdrv does speed up DOS installs by a long shot.

yeah its nice not to have that high-pitched screetching when i load up windows now. YAY!!!! GOOD DRIVERS FOR THIS CARD :D:D

'easy installing' uhh i dont know what your talking about. Ive used XP from the begining when the pre-beta 1 builds were out, and as long as my hardware is configured right its always been faster and more responsive than 2k is. Not to mention a lot of the feature upgrades and things. If XP isnt stable for you its most likely due to bad hardware config. Im never going back to 2k, it would be like going from Windows 2k to Windows 3.11. XP has always done what i asked it to and more.

its a great game but it is too damn buggy. If your getting UE errors, try to reinstall from scratch. Tribes 2 can be gay sometimes when patch from a non-clean version.

i dont have officeXP installed but by the sound of it it sounds like you have a trojen on your computer. Ive heard that some of the versions distributed around the net have included trojens in them.

Windows XP has a lot of improvments in compatability one of the most noteable is the SxS feature of drivers. Im not going to get into a lot of details but basically if an old program likes its own version of a dll then XP will run that and keep the newer XP driver too. This goes a long way in stability of the OS.

the SantaCruz is a nice card because it even has beta drivers for XP out now too. This is a great effort on that company to show that they are willing to support any OS as long as its feature complete, and its great to have working EAX in XP.

I would like to make this post to thank SHS and Philip for their ongoing support for this site and these forums. I would also like to thank the users on these forums for helping others and making the world a safer place for NTCompatible products.

WinXP is based on windows 2000 which means it runs best on NTFS not FAT32.

Wuhoo Turtle beach has come out with SantaCruz Drivers for XP. No more sound problems for me. Hopefully some people will come out with drivers for their cards now that RC1 is out.

i havent had any problems with quicktime in XP. Ive used it since XP was in pre-beta stages and its worked fine.

not a bad price for micron too. Only thing is non-standard shipping prices, most places like that have low prices then hit you with shipping. Thats what i like about newegg, they have standard shipping rates on everything and you can see the shipping price before you even checkout. Everyone has their faves though, and newegg is mine because 3 day shipping turns into 2 day shipping when you live in the same city as the FedEx HUB.

wow this is an old topic. I don't use PooPoo CD Creator anymore, i use nero. It runs better in normal priority than PooPoo CD Creator does in High.
-
4.7 beta is running fine on my system. As for memory leaks i will monitor it today and see if im getting the same problem.

Via 4n1's 4.32 Final and Nero 5.5... One or the other?
ThC 129 replied to Bennybone's topic in Software
the problem is VIA's poo poo IDE drivers it seems like. If you install anything just install the AGP drivers and IRQ handling driver. Anything else made by VIA is poop. If you use any VIA IDE drivers use the stand alone 580_3011 VIA UltraDMA BM Drivers. They are on viahardware.com, and work well in 2k. What are your system specs too??
