if your looking for Dual Athlons I recommend waiting until the Athlon 4 workstation chips come out and get some of those.

Is the KYRO II video card any good mainly under win2k ?

yeah customer support like that is hard to find now. Its great to see some companies still care more about their customers than making a buck. -
the only game that i have heard that supports SMP is quake 3. Im sure there are others and with the release of XP soon hopefully more people will make SMP games.

i used to be an EZ cd creator fan but now i use nero all the way. Funny thing is that CDrwin and EZCd both run at high priority by default but nero runs in normal, and know what ive never burned a coaster with nero at all. Plus unlike EZCD which ALWAYS copies the tracks to the HD then burns it, nero won't. EZ CD Creator 5 has one nice feature i like and that is the mp3 cd feature other than that ez cd is a POS.

ahh one of my favorite past times nothing like getting f-ed up while windows installs.

CD-RW: Plextor or Sony drives are good. Monitor: Depending on price your willing to pay: High end: Anything Sony Mid to low-end: Viewsonic makes a damn good product so does samsung. Soundcard: Sound Blaster Live!, SantaCruz or Hercules Gametheater XP the reason i said not a GF3 is price wise, IMO the price for a GF 3 is too high when most people upgrade their video cards every 6months to 1 to 2 years. Speakers: I dunno i listen to headphones but Altec Lansing has always made a great set of speakers IMO. -

DO NOT BUY A KYROII. This is why, any new games that come out that use any form of Transform and Lighting will perform VERY VERY VERY POORLY like TNT2 Ultra poorly. The problem is because this card does not have a hardware transform and lighting unit like nvidia cards have. So any game that uses DirectX 8 and Transform and lighting (anything coming out within the next year) will perform like poo on the kyroii. Your best bet for a video card is a GeForce 2 Pro or higher. With the Geforce 3 Ultras coming out soon i would recommend getting a Geforce 2 pro or GF2 ultra because they will be cheap soon. -
must be you, every build ive used since 2465 has gotten better and better. You also must expect problems like installers not working and 3d apps not working because it is a beta, and yes it is a damn good beta and is 10x better than 2k was at this stage but it is still a beta so problems will arise, it is part of the process.

yeah i had a similar problem not sure where in the install i think its just after it reads the components and then starts setup, my screen goes black and just sits there. I took out my GF 2 and put in my TNT and everything was fine.

try the newest BIOS for your HighPoint too.

I dunno if its me but i don't find that smart tags will steer me to a specific site. I mean all the time you hear about this thing in windows or that one will make you go to someplace as if you are doing it without thinking. I dunno i think that smart tags if deployed right by something can be really useful and informative. Too much anti-MS setiment i read lately. Half the people are hypocrites anyway (f-in ZDnet for example, they have the most hypocritical writers ive ever seen). **** how about instead of using their brains to complain about MS do something to combat them. If you make a better product people will buy it.

2485 is better and faster than any other build ive used so far. Not much change over 81 but bug fixes and performance improvments of course.

you can overwrite the current version in the setup directory of NAV. Otherwise when you install NAV don't enable real-time protection until after you install symevent.

XP home users have remote assistance but they DO NOT have remote desktop. At least this was the latest line i heard and one of the reasons i didn't want per as opposed to pro. So home users can help others but they can't use another computer to fully control their box from another location (remote desktop)

try changing your AGP ratio, the problem could be that the video card is getting too much power.

Anyone know the diff between the 2 new DT drivers? (12.41 an
ThC 129 replied to Mike Zamarocy's topic in Hardware
I use the 12.60dets and they give me the BEST performance out of any driver to date. I don't benchmark crap because of 2 reasons. I don't play D3D games because its a crappy API so i don't use 3dm2k1 to benchmark. I also never play games with super mega ultra high detail so you can only play in 640x800 if you do. So my results wouldnt be the same. Also if the 12.40s have the problems you mentioned they wouldn't be WHQL certified into the 12.41s. Looks like you need to reevaluate your system. -
2 things 1. Get the 4.05c AGP driver from VIAhardware.com 2. Get the standalone 508_3011.exe Busmastering Drivers from there as well. As most people know VIA can't make a southbridge for crap so you need to use the IDE BM drivers mentioned above to get better performance.

try this http://www.ntcompatible.com/cgi-bin/files/pickem.cgi?comprfd

yeah eddie is using that forged copy of XP sp those arent real screen shots.

oh i read the FAQ wrong and got mixed up. Its you can't upgrade 2k to home version. Sheesh stupid uprade paths.
-
Readons suck under 2k. That is why.
-
You can't install XP Pro over Windows ME. Should read some FAQs 1st. The only way to install XP pro in upgrade mode is over a existing NT install or a 9x install. No ME installs are excepted as an upgrade path to pro (probably because it would make XP unstable LOL). Of course you can format the partition and then you can install it clean. 8)

thats the problem with betas. Its probably a build related bug and will be fixed in the next build. My guess is that the MSI installer doesn't work in 2475. Your not the only person ive heard having a problem like this.

last time it kinda worked under win2k compatability mode, that was under 2465.
