Guys since Napster is going subscription, any good competito

reguardless of what your supposed to be able to hear and what you can't i can easily tell the difference between a 128/44 and a 192/44 compressed Mp3. All i listen to is Trance/Dance music and you can easily tell the difference in the sound quality of the music. As for reproduction at higher quality that is why you use the Radium Fraunhaufer codec, it is the best Mp3 codec you can get right now. -
hmm odd i have no problems at all with my H+. It has worked fine ever since they came out with the new drivers for it. Hell it has worked fine since they came out with the beta drivers for it way back when windows was in RCs

Do you have to be a official beta tester to report bugs?
ThC 129 replied to Questionnaire's topic in Hardware
yeah they really need to get rid of those bugs. Man the last time i had one of those in my system i couldnt figure it out but then I got some RAID and the bugs disappeared (yeah i know bad pun but still ) -
the thing is that unless your using the UDMA100 fix for win2k your not gonna get ATA-100 working. It might say it is but it will only run at ATA66

Hey guys, what do you think could be improved on Win2k?
ThC 129 replied to pr-man's topic in Software
i would also like to see better refresh rate support. It is a pain for people that don't have nvidia cards so they can't use the nvrefresh fix or they have to edit the registry themselves. I would also like to see a built in firewall with advanced features such as port mapping and NAT not the poo poo one in whistler right now. Also a remote access feature would be nice so the need for 3rd party programs isnt needed. And lastly a more robust install program allowing more direct customisation of the things you want to install and the things you don't in the install program. There is too much crap installed by defualt and it would be nice to be able to take out a lot of the crap, like IE for people that don't use it. -

Yeah there is a program its called IRC, learn to use it like all the other people that have been getting Mp3s before Gayster even came out. There are also programs like audiogalaxy (www.audiogalaxy.com) plus others too im sure. Or just get Napigator which will connect you to free OpenNap servers rather than the regular napster ones. You can get napigator probably from download.com or just do a search for it. -

its not a big deal anymore i just sold the 128 to my friend for 50 bucks since he needed some more RAM. So now i just have 256 instead of 384 no big deal i don't notice the diff. -
DOSFreak didnt make that guide its been around since RCs of Windows 2000. As for IE 6, im sure it is possible if you can get a beta version of it then go and extract the files then overwrite them in the corresponding directories in 2k.

I took out my PC100 chip and now everything is fine. The PC100 chip was made before PC133 was even in existence so it was probably not compatible with the PC133 chip i put in. I havent had a problem at all after taking out the PC100. -

thanks for the replys peoeple i guess this board still can get things done when needed I was told that mixing PC100 and PC133 wasnt a big deal guess i was wrong. I will try everything you suggested and report back. Thanks again everyone. -
cool cool. I look forward to running it when it comes out. Maybe the Hollywood+ issue might be fixed but probably not.

Well have you gotten the newest 4in1 drivers and the AMD/VIA fix from MS? Also as for FPS performance have you downloaded the nv refresh rate fix for 2k? Also use newer drivers than the 6.18 drivers sheesh those are almost 6-8 months old. Other than those recommendations i don't know what to tell ya.

yes nvidia has released 7.xx drivers. They are just not public release because they don't want to support drivers that might have problems. So they just leak betas that way they can say 'hey its a beta so we don't have to support it' -

damn that sucks. Anyway to test the chip to see if it is failing or not. Maybe that is why they offloaded it for so cheap. -
DVD station wont work. Im not sure if hardware decoding works or not because i havent seen any other DVD programs that do hardware decoding through that card besides the one they have. Anything past 2256 the card won't work end of story.

ugh i hated 6.67 they didnt even work with my monitor right. I changed the driver to my monitor and it still had resolutions not supported by it. I threw on 7.17 and it was fine. So im sticking with the 7.17 drivers since i really don't play games and they work fine for me.

also make sure you are not using direct sound recording. I had a similar problem until i used wav recording not direct sound recording and it was fine after i switched.

What is the best program for burning music cds for Win2k?
ThC 129 replied to pr-man's topic in Software
you people must not listen to trance music or any type or rave/dance/electronic music or else you would use ezcd 4 because nero doesnt allow you to crossfade tracks like ezcd4 does. Its also easier to use than nero, i like nero but its too much of a PITA to use sometimes. -
What is the best program for burning music cds for Win2k?
ThC 129 replied to pr-man's topic in Software
EZ cd 4 can direct burn mp3z without decoding them. EZ cd 4 will also allow you to crossfade tracks and change fade-in/fade-out levels. no other audio burning program ive seen to date does this. So i recommend EZ CD creator 4.03 -
if there is crackling using the regular drivers that come with 2k i think they would work on a 5.1 since its essentially the same card...other than the default MS win2k drivers and creatives drivers there isnt much that can be done to stop it crackling. So just try one or the other drivers and see if they help otherwise we are waiting for creative to release drivers sometime in the next millenium. By time like Blackcomb is in the final RCs we might see new and better sb drivers.
-
your system looks fine man. As people have said yes use NTFS its better in the long run for a 2k install. The creative modem should work find because my friend has a modemblaster ISA and it works in 2k and it even HAD drivers on the CD!! Other than that i don't think there is anything else i can think of. Good luck in 2k.
-
pretty much all the reasons above. I cant think of any new ones except for when whistler comes out that that the skinning is a big plus.

My WInnt is 1.0g including DLLcache and Sp1 files and whatnot
