yeah they are kinda different. One is a fantasy RTS, the other is a modern war RTS. Now if you were to compare something like Generals to say Real War: Rogue States. I would say generals. Otherwise i dont know which is better.

i picked up an Antec TP 400Watt PSU the other day and my system seems to run a little bit more stable with it. So you are always better getting about 100W more than you need at the time so you can add things to your case/board.

I got a A7n8x deluxe. Best board i have seen on the market: (2) Serial ATA (6) USB (2) IEEE 1394 Dual LAN - Realtek 10/100 and 3Com Gigabit Ethernet Onboard 6-speaker sound, most boards only come with 2 Digital Decoding (probably will never use it but its nice to have) It is a little bit more pricey but hell for that many USB and Dual LAN with Gigabit ethernet is a damn nice setup.

there is no competition between ATi's cards and nVidia's. It seems that ATi has taken the crown and is unrelenting in giving it up. While nVidia is working on a video card that will beat the 9700 so is ATi. One market ATI is still untouched in is the All-In-Wonder line. No NV cards have the ability to decode TV and function as a video card at the same time. I bought my 9500 and a A7n8x Deluxe and I am 100% pleased with this setup. nVidia might learn something about business and how to make good cards if they sold their own reference boards. Now that Visiontek and MSI are making cards for ATi what is nvidia going to do, concentrate on new players to the game like BFG, and PNY or will they finally start selling reference boards to try and get some more income in?? Time will tell my friends but ATI has made me a loyal consumer.

the reason i use a Ratpadz over any other mousing surface 1. The Ratpadz is hard as hell, you can throw this up against a wall and it wont break. 2. It is countoured for mice, so you get a better mousing surface; more [space] in the middle less around the outsides. 3. Optical mice drag against most other mousing surfaces making the preciceness needed to make the snipe or kill you need not happening. 4. Ratpadz are designed for optical mice. I have used my ratpadz on regular mice and optical mice and the optical glides across the surface with NO effort, i just tap it and it will move across the surface effortlessly. 5. Easy to clean. Oh crud i spilled soda on my mouse pad, oh well just get out the bounty paper towels and wipe it up. 6. Price, they are only $20, now you might say that is a high price to pay for a mouse pad, well this isnt a mouse pad its a mousing surface they are different. Once you use a ratpadz you will never think about using another mousing surface again. Case closed, if you dont have a ratpadz you dont have shit.

i like sygate better. I have used both and I think sygate is the best. I have used Kerio PF Tiny PF (same thing as Kerio isnt it??) Norton Internet Security PortsBlock (not really a firewall persay) XP Firewall Sygate PF Sygate comes out on top for me.

my CPU is a AMD T-bird 1.33 @ 133x10.5 (1.4), I have 768mb of PC133 SDRAM. Ansio and AntiAliasing are on app preference. Everything is right CAS timings all the BIOS settings i just optimized them yesterday. I did the mod to the 9700 using Soft9700, which is probably the reason the card is detected as a ATi 9700 series. The card is overclocked to 290 core and 300 memory. Ive dumbed down all the settings in the games and i still seem to get shite FPS. Im leaning toward this POS VIA Chipset in this thing. I dunno its fine for the time being, i will be getting a new mobo, processor, ram and case soon here anyway so i will just bear it until i get those. Just seems like i should be getting better benchmarks after seeing all the reviews and everything else.

well i dont need onboard video i have a Radeon 9500 pro. I will take a look at that MSI board as compared to those otherones. Thx for the tips everyone.

try to replace the uxtheme.dll and the Luna Directory under Windows\System32\Resources someplace around there at least. The SFC should replace any corrupt system files if they are corrupted.

whatever, who cares what OS is better or worse. You people need to find something better to debate about, than this dumb crap all the time.

I had a lot of problems with my first 8500 pro, I returned it and all is well. One thing that i have noticed is the corrupted desktop problem. This is due to shite drivers and the fact if your system crashes the drivers or the card doesnt clear the memory. Hopefully a BIOS update will fix that. I also increased my iconcache too and that helped. If you get corrupted icons just rebuild the icon cache using TweakUI. One thing that I noticed is that the card is VERY picky on what powersupply you use, and that the connectors on the back that solder the power connector in place can get loose, so you might need to pick up some solder. I had a generic 300watt and the card didnt like it. I switched that out to a Antec True Power 400watt (got a steal on it too $50USD) and now everything is fine. What are your system specs, because if your getting an infinite loop Im guessing its a VIA chipset (damn company needs to fire all their programers and steal some from intel that way they will learn how to make North and Southbridges). I dont have any 4in1s or anything installed, and i have no problems. Im running a legacy mobo too (KT7a). Anyway post your system specs and i will see what i can't find out. Also check the www.rage3d.com forums there are A LOT of radeon users in there, that forum helped me solve my problems and get my card running stable. After flashing the BIOS too for some reason the card is picked up as a 9700 series card, and using the Soft 9700 patch, got myself a 9700 pro for 9500 costs, and i can overclock.

i had encountered a similar problem. I dont remember if it was with a CD burned using Direct CD 3.x then trying to read it on 5 or something with InCD and that. Anyway i had the same problem, i think it had to do with a conflict in ASPI drivers and the version of the program i was running. Thx for the link i will check that program out.

this is a known problem in XP. I dont know if it has to do with the board not getting the right wakeup signal or what. Check the front page i believe i just saw a patch for this problem posted on there a few days back.

the best util for overclocking is Rivatuner your can get it @ www.guru3d.com The performance increase you will get out of your card overclocking it with the default cooling (depending on how good it is) is usually not that much. I have a GeForce 4 ti4200 and i have had it overclocked to 300 memory and like something else core. Anyway i only got about another 3-5FPS out of it, and the card still ran stable. Differnt cards overclock differently. I had a Gf2MX that would not overclock to crap, then a GeForce 3 that was moderately good at it, and now my GF4 which is good @ it. So it depends on who makes the card who makes the memory, how good the cooling is and what the voltage on the card is. If you really want to go the extra 10 yards you can also volt mod the card which will allow you to increase the voltage and overclock the card more than you would normally do. As always make sure you know what you are doing because you can turn a nice card into nothing but a nice green PCB and blown capaictors.

Windows XP SERVICE PACK 2 LEAKED!!
ThC 129 replied to NTGAMEMAN's topic in Everything New Technology
why are you being such a fag, the guy just wanted people to know about a story in which an early build of XP SP2 was leaked to the web. Then you just jump right down his throat preaching your anti-w.arez crap. This is a discussion forum, so discuss it. Dont cry about pirated software when hes not even trying to get support for it. Actually if you looked around you would see that a build of SP2 has been leaked. So quit your whining and either let the thread die or dont post in it. -
Thoughts on NVidia Detonators 42.82 or better...
ThC 129 replied to Yaku's topic in Everything New Technology
the 43.00 drivers are stable for me in 2d modes. Now if i could only get my damn Radeon 9500 working i wouldnt worry about nVidia cards. Time to go buy a new motherboard -
your screwed is about the gist of it. Nobody makes anything for DOS anymore because it is no longer supported and 9 out of 10 people dont even know what DOS is.

I dont understand why people are putting a Server grade OS on their desktop PCs to "Play Counter-Strike", I could understand wanting to test active directory on a home network or something like that. Im sure your a legit beta tester too thats why you want ot play CS on a Beta (well now RTMd or rumors have it) Operating system. By time you get the OS tweaked to the point where it will play games well you have dumbed down server to windows XP pro levels anyway. Why not just install XP pro. That way you don't have to modify all the services and whatnot to not start. Whatever, kinda frivelous IMO.

what i want to know is how the heck did this get set in the first place. Someone @ HP needs to check their image file that they install from. Try and boot into Safe Mode 1st and logon using the Administrator account. The password should be whatever he set it to, or blank because HP wouldnt be stupid enough to lock people out of the admin account on their computers. If they did then do what i described below. The best thing to do is try to use a password reset disk for the admin. If that doesnt work then, if you have a Windows 2000 CD, then boot into the Recovery Console and reset the password from there. There is a bug in XP that should let you use the Win2k recovery console in XP, even though your not supposed to be able to. Did this always happen or just now?? Also was the computer ever connected to a docking station or is this a new account. XP Home should log the root account on automatically once you create it. Someone mustve set the security policy not allowing his account or group to be able to be logged on. By default there is no way it shouldnt let you logon.

XP home, Nero, EAC and wnaspi32 = headache
ThC 129 replied to bawbageo's topic in Everything New Technology
install the Adaptec Windows XP drivers. Make sure that you follow the instructions in the readme. If you do not the ASPI drivers will not work. then copy this into a .reg file and exec it Code: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Aspi32]"ErrorControl"=dword:00000001"Type"=dword:00000001"Start"=dword:00000002[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Aspi32\Parameters]"ExcludeMiniports"="" -
Does Norton make XP boot take ages..?
ThC 129 replied to cyberguru's topic in Everything New Technology
it is Norton A/V, it has something to do with the way the service starts. I have done clean installs then installed that program and my install goes from taking less than a minute to about 2-3 minutes before it logs the user on. I solved the problem by uninstalling NAV2003 and reinstalling NAV2002. The service that is probably taking the time to load is the symevent service. Im not a big fan of Symantec products but NAV is the best program out there for anti-virus. I had used Norton Internet security but after having to reinstall it on a weekly basis i got sick of it. Now i use Sygate personal firewall and a HOSTS file for ad blocking. -
do you know where i would put this file in my opera directory?? Or will it not work for opera. I dont know much about HTML and webstuff ;(, so any help is greatly appreciated.

i have heard the MX700 is the best mouse out there right now. Use that and a RatPadz as a mousing surface and you have the best mouse ride of your life. I also heard that logitech is offering rebates on the mouse too so take a look around and see what you can't find, those that are looking for a new mouse. Also the MS Bluetooth seems to stick around a 90 Hz refresh and eats batteries like a fat chick eating Ho-hos (as the reviewer said). I dont know who could make use of 8 buttons but hey if you can better for you. I just know as long as i have a scroll wheel im good to go.

So now that XP has its SP1. Which do you prefer Win2k or XP?
ThC 129 replied to pr-man's topic in Everything New Technology
I have never had problems with 2k or XP. If i was at work i would use 2k. For home use I like XP pro because of the ability to skin the OS. Yes I like my OS to look nice, i don't want it to look like it is a 80's reject like the "classic" style looks; bland to say the least. XP has its problems, like the services thing, and the stupid search dog, and the folder view defaults. My hardware runs fine on either OS, so that is a non-issue. Stability is the same for both OSes. XP seems to be able to load faster due to its prefetch capabilities. I dont like a lot of the stuff that XP comes pre-installed with. WMP is one, I dont use WMP 8 9 or whatever because it sucks. I have a MPEG card so i just use that to decode and view movies. I use Nero to burn not that XP built in Engine which is crap anyway. I don't like the "simple file sharing" by default either, or allowing "everyone" access to your drives. I use Opera so IE is a non-issue, though Anti-Leech support in Opera seems to be shotty. Really though it comes down to look, XP looks nicer and is skinable which is what I want. Sooo the winner is Windows 3.1 LOL!! -
BSOD may be mouse related. Can anyone help? [Windows XP Pro]
ThC 129 replied to shassouneh's topic in Everything New Technology
well if the driver is logitech related then try physically removing all logitech software from you computer. I would also try and track down what else is using the same IRQ that the mouse is using. If all else fails contact logitech and tell em the problem, i have never heard of a problem like this but out there in computer user land im sure someone else is having something like this happen. It seems to be an IRQ routing problem of some sort or another. Im really at a loss to try and tell you what to do.
