How many people here know that when you call up a company like HP or Compaq or Dell for support you are not even talking to them. Yes that is correct joe bob jim from Dell doesnt even work for Dell, he works for a company called Stream. What Stream and companies like it do is hire themselves out for tech support. Many of the people they hire don't know what they are doing, and they have programs that narrow down the problem that the person that calls in support is having by getting basic info and then entering it into the computer. That is why their tech support sucks.

i think this is a great step forward in hard drive technology. Im glad to see this.

check to see if ACPI is enabled, if you have an ATX motherboard once the shutdown command is issued the computer shouldnt need the power button to shutdown. That is the only thing I can think of.

Does anyone know if NAV 2002 Autoupdate works with any of the XP service packs I was just looking and saw it was disabled and i tried enabling it and it did not do anything.

its just like what rambus was trying to do. They dont get enough revenue so they try and think up some cocamainie story about owning a patent about something. Look at where that landed rambus. If you ask me it is all a bunch OF BS!!

Yeah, if you qualify expert you can go to Sniper School. Which I believe is the only way you can be a sniper in the game. As the game progresses you can go to Ranger School, get Airborne training, as well as a couple other things i was looking at. The RECON version of the game is kinda like a beta play testing version. Yes its full but at the same time some of the features and levels still need to be polished and finalized. The reason that the MOUT servers are so full is that they never expected so many people to download it (over 500,000 in 36 hours). This game might just be the counter-strike killer that hard core fans have been looking for. One thing i like is the 'Virtual Jail' that way retards will have to go through and complete the training all over again before they can play online, so that way it keeps the retards off, because who would want to go through a few hours of training just to get your character banned again. All in all this game is going to rock. I can't wait for 'AA: Soldiers' to come out.

My experience is the opposite. I have had 1. Increased stability 2. Games running better or just loading better 3. Networking is the same 4. Same internet functionality So i guess I must be one of the lucky ones.

Has anyone been able to get unsigned or Style XP skins working in XP Service pack 1, Style XP will not work on this build of windows, and I tried patching the Uxtheme.dll to noavail. So in the meantime Im stuck using *cough* Window Blinds.

well the replaced system files instead of being taken from dllcache are taken from the ServicePackFiles\i386 directory so you have to look there before anyplace else.

Well I know its due to defrag, because i have my system set to do it everyday from 4AM-8AM, and when i go to bed system works when i get up the HD light is on, and my system froze. Anyway the solution Im looking for to this problem is as follows: Im looking to find out which file or file(s) are causing this problem. I have a LOT of music on the drive(s) and most of the files are big (100mb+), it used to not do this before now it is doing it again. I dont know which drive is doing it, or which partition is doing it. I have used Diskeeper and Perfect Disk, and both do it. My Free Space is as follows: C: 8.61gb out of 20g D: 24.7gb out of 60gb e: 22.3gb out of 30gb F: 13.9gb out of 30gb C,E,F are all on my WD 80gb and D is on my WD 60gb. I believe it just started doing this yesterday, and happened today as well.

because when i do a manual defrag it doesnt lock

yes, it is well known that VIA can't make a south bridge that has decent data transfer rates. This was a big problem on the KT133a, and it seems to come back up and bit VIA in the arse again. As much as I like AMD boards and Processors, if the only choice i have for a southbridge is VIA then hell with that. AMD needs to make full chipset boards, north and southbridge. VIA has proven time and time again they can't make a stable processor, or motherboard.

This game looks to be a nice game. One of those games you never see coming but blows you away. Much like the way the orignal tribes was. This game looks very cool, 4 flying vehciles and 6 ground ones. http://www.brubin.net/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=140

I found Multiplayer soldier of fortune II to be excellent. I found it to have the gameplay of Counter-Strike with a more updated engine. Yes the single player AI is kinda gay, but the multiplayer takes up where the single player lacks. I dont buy games for a single player experience that is why my impression of this game is different. Heck its a cool game to keep my tided over until Unreal Tournement 2003 or Planet Side comes out.

It should be under the System Devices in device manager. Also check the hidden devices as well.

It is harder in SP 1 because you have to replace the file on the service pack files, then the file in system32 then the DLLCache file. SO I just edited the filelist.xml and it worked fine.
-
Yeah I hope it fixes one of the bugs ive had with rebooting and XP not wanting to start explorer right, and having to reboot like 3 more times to get it to work. Though it couldve been skin related.
-
yeah i tried the uxtheme. But it mightve been the system file protection that was f-ing it up. I thought i got em all but i will edit the filelist.xml and then try again. [EDIT] Thx for the filelist.xml tip, that fixed the problem. I am now able to use all my skins again [/EDIT]

and on to the point of the conversation Service pack 1, not piracy. If you want to talk about piracy there are plenty of threads in the "other posts" forum. I find SP1 and SP3 for 2k to be much the same, and MS continues to make both OSes better. Hats off to MS for making a decent service pack for once. Of course compatability issues for XP will arise, because it is the 1st service pack and that always happens. One thing that I like is the new Set program access and defaults, option. What you can do is hide the MS components of the OS, one could only wish you could delete them all together. There is also a new build of IE 6 in this version as well, so that cool. All in all looks like its going to be a good service pack, along with the new Direct X 9 when that is final as well.

If you want you can get yourself a copy of Deamon Tools. This way you can run Images from your HD as CDs with FULL safedisk emulation.

A friend of mine just got a new Dell Inspiron 4500 laptop, and a natural keyboard pro. The odd thing is that when the board uses USB it has been known to have problems with the keys not responding for 5-10 seconds at a time. When she changes it out to the PS/2 port no problems. She has a digital camera and the pictures from that downloaded fine using USB, just the keyboard is being a problem. So would you relate this problem to the keyboards USB connector or the USB port in the computer.
-
nope i have not, that would narrow it for sure she just doesnt have any place to put it besides the laptop. So next time i see her i will fool around with it on my computer or something

Winamp, then LAME to encode.

Im looking to upgrade my box, well every computer junky always is . And i was wondering if i should start looking at and buying pieces now, or wait a little bit until the 64-bit architecture is ready for prime time. Right now the only difference between my system and new systems is pretty much DDR Ram as compared to my SDR ram, and faster things, so an upgrade isnt a complete overhaul at this point. So do you guys think i should build a new box now or wait a little bit until 64-bit is ready for the go ahead for prime time systems?
