I recently got Madden 2002 for my PC and everything seems ok until i actually begin to play the game. the game tends to freeze after a certain period of time (not specific or anything but it tends to happen 5 mins into the game). i have win2k pro, duron 650mhz, Gigabyte GA-7ZX motherboard, 640 megs of RAM, Voodoo3 3000, and AC '97 sound (i think those are the most important specs anyways for this problem). I seem to have the "best" results (i.e. no freezes) when i turn off the sideline and leave the resolution at 640x480. is anyone else having this problem? if so, did you fix it with new video drivers? i have the drivers that came from 3dfx's site (i don't know if beta or "unofficial" drivers are good). any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks -Syed Ahmad

it freezes after a play is over and it shows the player who made the play. it doesn't freeze during the play or when i'm choosing my formation and such. ONLY after the play is over. i even tried turning off video settings but that doesn't seem to work at all. -Syed

hi everyone. i have a weird problem which is beginning to frustrate me now. i have a 650 Duron, 128meg pc100 ram, voodoo3 3000 AGP, 7ZX Giga-byte board, built-in sound, 3com nic, and Windows 2000 Pro (of course). I have been playing UT for a while and i've noticed that it "crashes" after i quit the game. this doesn't happen EVERY single time i quit, but it happens more then it should (if i played 5 times a day, for example, UT would "crash" 3 times out of the 5 when i quit). this never happended in win98, win98se, or winME. i don't experience any probs while playing, only when i quit. i have my resolution for both my desktop and UT set for 1024x768. i've tried lowering UT's resolution to 800x600 and 640x480 just to see if the res was causing probs. but that wasn't the case. does anyone know what might be going? i have dx8a and the voodoo3 3000 drivers from www.3dfx.com (i haven't tried leaked/tweaked drivers mainly cause of past experience). if you need any more info to possibly explain what's going on then please ask and i'll be glad to give it. thanks in advance!!! -Syed Ahmad p.s. when i say "crash" i am referring to the dr.watson screen that comes up. it says that unrealtournamen.exe cause a page fault. it is listed in the winnt32.log (if that helps).

hey everyone. i just built a system for my sister. its sort of old, pentium2 300 with an Asus P2B mb, 96 megs of SDRAM, Riva TNT 16mgs (Creative Labs), ESS 1869 sound, and Intel NIC. I installed winme and everything seems to be running fine except for the fact that the system won't restart! i updated the system with the socalled "Critical Updates" but that didn't help. I have a feeling its the nVidia drivers that shipped with winME. i checked for the latest drivers at nVidia but from what i read in the main paragraph it doesn't seem as though Riva TNT's are supported (the oldest card listed is a TNT2). so does anyone know what could be causing winme's inability to restart? and could someone tell me where i can find the latest drivers for the Riva TNT...thanks in advance. -Syed Ahmad P.S. everything else is working fine and the system shutsdown just fine.

hi everyone...i was wondering if there are any other patches available for win2k regarding amd durons. i know about, and installed, the reg patch that amd/microsoft came out with. but are there any other patches? i have a Giga-byte GA-7ZX board with VIA KT133 chipset. is there any patch that's specific for this board or recommended besides the registry patch? thanks for any info. -Syed Ahmad

Hi, I am having a problem sharing my files with my Win2k Server box. I want to be able share the files from the server (Win2k Advance Server) and to my WinME box. The Win2k box sees WinME's shared files, but I can't see any of shares of the server from WinME. It always asks me to give a password. its something like \\Server\IPC$ at the top of the dialog box. I have a workgroup setup, not a domain. ALL I want to do is setup my server so it shares my printer (HP LaserJet 4000 PLus if that helps) and files. If anyone can help then that'd be great. -Syed Ahmad

well here's the thing, i have two winME boxes, a win2kserver box, and a linux box. i just created the win2kserver box (its been about a week). i am using winME and so is my sister. we each have our own comps. i have winME setup so the Primary Network Logon is Windows Logon (i'm the only person that uses that particular machine so i have no need to 'log in'). my sisters machine, on the other hand, has the Primary Network Logon setup as Client for MS Networks and she prefers to log in. i don't mind having the guest account enabled considering the fact that all my MS machines connect to the Linux box for the internet, dhcp, firewall, etc. but if i'm still vulnerable (spelling?) then i'd like to know how to avoid this vulnerability (spelling?). that worked (enabling the guest account). as far as security, my win2k server box isn't the gateway or directly connected to the internet. i have a 486 linux box that is acting as my gateway and dhcp server. i also have a firewall setup on my linux box. all i want the win2k box to do is file sharing and be a print server, thats it. but if i'm still at risk, then is there another way to share files/printer on my LAN w/o enabling the guest account? i've already tried adding users and that didn't work. -Syed Ahmad p.s. i'm also willing to try winnt4 server if that's any better as far as security is concerned.

when you say create an account in WinME do you mean to create a guest account in WinME? I setup WinME for Windows Logon (in the Primary Network Logon) so I don't have to login. I'm the only one who uses the WinME so that's why I set it up to do that...I just wanted to clarify what you meant. -Syed

Hey everyone. this is a simple question. i just installed service pack 2. i noticed that there is a directory in my windows directory called "service pack files". is it safe to delete all the contents of this directory? it'd be nice if they could be deleted cause that would give me about 150 megs back -syed

i have disabled system file protection and deleted all the contents of dllcache to save space. from what i've read, if SFP isn't running then the winnt/service pack files/i386 contents can be deleted. if someone can verify that then let me know...i'm only doing this to save space, that is all. -Syed Ahmad

Hey everyone. I have read the differences between XP Home edition and Pro edition. I was wondering if anyone has used both and has an opinion on each. I personally would want XP Home editions simply because it doesn't have services that XP Pro has (i.e. fax service, ASR, etc). The only feature that WinXP Pro has that I would want is the integrated CD Burning. Does anyone know if there is a difference in startup or diskspace usage between the two? -Syed Ahmad

Hey everyone. I played with WindowsXP build 2458 and one of the first things i tested out was the built in ability to burn cds. Is there a way to know whether or not the cds are closed or left open? and if there is a way to control that, does anyone how to do that? I remember a wizard popping up when it was ready to burn the files, but i don't remember if it asked to be left open or closed... -Syed

Hi everyone. I am having problems when sharing my HP LaserJet 4Plus. I have a small network, 2 computer network. Both computers are win2k pro and have file/printer sharing enabled. the printer is setup on my P2 300. I am having trouble sharing it with the Pentium 133. The pentium 133 sees the printer when i run the network setup and it seems to install it just fine. but when i try to print from any program, nothing happens. I don't even get an error message. is there something that i'm doing wrong or are their issues with the HP LaserJet4 Plus? Thanks for any help. Syed Ahmad

hi everyone. i have profiles setup in winME. whenever someone comes over, i tell them to simply click on "Cancel" when they see the logon prompt. and that, obviously, takes you to the "default" profile. i have, however, noticed something weird with the user accounts. if i accidentally hit enter W/O typing in my password, a prompt called "Welcome to Windows" comes up with my username and a blank password. if i hit Escape, or Cancel button, then it goes straight to my profile. that seems weird to me because 1) i never typed my password (or anything in the password field for that matter) and 2) i would think that windows9x/ME would say "incorrect password" like winnt/2k. is this just me or is this a known thing with win9x/ME? and if it is a known thing, then is there a way to fix it? win9x isn't meant to be secure, i know that. i never once mentioned security. i logon to win9x because i have a nic card and so i can have access to other computers on the network. i didn't ask the question for security reasons, i asked the question out of curiosity...i'm the only one who even logs onto my pc (even when i had win2k i was the only one). syed

i do have a password for my account. but if its something i can't fix then i'll just live with it. i would love to be in win2k, but the reason why i stopped using win2k was because of loading time, diskspace, and better game support. winme offers all that and its pretty stable. so, if you can actually help out, then please reply. hi everyone. i have win2k pro and i've installed tweakui 1.33. it has an option to clear internet history eash after the browser is closed. with win98se, this option works great, it clears the history each time i close the browser. but in win2k, this option doesn't seem to work. i even tried checking the "empty internet history" option found in "internet options", but that doesn't clear it out either. is this a known problem or is it just me? syed ahmad

is this "fix" a win2k only fix or do you think that ppl win98se should try this also? i'm considering to install win98se, that's why i'm asking syed ahmad

hi everyone. i just installed an agp voodoo3 3000 card in my machine. i'm running win2k pro. i downloaded the latest drivers from 3dfx.com and installed them. everything seemed fine until i started to play some vids from realplayer and media player. after watching the vids, my screen had "fudged". all i saw was some weird fuzzy lines. i've heard the drivers for the voodoo3 for win2k are beta, would this have anything to do with my current? or is that just a freak thing that happened? syed ahmad

hi everyone. i am running win2k pro and i have a riva tnt as my vid card. i am thinking of getting a 3dfx card (voodoo 3 or 5) because my motherboard (asus P2L97) has compatibility issues with riva based cards. my question is this, does 3dfx have good support for win2k drivers? are 3dfx's drivers stable and updated as much as nvidia's? thanks in advance. syed ahmad

i encountered a problem connecting to unreal tournament servers. after query the master server, nothing happens. i refresh the servers 3 times each, waiting 5 mins in between, nothing. after the query, it doesn't take long for unreal to display the servers. i have never had this problem in win2k. i had a problem similar to this with win98, but never with win2k. i am on a dsl connection, so i am completely baffled. if anyone can help plz do. thanks in advance. syed ahmad
