no, i'm not using a router. i notice that during the server query, my modem shows activity (its an extrenal Westell modem from Bell Atlantic). but right before the query is done, there is NO activity. i do feel its network related, it can't be anyting else. but regular surfing is fine, the network settings in unreal tournament seem fine and i was able to chat in unreal tournament...hope that helps... syed ahmad

I have a small network at home. both systems are running win2k pro. i want to setup policies for the network but i can't find the policy editor in win2k. i have a test account which i wanna use for testing purposes, of course. but again, i don't know where the policy editor is. is "Local Security Policy" under admin tools the same as nt4's policy editor? and does win2k pro even have a policy editor or does it only come with the server versions? if anyone can help, that'll be great. thanks in advance. dev

I am thinking about getting a new compuer online. The computer comes with a 32MB ATI Xpert 2000 3D Accelerator Card. I was wondering if anyone knows of its performance in win2k, whether or not it has good d3d/opengl support, and is it worth it? If anyone can answer these questions then that'll be great and could save me some money dev

i installed unreal tournament under win2k. whenever the game starts, it freezes in the menu. tried the openGL video mode, but the problem here is that the games is EXTREMELY slow and unplayable. i was using the nvidia 3.78 drivers for my creative riva tnt2. i tried the creative drivers and nothing. i even tried leaked drivers, but that gets me into window mode. i was able to play unreal tournament in win98se without any problems. i was wondering if anyone knows what drivers i should use, if there is some strange work around, or any other helpful suggestion for my problem. thanks for any advice. syed ahmad

hi everyone. here's my prob/questions. i have two computers which are networked together. i also have dsl, which i want to share between tht two computers. the "server" has win2k pro and the "client" has win98. the dsl modem is obviously setup on the server. i downloaded/installed sygate and set it up to share the connection. the client, however, could only surf to hotmail.com and msn...in both ie and netscape. i doubled check settings and made small changes in settings. one thing to note, i have dsl but i have to connect cause its not a static ip. i was thinking about install server or advanced server and use its internet sharing features cause its built in and supposed to be good, but if anyone has any suggestions then i'm all ears! i connect with PPPoE. i would like to avoid using "all aboard", "sygate", "winroute", or any program like cause because i just installed win2k adv svr and i'd like to use the built in ICS or NAT. i tried all those programs listed above anyways and they didn't work. win2k's ICS has been the most promising for because i can ping ip's and at least surf to a site, even though its just to microsoft's site. to me, this is a routing issue. i have a feeling that either my isp (bell atlantic) does not allow this or some of my settings may be off. again, file and printer sharing is just fine. thanks in advance. syed ahmad

first i knew about ics, but i wanted to try sygate first since others who have networks have suggested it. but regardless, i tried the built-in ics, all aboard, winroute, and nat32. i get the same results with each. the only difference i saw with ics compared to the rest was that i could now ping ip's, but still can't surf the web, telnet, surf using ips, etc. again, the network is fine as far as file and printer sharing. syed ahmad

i have a weird prob with ie5 and flash 4. before in win98, ie5 would download and install the pluggin without any prompts. now, in win2k, any site with flash doesn't load up and i it never installs. i checked "install on demand" in internet options, but that doesn't help. does anyone know why this is happening? i've tried that, but no prompts come up like the site says. it did for the shockwave pluggin, but not for flash. so any other suggestions?

hi everyone. i have a question regarding partition programs and win2k. i know partition magic 5 does not install in win2k (i've already tried). so, what i want to know is if there is a partitioning program out there that can support ntfs5 and allow me to change/create partitions. if anyone knows of one plz let me know. thanks in advance. syed ahmad

ok here's the deal. i have win2k final and installed madden 2000. the game runs fine, but the my sidewinder game pad doesn't work properly. in win98, of course, madden 2000 saw a sidewinder and the game ran smoothly, but madden under win2k had probs. first madden, under win2k, saw my sidewinder as a gravis pad (win2k autodetects the joystick as a gamepad, by the way). because of this the game began to slow down and "skip", which made it impossible to play with the joystick. so what did i do? i went out and bought a sidewinder game pad pro (usb). win2k detects it fine, madden still shows the joystick as a gravis pad, but the game doesn't "skip" and i can play the game just fine. what i'm wondering is why would getting a usb controller make a difference? why should it matter? like i said before, madden worked in win98 fine. and other games in win2k work fine with the game pad, i.e. mortal kombat 4.

i have a problem playing madden 2000 in win2k 2195. the game installs fine and actually starts up fine. but the game becomes jittery and pauses for split seconds. i have a sidewinder gamepad and win2k detects just fine, but madden detects my js as a gravis pad pro. if i remove the js from control panel, madden 2000 runs fine, but only with keyboard/mouse. i want to know 1) does anyone else have madden 2000 working fine in win2k 2) does anyone else have a similar problem and finally 3) how did you fix it. any suggestions are welcomed. btw i also tried the 3.02 software and that doesn't even install all the way. plz help if you can!!! thanks Syed Ahmad

i am trying to install madden 2000 underin win2k rc3 build 2183. i get an error message saying "insufficient memory. quit one or more windows applications then try again." nothing is opened cause the cd is set to autorun. i have no problems installing other games, just madden 2000. i have a creative labs riva tnt, if that helps.
