    sharing with older Windows'

    A few more details would be helpfull. Can the 98 machine a) see the 2k machine in the network neighbourhood? If so, can you access the machine, or does it pop up with a window asking for the password for ip$? And if you can get into the computer and see any of the shared folders, do they ask for passwords? Can you ping the win2k machine? Can the win2k machine ping the 98? Can the win2k see the 98's shares? Atre they on the same subnet? Have a good day.

    2195 -> realy FINAL build ?

    There exist two versions of 2195, one WITH a 120 day limit, and one without. Obviously you have the one with the 120 day limit. Had you done a search 1st, you wouldv'e seen posts about this. A fix exists, however it requires you to use software unpacking the ISO or file u have, replacing some of them with the patch and then reinstalling. Use the search feature of the forum, for this has been discussed in detail previously. Have a good day.

    User unable to run Internet Connection Wizard

    Are you logged in as Administrator or a Power user? Or did you perhaps create an account without the correct privelages needed to modify the network settings?

    Sharing Violations A-Go-Go!!!

    Hmmm.... This has happened on occasion to me. While logged in as Administrator, there should be no files you can not delete, move etc. However I think the problem lies more with Windows using the files and locking them as such, for me the problem went away after a reboot. Did you try that? I know I know, precious uptime, but hey. Let me know if that worked, if not I'll try and remember what else I did to delete the damn temp folder I created on my desktop to (temporarily, duh) unpack some files.
  5. HUB, One nice feature of this message board is the ability to do a search for previous topics. I know I know, a little extra work, but it'll potentially save you from being flamed if someone is in a bad mood. You see, this question pops up every few days, and had you done a search for it you would've found your answer, and let people focus more on unanswered questions. However, basically it comes down to that if u want liveware (which is both for Live and Live Value) you can follow the instructions on chameleons web site, who's address can be found thru searching the message board. Keep in mind that I blieve it disables acpi support and also does not function fully -> it's a hack not ported drivers. Me? I would wait until something from creative comes out. And that's not just becqause I am SMP (Multiprocessor system) and can't do the hack. Good luck.

    NTFS vs. FAT32

    NTFS will allow for permissions to be set on files. In FAT32 (I believe) one cannont restrict the access on the files to specific users or groups. NTFS has a little bit more overhead, which is why floppies will not format to it. NTFS seems a little bit faster in Win2k. Also keep in mind that if you are dual booting, Windows95/98 will not be able to natively read the ntfs partition, although 3rd party solutions do exist, although in limited form (read only I believe). With that in mind, if you are dual booting, leave it FAT32, if you are runnign purely 2k then I'd recomend going with NTFS, it is after all the file system designed for the OS.

    Voodoo3 and "weird" colors?

    When running games such as quake3 and other glide games(kingpin) I notice that the textures seem kinda messed up. It is only noticeably fairly close, they have these red like like lines kind of outlinging certain areas. I hope someone knows what I mean cuz it's hard to describe.I am using seldzars' drivers (thanks by the way!) and run 2193, voodoo3 2000, sblive and dual PIII. Also, I have 128MB of RAM right now, and currently when running Task Man reveals that about 80MB is used. That is while running winamp, eudora etc. Now would I notice any performance difference in upping to 256 MB? And finally, has anyone seen or used an ultra ata66 pci card made by digital research I blieve.... Best Buy has it for 49.99. Any recomendations? Thanks, Steve

    Ultra ATA 66

    This question is three fold. I currently have a 13 gig ata66 drive sitting in my box. However, the motherboard does *not* support the protocol, leaving the drive at 33. I am looking to buy one of those nifty PCI cards allowing another four ide channels as well as Ultra ATA66. My questions are as follows: Can one boot off an ultra ata 66 pci card? Are there compatible w/ win2k. Will I notice any speed difference? According to the box I saw, it claimed better performance than SCSI. While I assume that is marketing does anyone have any hints? Is it worth the ?? And what brand would one recomend to work w/ win2k. I saw a "Digital research"(I think) and it listen 95/98/nt for os support.... thanks for your time. Cheers, Steve [This message has been edited by foxman98 (edited 23 December 1999).]

    Win2k SMP and SBlive

    Greetings all. Before everyone gets upset I have read through the previous tops regarding this and didn't find a conclusive answer. My question is as follows. My system is Windows2k, dual PIII's and an sblive card. I got my voodoo3 working and have sound w/ the sblive from the built in driver. However I would like to know if liveware is possible. I have a zip file w/ drivers downloaded from someone's web page, forget where. But I notcied in previous thread that is is supposedly impossible for an smp system, win2k, and sblive liveware to play nice. is this true? and if not, how do I go about installing it? Thanks, Steve

    Win2k and Audio programs

    I believe, from reading previous forum messages, that you need to disable pci (or is it irc?) steering. Goto device manager and then to your soundcard and properties, and check off disable pci steering. hope this helps. Cheers, Steve
