I believe the Windows2000 support tools come with such a utility, should be on your cdrom. Cheers, Steve

    PIII Overclock

I know this isn't really Win2k related, but bear with me since there seem to be a lot of intelligent smart people here. My system: Dual PIII 450 128M RAM. Super Micro P6DBE Motherboard. Currently the PIII's are overclocked to 504. (112 Mhz. FSB). My question is, is there a utility to let me go higher, because my BIOS will only let me set it to 112.... Thanks Steve

    SMP?

on a side note, and this is a rant, it nevetr ceases to amaze me. No offense to the original poster, but you must have some idea on how to check for two cpu's? it seems nowadays too many people have too much money to spend on something they don't fully understand. Just recently I was talking to my friend who owns a comptuer shop..... Someone came in and wanted a dual proc system (young kid who had persudaded parents). my friends makes the system willingly, hey, money is good. coupla weeks later kid comes in i guess asking why other systems w/ two procs are outperforming him on benchmarks (which IMO indiciate jack **** about computer performance). Turns out he is running 98. sigh. I dunno. I'm gonna stop rantying as this isn't the place. I guess my visit to compusa a few mins ago put me in a bad mood. Talk about clueless people. Me:"I'd like 128MB DIMM". Guy:"You'll need two of em they go in pairs." Me;"No. They do not. SIMMS do." Guy:"Oh really?". Doh. Come on people.... Cheers, Steve

    SMP?

an easier way to do it would be right clicking on the start bar, select task manager, and goto thje performance tab. if you have two cpu use graphs, you are good to go. cheers, steve

    PIII Overclock

Did you have the celeron's OC'ed before, or did the manufacturer setting thing work for you. I hate how they named it that, took me a while to finally figure out that all it did was to adjust the FSB. Jeez, they could've made it easier..... Anyways, u said to look on the mobo for the chip, couldn't you do the same w/ yours?

Cant play games off of cdrom in windows 2000

*Comlpetely Off-Topic* Beavis you stupid dumbass! Seriously though, I've always wondered about how many people out there still watch Beavis and Buttheaqd. Myself and several friends still enjoy them, even though, in our 20's, I think we've passed the prime audience. However I think like the simpsonse they have a little bit more too them than just "huhuhuh"heheheh". Classic episodes.... The Nosebleed episode. "Uhhhh don't worry beavis, she said it's not an emergency" "ohhh ok that's nice". Vaya Con Cornholio. "Habla? Pahabla!" "Find out where Lake Titikaka is" "NICARAGUA". Sorry, remember classics. */Off-Topic*

    Problem with Matrox G400 Dualhead

I believe that if you wade through some of the older threads here or use the almighty SEARCH button you would find an answer. When you boot do you see the bootscreen? Obviosuly you have some kind of problem with the driversm, safe mode is there to let you into windows, alebit with the lowest common denominator, 640-480-16. Yuck. And it messes up my icon placement whenever I go into it.... Hope this helps a bit, I remember seeing quite a few posts on this card.

Opposing force help needed in win2k

Hi, While I haven't gotten around to playing this supposedly very excellent game yet myself, I was wondering whether or not the game works for you without loading your save games? If so then it's the game that is at fault, and by using the SEARCH button one may find an answer, if I recall there have been quite a few posts on Half Life. Otherwise, how did you keep your save files when installing win2k? On Hard Drive? Or did you keep them on floppy? ZIP? Cheers, Steve

    PIII Overclock

Does the softFSB work with your mobo yuppiescum?

    PIII Overclock

Heh, this one took me a while to figure out / find help for on the internet. If indeed your mobo is same setup us mine, if you go into the BIOS, it's a grpahical interface right? Well, goto the third menu on the right, i think's it chipset. If this isn't the right section look around, you are looking for "manfuctory setting" something like that. it'll be all the way on the bottom. 5 modes are listed. Mode 0 is regular FSB (100) and mode 2 is 103 and mode 3 is 112). Play around, high I can get my piii's 450 up to is 504. cheers, steve

Ekstreme, you said out loud what i think everytime a post like this comes up. Heh, I saw the other one too. Bad day? Thanks for all the work and help btw. Cheers, Steve

    PIII Overclock

I have played around w/ softfsb, however, my motherboard is not listed undr the motherboard section, and thus i am forced to select the chipset (winbond etc.). How do I found out what the fsb chipset is? Again, supermicro P6DBE. Thanks. Steve

Another SBLive ?, but only related to the NT drivers.

Yes, *some* people have gotten liveware to work, albeit not with all the features. I'm pretty sure EAX does not work. Also, when installing the hack, some have reported siginificant decreases in speed on their system, so benchmarking before and after would be a good idea. IMHO it would be better to wait for creative to release Liveware 4 or whatever will be compliant with windows 2000. Also not that SMP system are basically left in the cold w/ the WDM drivers until Creative realizes that is the people who live on the cutting edge so to speak that influence people what to buy. With no official drivers for Sblive (even beta ones) or my webcam III I will not recomend creative products in the future. I realize that this is the risk / trade off one takes when rnning something not official yet, but on the other hand, plenty of other companies ahve released driversd for their cards etc. Cheers, Steve

    Voodoo3 and Benchmarking

Question, when I run Wintune98 to benchmark the system, diretx gets incredibly poor ratings -- does that mean i need to reinstall the voodoo3 drivers I got from seldzar? Or is it more that the the drivers aren't supporting the directx calls at this moment?

    Transparency in Windows 2000

Over the summer, I used Windows 2000 for a bit (beta 3) and remember toying with a program which allowed one to set a window or application (it was nice for winamp) to be transparent or even tinted a color. Does anyone know where to get something like this? Cheers, Steve

    Transparency in Windows 2000

Excellent! Thanks a lot :-) I was wondering though, does anyone else have any programs specifically for Win2k that they consider an absolute must have, such as the transparency program. I know for my GTRipple is nice, adding a ripple effect to your desktop.... ? [This message has been edited by foxman98 (edited 14 January 2000).]

    NTFS -> FAT32

AFAIK the only way to go back is through commercial software..... Partition Magic (Newest Edition) should do the trick. Seldzar, do you mean how did he convert fat32 to NTFS after having installed Win2k already? If so, from the command line enter the command "convert d: /fs:ntfs" where d is the drive you want to convert. If the drive you are converting happens to be the system drive drive the rebootn will occor next reboot.

    Cambridge Sound Works FourPointSurround 2000

I seem to recall someone reporting success if you go into the properties tab of the sound card and find the setting for sound, you should be able to select what kinda speaker setup you have....

    Windows 2000 uncompression!!!

I'm just curious, but why did you decide to compress your windows directory in the first place? AFAIK windows will not boot w/ a compressed WindowsNT directory? Because it needs to load the uncompressing drivers, but they are already compressed, quite a b[problem? Cheer, Steve

    remembering LAN passwords

One possible solution, would perhaps to map them as network drives, and have Windows automagically (I've always liked that word....) reconnect on bootup. That way the password should be saved. By default, for security reasons, Windows does not store the passwords longer than the users session, that is, until they log off. After that passwords are required again. I remember somewhere there exists a registery setting to be able tp change that but i am not quite sure where it is. Cheers, Steve

Where is my User Manager for Domains???

Unless I am reading your question incorrectly, try settings, control panel, administrative tools, computer mangement. Should be there. Cheers.

    2195 -> realy FINAL build ?

As far as I know, you then have the version without the 120 day limit. Mine says the same in Safe Mode. if you, at the command prompt, type "winver" and it doesn't mention anything about a time limit, you should be ok. Cheers.

    4 SPEAKER WITH SBLIVE...

Have you tried unplugging the rear input plug from the sub?
  25. foxman98

    Win2k 2195 (final) + Voodoo 2 + Flight Simulator 2000

Does your voodoo2 work with other games? You might have to wait for official drivers...... As for the sblive, while hacks do exist for LiveWare, they are not recomended because they have been known to slow down machines and also makes you lose hibernate etc. Also they are *not* fully functioning. However if you do want to use them please look for either seldzar's machine (http://seldzar.dhs.org/) or Chameleon's box (http://win2kbox.cjb.net/) for the workaround. If I were you I would go the simple aproach, unplug the rear speaker input from the speakers, and voila, the rear speakers will have sound, albeit the same sound as the front ones, and just wait for creative to get off their lazy assess and make drivers. I am still pissed off I can't get my webcam to work. Damn it creative, almost everyone has beta drivers for the beta OS can't you taker some other stance than "only when it's out". Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Have a good day.
