aureal is gone but A3D is hear to stay. (thats a pun, hear that.) creative or someone is gonna take over and release win2k drivers for vortex cards. At the moment DX sound is supported in hardware. Which means the vortex2 supports 96 hardware streams in win2k but no A3D or EAX. I wouldnt get a Sblive if you already have a vortex2. Aureal is still working on the win2k drivers.

check out msdn at www.microsoft.com/msdn drivers work on either pro or server. they are really the same OS just server, adv. server and data center have more features and options you dont need unless your running a large network with many users.

I went back to the 5.13 drivers and my framerate is normal when i play Q3 TF mod but with the 5.14 drivers i get 2fps in the Q3 TF mod or any other mod. I have a problem with Q3A and the 5.14 drivers. when i play regular single player my framerate is great no problem but when i play a mod my framerate drops to 2FPS any ideas?

I dont have a 66DMA controller but i do have SCSI. I think the BIOS only needs to be enabled on the controler that is connected to the boot drive. All the BIOS does is take over for your motherboard BIOS so it cant read your MBR to boot your OS. maybe im wrong or your looking for something else

what MS is doing is making all their OS the same with some having more features like 8-way smp and more backend services. but they share other features like the TCP/IP stack and the important part for gamers Direct X. there is no reason why win2k cant be just as good as winME. You have to turn off some background services to get more resources but other then that the only diff is the support from hardware vendors.

my win2k PC and win98SE PC share a cable modem and in win9x i get twice the download speed as i do in win2k. my road runner website has a 5mb file to download to test your download speed. win98 170/kb 27sec win2k 80/kb 54/sec they both had the same NIC a realtek 8029 PCI 10mb card but i put a 3com 100mb PCI card and still no improvement. anyone know how to fix it or anyone have the same situation? I also upgraded my win9x box to win ME beta3 which i downloaded from MSDN. still downloads faster then win2k. BUT dosent win2k and winME use the same TCP/IP stack? SO WTF???

Thanks for the reg file link. I will let you know if it works. I had tried that website speed test before and it too tells me that win9x is faster then win2k. Hopefully this tweak will fix it.

has anyone tried the new BIOS that has improved ACPI support? i flashed the new BIOS and everything is fine. I have to reintall to see if ACPI works so i will do that soon. Aopen AX6BC Pro Gold

yup yup everything works great now. win2k installed ACPI when before it was just standard PC. I didnt even have to reconfigure my com ports. great motherboard very stable just the damn software mainly drivers that bring it down.

if you have a TNT video card use the ref. drivers 3.81 or 3.78 and edit the inf and delete all the refresh rates up to 75 for the resolutions you play openGL games. then reinstall the driver and for DX use the above metioned refresh overide option in DXdiag

the reason it says 100% usage is that windows thinks the cpuidle program is using the cpu cycles for actual work but it is doing the same thing as system idle process which is the same thing as cpu idle which is redundent and not as good as letting windows do it.

dont run that crap in w2k. NT alread has HLT instructions. only win9x dont. HLT = halt cycles. instead of the CPU waste cycles doing nothing HLT stops them and lets the CPU cool of some. if you look under running tasks you will see HLT as system idle process and it uses most of the CPU time.
