TOS will swap out programs to disk even when there is RAM available. The reason for this is to allocate more RAM for use a dynamic buffer cache for HD reads.

Actually TweakUI doesn't do it. All TweakUI has a setting for is the auto-run option. Auto-insert notification is different. Even with auto-run turned off the OS still checks the CD when you place it in the drive. That's what that little pause is.

I can connect using W2K no problem. I said NT because samba authenticates the user via the NT domain. I don't do share level or user level authentication (user level is probably what you're using) There is a .reg file for W2K in the 2.0.5a distribution of samba. I haven't used it though. All I can say is it works fine here. I'm using samba on 3 machines all running Red Hat 6.1 and samba-2.0.5a. Samba is setup to authenticate through an NT domain.

Fargo didn't read that line correctly. What that says is you're LISTENing on that port. That means that the microsoft-ds service is running on your machine.

Just tried them out. They work here. I have an Asus V3800 (TNT2). Only tested Q3 and the performance is the same. ~40 FPS @ 1024x768 32-bit. Now if Asus would get off their a$$ and make some drivers for all the added stuff on this card that would be nice. Want to try out this TV-OUT port. What about getting an ISDN router instead of a card? Then all you need is a compatable ethernet NIC. Also helpful if you want some kind of little LAN using the ISDN. Just a thought.

Verbose tells the command to output extra information while it's doing it's job. It's very common to see that on UNIX commands (usually -v).

I also recomend against doing CD to CD copies. If I just want to copy a CD I usually make a temporary image and then burn that. Most programs have an option to use same drive to read and to record. I have found my SCSI CDR which does 12x reads much faster then my 36x IDE CD-ROM. IDE just isn't as fast as SCSI, even ATA-66.

Hi Everyone. I'm curious how everyone is planning (or has) their partition layouts. I'm from the old NT camp where we always had 3 partitions. A small FAT partition for emergency repairs, an NTFS partition for OS and a third NTFS partition for data. Well I did this on my 6GB drive and I always find myself with an ever shrinking OS partition and 50MB or so wasted for the small FAT drive. Now that Win 2000 is coming out I'm going to get my self a nice big drive. Probably 13GB or 20GB so I'm re-thininking this layout stuff. With the new "repair console" there should be no need for the small FAT drive and I was just going to make one big NTFS drive. Any words for or against?

I regularly burn CDs with Adaptec Easy CD Creater 3.5 w/ all patches and Padus' Disc Jugler without problems. I've been using the same combination with RC1, RC3 and 2195. I've never installed any 3rd party ASPI layer. I'm using a Panasonic 7502B SCSI attached to an Adaptec AHA-2940. Are you using reliable CDR media? Lately I've had no problems with Verbatim and Imation (3M). When I first got my CDR I was using a noname brand and had a world of problems.
