Has anyone had any luck with this game? It's one of my favorites and it'd break me heart if I couldn't play it after making the switch to Linux.I'm talking about the original one, not DK2. I've had really good luck with most games; Starcraft, Warcraft, Diablo II, Quake III, UT, but there are still a few that have me stumped. I want to switch to Linux very badly, but this seems to be a slight hump that I'm trying to get over... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm using Redhat 8.0; First question: I have an external Parallel port Zip Drive. It worked fine under Mandrake 9.0, but I can't get it to work under Redhat. I've alreday tried the HOWTO at www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO/mini/other-formats/html_single/ZIP-Drive.html but it isn't working. Any ideas? Second question: I keep getting the following erros on boot up: hde: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error } hde: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError BadCRC } I've swapped out IDE cables. I have an UDMA-66 cable on the hard drive (Seagate 30gb) and a normal IDE cable on the CD. Machine is a P-III 450Mhz, 640mb ram, Seagate 30GB hard drive (model ST330620A), ABIT BE-6 motherboard, Voodoo5 (32mb) video card, Ensoniq 5880 AudioPCI sound card, and a 3com 3C595 NIC. Also the machine seems alot slower than it should be, considering the processor and all of the RAM I have. I would just think that it would run faster than it is. Thanks in advance.

I finally got a spare machine at work that I can slick and dedicate to Linux (Instead of dual booting; I really don't like to dual boot), and I dl'ed Mandrake 9.0 two days ago (the final, not the RC), and I'm totally itching to get it on this box so I can see how it does on my Win2K Domain. But I've been so busy that I can't find the time for it. Things keep coming up (You know how it goes ) I know that once I get started, I'll be hitting this site hard for info. But I'm stoked about getting away from M$, both at home and at work (I'm the Admin). I just have to thoroughly evaluate any solution that I recommend. I've got 15 users locally and 70 users company wide that need to be able to perform their tasks. They range from exceptionally computer savvy (rare) to not knowing how to get on the internet without using AOL (very common). I've been interested in alternative OS's for a long time but it's only been recently that I've finally lit a fire under my butt to stop thinking about it and do something. I'm really hoping the Linux Compatible can play a major role in me doing this.

I'm a WinDoze user who is seriously evaluating a move to Linux. I've beeen a regular at NTCompatible.com for a few years now and when I heard about a Linux compatible sister-site, I was ecstatic, because I knew how helpful NTCompatible had been for me in getting away from Win9x/WinME (what garbage!) and migrating to Win2K/WinXP. Even most Linux users I've talked to agree; if you must use Windows, use Win2K/WinXP. Just avoid Win9x/WinME like the plague. It's total crap. But alas, my enthusiasm has waned because it seems that people just ain't coming here. I've told many people about it, but maybe I'm not enough. Maybe there aren't enough people spreading the word about this site. I'd hate to see this great concept go away because I depend on it everyday. I know that there are 5 billion Linux Web sites, but if this site can do for Linux what NTCompatible has done for WinNT/Win2K/WinXP, there could be alot of folks willing to give it a shot. I guess I'm just pushing for a bit more input from people. It's like the phrase "...And the crowd goes mild...". Am I the only one who wants what this site can offer? I hope not...

Has anyone been able to get Disney's Hercules Print Studio to work under Win2K? I want to put it on my computer for my niece and it installs fine but when I try to start it, I get an "Error loading smackw32.dll" message. Thanks in advance

Yes. I have added all of the Win98 boxes in the server manager. I've narrowed it down to the "net use * /delete" line. For some reason, when the Win98 box gets to that line, the script exits. I've managed a work-around (I set up two scripts; one with the /delete line and one without it). This is just an annoying problem, but one the will be a non-issue once I get all of the boxes migrated over to Win2K. GAWD!! I hate Win98. Thanks for the reply.

I have small Windows domain at work (12 computers). All of the machines were running Win98SE and I am in the process of migrating these boxes over to Win2K Pro. I have set up a login script that does three things: Syncs time with the PDC, removes all mapped network drives, and then re-maps to network shares (so everyone is mapped the same way). This script works like a charm on the machines with Win2K, but on the Win98 machines, the popup window is there, like the script is running but after it finishes, the machine is still not mapped properly. If I go to the netlogon directory on my PDC and run the .bat file, it works just fine. But it's not executing properly on logon. Any ideas? Here's my logon script (I've removed the actual machine names): @echo off net time \\<PDC> /set /y net use /delete * /y net use H: "\\<Server1>\Archive" net use I: "\\<Server1>\Gfx" net use J: "\\<Server1>\Home Folders" net use K: "\\<Server1>\Shared Data" This is really only a minor problem, until I can finish getting everyone running Win2K, but it's pretty annoying.

Is there a way to create a Windows NT CD with the service pack already integrated like you can for Windows 2000? The FAQ says how to do it for Win2K here, but I'm not sure if the same procedure would apply to WinNT 4.0: www.ntcompatible.com/faq232.shtml It's not a huge thing but it would make some things easier for me. Also, can you install IIS 5.0 on WinNT 4.0, or is IIS 5.0 only for Windows 2000?

That did the trick. Now if I could just figure out what those other ones mean. I know they have something to do with McAfee. I'm using VirusScan 4.03a on my Win2K box and Netshield 4.03a on my NT4 Server (4.5 was all screwy...)

Has anybody been able to get this game to work on Win2K? I went exactly by the instructions on the compatibility page but everytime I try to start it, it's asks if I want to install DirectX 5. I'm running a P-III 500mhz, 192m ram, ATI XPert@play 8mb PCI, Diamond Monster 3D II 16mb accelerator (with the 3DFX 1.01 beta drivers).

I use my system primarily for graphics (I'm a graphic artist) and when I'm sick of graphics, I play games (Been sick of graphics ALOT lately. I just know that I need to upgrade these two items and I don't want to waste my money on something that won't work worth a **** under Win2K. I love Win2K and everything works great right now, and there ain't no way in HELL I'll ever let a Win9x installation CD anywhere near my computer again!

I currently have the following config: Intel P-III 500mHz 192m Ram 20gb HD ATI XPert@play (8mb PCI) Video Card Diamond Monster 3D II Video accelerator Creative Labs AWE 32 Sound Card Altec-Lansing 3 pc. Speakers (2 satellites and 1 subwoofer) Window 2000 Pro (Retail) I want to upgrade my 3D Accelerator card and my sound card but I'm not sure which ones will work best under Win2K. As far as the video accelerator goes, I've heard good things about the Voodoo 3 cards, the GeForce cards, and the Nvida TNT cards. For sound, The Diamond MX-300 and the Soundblaster Live! Platinum have come up. Can anybody give me some recommendations? Thanks in advance.

I've been having a minor problem with Quake 3: After playing for about 10 minutes or so, the game will lock up and the only way to get out is to hit the reset button. I have a P-III 500, 192m Ram, 20gb WD hard drive (ATA/66), Diamond Monster II 3D (Voodoo2 chipset), ATI Xpert@play 98, using W2K 2195 Pro Final. This is something that has just started happening. The only thing that I've seen was a reference to turning off "flare" on the NTCompatible 3dfx page but whoever wrote it had rather poor english (no offense intended) and I couldn't find anything in the Q3 setup about flare. This occurs whether I'm actually playing or if I just have the game open; about 10 minutes into it and it locks up. This is just a kinda annoying problem. I really like the overall performance of W2K; I'd hate to have to go back to Win98 just because of this. [This message has been edited by TymbrWlf (edited 11 February 2000).]
