I totally agree.....BGII is one of the most complete and inticing games ive ever played. I did not want it to end. I was so lost into the world and i could've kept playing it a lot longer. As for planescape, i plan on buying that really soon. Have you guys played Icewind Dale? I just completed that game last week. It is also a very fun game. hehe, cool post dude... This kinda stuff never pops up on these boards, and i think it is nice for a change.

If it is not windows....then it is WINNT. It's one of those folders.....i just cant remember right now. Ive converted all my NT machines at work to win2k so its been a while since ive worked with NT 4.0. But, it will work....i deal with this **** all day. good luck... Actually....i just double checked for ya'....the exact location for your profiles on a Winnt 4.0 box is \Winnt\Profiles\*users* hope this helps.. Are they networked together?? If they are then you can simply copy the user account from one machine to the other. I believe it is in Windows\System\Profiles\*user* If you go there, copy the folder for the user you want to migrate, then go to network neighborhood, find your other machine and paste that folder in a folder on the hard drive. Then, log off of the machine that just got the new profile folder and log back on to the LOCAL computer, not the domain, as administrator. Then find the folder that you copied over from the other machine and copy it again...only...this time you want to paste it in the Windows\System\Profiles\*user that you want to be overwritten by other profile* Then, log off of administrator and log back in under your username on the domain. Hope you understood all that....good luck. Oh yeah....if they aren't networked, then just copy the folder on zip disk, or you will have to ftp it to a site that both comps can get to, or something along those lines. Either way, once you get the folder over, it is the same process... [This message has been edited by HarU (edited 07 February 2001).]

I agree with you Damien that this is getting just plain stupid. But, i don't think it should be closed because it brings action to the board and allows users to speak their mind. That is a big part of this board. Oxide, i was not taking any of your babble to heart; i was only defending CS gamers, and i believe i have a right to my own opinion. So, you continue to act the way you are acting, and i wont have to say anything else. You will do all the insulting to yourself without my help.
-
That's funny...not only did you not comment on my post, but you completely avoided any challenges i may have made in retrospect of your allegations of "pussy" games pointed at CS. So, it seems that when it is all said and done...you can talk **** to gamers about one of the best games ever made, but you can't even defend yourself in the games you claim to be "non-pussy" games. Tsk Tsk Tsk...Just gives everyone even more of a reason to degrade you not only as an end-user, but as a gamer alike. The more and more i think about it....you are quite pathetic. p.s. Anyone think this is Jdulmage under a different name, or is he just a lamo also?

Well, i guess since everyone else has this need for ego boosting, i will post my machine specs as well.... Asus A7V Mobo AMD T-bird 1.1 Ghz. 512 mb pc-133 RAM (micron) Asus V7700 Geforce 2 DDR 64megs Wester Digital 40 gig ATA 100 HD (7200 RPM) IBM Deskstar 20 gig (7200 RPM) Kenwood 72x True X CD-ROM SBLive! 3com 10/100 nice (3c905c) Iomega Zip 100 drive (internal) 17" MAG FD-350 flat display monitor I think that about covers it. Im kinda with Ronin on this one....i just like to spend money on the parts, because i have nothing else to spend my money on. I think it is fun upgrading and testing out new possibilities. Anyway...Oxide...nice machine....but get a life dude. If you really feel like being a jack *** , then go outside, pick up a rock, and throw it at a kid bigger than you. Then, just stand there for a sec, and see what happens. Maybe then you will grow up a little. Oh, and i play CS, Q3, Action quake 2, and Unreal Tournament. CS is the most fun and it is the hardest to get good at. In case anyone cares...i play on the PIMP server in CS. If ya ever want to play....I am under the name HarU or -=EuA=-Tommyboy. If ya want to see some cool stats go to: cstrike.digitalrefuge.com. Oxide, if you ever want to get your *** whooped in any First Person Shooter that you think is "not" a game for pussies...ie quake, then you just let me know. I will be sure to help you with that. If nothing else, this post gave everyone a chance to show off there machines...in a friendly way (excluding oxide). And, in that sense, is kinda cool. There's a lot of great machines on this board. Peace out guys...

Do you have an SBLive?? if so, there is a post on the boards right now that fix this problem. In the windows/system folder there is a file called devldr32.exe (or something like that, im too lazy to look at the post again), and if you move that file from the windows/system folder to the "startup" folder it should help. Try installing the Detonator 3 drivers. They seem to be the most stable. Do you run ground control or no one lives forever in D3D or OGL? If OGL, then it looks like you have a D3D driver issue. I would try installing the Det. 3 drivers. I have Det 3's and DX8 running and haven't had any lockups at all. Hope this helps.

Hello. I just wanted all of you hardware/game wizards out there to compare your machine with mine to see if you have any information on why MINE SUCKS!!! I have spent over 1000 dollars lately upgrading my machine to this ultimate kick-a$$ gaming machine, but i am getting pretty crappy performance compared to a lot of lower end machines that i see out there. Okay, now for the facts. Here is my machine: 1.) Asus A7V mobo 2.) TBird 1Ghz. 3.) Asus v7700 Geforce 2 GTS w/64 megs of DDR AM 4.) 256 megs PC-100 RAM 5.) SBLive 6.) Western Digital 40 GB ATA 66 7200 RPM HD 7.) Kenwood True 72X CD-Rom So, i think this machine is pretty decent. Well, apparently Activision doesn't think so, because when i run a Time Demo in Quake 3, it is mediocre. 1024X768 32 bit color and textures Bilinear Then i run the demo and i get about 58 FPS. Shouldn't this machine be pulling like in the high 70's/low 80's at this setting? Another little fact is my 3dmark2000 score is only 4800 points when running 1024X768 with 32 bit color and textures. So, what do you guys think? Is this normal, or do you think my scores should be higher? Thank you guys for your time and any input you can give
-
Like i said before...you guys are wizards. I'm not quite sure what exactly did the trick, but i know it worked. I got DX8, I left the Detonator 3's alone, made sure all my other devices are updated, and i turned the vertical sync off on my Vid card. I am now getting 89 FPS with those same settings. I feel a lot better about this machine now. Thank you guys so much for your help.

Who cares if they stop manufacturing their boards. You will still be able to buy video cards with 3dfx chips in it. So, ummm, kinda like that company that everyone on this board apparently loves.. NVIDIA! Maybe you will start seeing asus boards with 3dfx chips, or maybe CL....that would be cool. But, anyway, its not that big of a deal. Although, that is very disappointing about the V5 6000. I was looking forward to that card.

Hey crusade, im glad everything is working now. I have a question though. How do you get AGP 4x enabled in the bios?? What is the exact setting? Do i need to do anything in windows also? or to my vid card? Can you please let me know how to get my machine to run at AGP 4x?? I've done a post about this before but no one could help me. Obviously, you know how to do it... Here are my specs: Asus A7V Thunderbird 1000mhz. Asus Geforce 2 GTS 64MB Pro 256 PC-100 RAM SB Live! My settings are not tweaked at all. Everything is running at normal clock speed. I know my card and my Mobo can do AGP 4x, i just need a little help enabling it. Thank you.
-
I know i am probably going to suggest stuff that you already know and have already been told before. But, you sound like you need help, so i will try. I had the Same exact setup as you until about a week ago. (i got a geforce 2) Okay, first thing i would do with my system is this: 1.)install win2k 2.)install Via 4in1 drivers (v. 4.24) 3.)install Geforce drivers (what kind of card do you have? If you have a name brand such as the 3d Prophet, Make sure you use their drivers! That's very important. I know they are better from experience. I think they just spend more time on them.) 4.)Then install the sound and all the other bull****. This was the only way i could stop the lockups. Oh, and when you install the Via 4in1's (which by the way is extremely important) make sure you install the AGP driver in Turbo mode. I really think your problem resides in your video drivers. For some reason i had more lockups with my Geforce in Win2k than any other of my cards. I had a 3d prophet DDR-DVI and i used hercules' new drivers. www.hercules.com. If you have a different brand, give their website a look to see if they have any drivers. I hope this helps. Continue to post your experience with this and i will continue to try and help. Good luck.

Well, ive now had a board and a card that can handle AGP 4x, but ive never been able to configure it. And if i am running it, how do i find out? I have an Asus A7V Motherboard and a Geforce 2. I was curious if there was anyone else out there with this kind of setup that could tell me how to get my AGP slot running at 4x. Also, what are the advantages?? Is the increase in performance significant, and will I be able to notice it? There is an option in the BIOS that says AGP 4x Strength...or something like that. But that doesn't really help me seeing as the strength is inconsequential if the slot isn't running 4x. So, in conclusion....i would like to run my Video card at full potential. Can someone please enlighten me on how to do this? Thank you in advance.

I totally agree with you on this eddie, even though you insulted me before. You are right about the advancing technology, but unfortunately, the need to advance technology has struck only users such as us. It has not influenced game manufacturers *yet*. But, i know it will soon. Most likely very soon. As soon as they see the speed and management of the NT kernal, they will advance; I know some have already started. But, as long as games are being more compatible on Win9x, i will encourage people to use it for games, and nothing else. I guess that is just the impatience that i have so much of. If im not satisfied right at the moment, i look elsewhere. When win2k first came out, i used it for games, because i had a dual celeron system. It worked pretty well, the games and apps were faster, the driver databases and hardware management was awesome, but the first instance of a game not working urked me. Then more and more incompatibilities came, and that just kinda ruined my original experience with win2k gaming. It's probably improved since the last time i used it for gaming, and i am sure i will try it again in the near future. I just know that at the moment i am willing to sacrifice speed for compatibility, but i guess on this board, i am alone on that issue. -peace- -HarU

*sigh* Well, i tried to give you a good reason Ronin and all i am getting is "flames" from other "so-called Know-it-alls" that think they are god's gift to computers. Dos and Eddie can go ahead and fiddle around with win2k and all their patches and service packs, and i will buy a game, install it, and play until i am sick of it with no problems. I guess its your choice. If pretending that you are an NT Guru makes you feel smarter, than go ahead. I will continue to run my 100+ computer network at work running Win2k pro, server, and advance server, but until the games that i buy says it supports Win2000, i will continue to use Win98/ME for games. If you guys feel like trying to challenge me on NT questions (because, according to eddie, i don't know what im talking about) then by all means, go for it. And, if you have a fast connection and feel like challenging my "hardcoreness" *cough* eddie and dos, then maybe we can spar for fun. I was just trying to give Ronin a good reason for using ME. -peace- -HarU

Okay, i am going to make this as short as i can because you are beginning to annoy me. "Again not all games run out of the box or run well at all "without any problems" even in 9x. Wanna use a crappy 9x OS? Fine with me that's your decision of course but I like to muddle through and actually help people out by trying to get the games to work not by giving up and running 9x instead. So I guess in that respect I am not a "hardcore gamer" I buy all the latest games, I play and beat all the latest games but I WILL NOT install 9x to play a game I will try my best to get it to work in NT5. If it doesn't then I'll just wait for the patch" Okay, there is no way you are ever going to convince the world that NT5 is more compatible with games than 9x. Im not saying 9x is better, so get that through your thick skull. Unlike you, i am not single-minded. Like ive said before, i am an NT/Unix user. So don't sit there and try to f*cking tell me that NT is better and blah blah blah. I know it is better for quite possibly ever other reason than gaming. A game has a hell of a lot better chance of working on a 9x platform right out of the box than NT. That's the bottom line. Microsoft's said it, game manufacturers have said it, and now ive said it from personal experience. "Rogue Spear ran fine here when I last played it a couple of months ago on an RC of Windows 2000. Don't remember which version. Even took it to a LAN party" Well aren't you just more special than everyone else here. Why don't you do us all a favor and save me from having to type much and do a search on this board for Rogue Spear's sticky keys in Win2k. "Is it Microsoft's fault that the company who made the job did a crappy job of R&D NO? (Except for the control issue which it seems odd that only some games and some people experience). If you are a HARDCORE gamer then you must know that using the latest beta drivers is part of the trade. Also Directx 8 is extremely easy to find on the internet. Obviously you haven't been looking very hard. Mabye you've been spending too much time playing games." You just contradicted your only strong point in this argument. No, it is not MS' fault. When is the last time you saw a service pack for Win98 SE that enables more game compatibility?? (ouch....that one hurt). Oh, by the way, i have DX8, but it sure wasn't easy to get it when it first got out. It was quite hard to obtain, and least for most of us. You seem to be an exception to everyone else's problems, so you probably got it right away right? "Since your a HARDCORE gamer go buy a Playstation,N64,Gameboy or some other lame little console. Obviously you don't wanna help the computer world and would rather play games instead of trying to get them to work MR. HARDCORE." First of all, that is horsesh*t. You're telling me that i need to play games on a little lame console?? Dude, i would love to actually play you at a First Person Shooter Computer game. Console games are lame. I am a computer gamer, so that little attempt of an immature insult there was insignificant. And one last thing..Did you even look at the f*cking post you are in?????? Ronin asked a question. I answered his question and my response was a lot more helpful to the Computer World than any of yours here. I am the one that is helping people get their games to work. Maybe you need to actually use your brain and think before you spout out comments that make you look bad. -HarU

Obviously you didn't open your eyes and read the post DosFreak. I said, these games did not work until the company game out with a patch or something. In these cases, they were service packs, or DX8. On another note that you failed to acknowledge.....I directed that post towards hardcore gamers. I even said that in the post. Now, if you are coming in here and saying, "The simple fact of the matter is Most games work and the ones that don't either suck or are no use wasting time on because newer NT5 compatible games are being released every second." then, in my opinion, you aren't a hardcore gamer. A hardcore gamer isn't going to sit back and "accept" the incompatibilities.....they are going to go out and find an OS that is capable of running any and every game right out of the box without any problems. That's the bottom line! Oh yeah, Rogue Spear, Nox, SOF, and Vampire TM:R didn't run correctly at firs, so does that mean that for that short amount of time, they sucked???? And who gives a sh*t whether the demo works in win2k or not?? One last thing....you came back with saying that nox and rogue spear's sticky keys were fixed in sp1 or DX8...Well, i am sorry but, when i buy a game i don't want to have to wait for microsoft to come out with a damn service pack just so i can play it. And DX8??? So now we are supposed to use beta drivers that are very secretive and hard to get just so our games will run?? Sorry dude, i guess you just don't like gaming as much as some of the rest of us. Peace -HarU
-
Okay, this is for some of you who seem to think win2k will run all of the "newer" games. Here is a list of games that is not compatible, or was not compatible until the company took about a month to get a patch released..... Force Commander (video and sound probs) Daikatana Vampire TM: Redemption Rogue Spear (sticky keys) Nox (sticky keys) Any game from 3DO (refuse to support 2k) Soldier of Fortune (problems with friggin user account) Unfortunately, the list goes on. If you are a hardcore gamer, there really is no choice but to go with a win9x OS for now. Hopefully companies will add support for upcoming games and we can all do away with the crappy win9x platform. Don't get me wrong, I am a total NT/unix user. Win9x completely blows, but Microsoft gives us hardcore gamers no choice. That is the best answer i can give to your question Ronin. Other than that, i find no reason in hell to run any win9x OS. -HarU

Set one box up with the ip 10.7.6.1 and the other with 10.7.6.2. now, bam! they can talk to each other. It's that easy....now if you want to get them both on the internet, that is a little more complicated. Do you have DSL, or Cable? Give me some more info and i can see if i can help.
-
See, the problem with you guys is that if you are here to help people, than it shouldn't matter what OS they are using. The admins decided to start helping win9x users as well as NT users, so, lets honor their wish. If you guys were true helpful people than you wouldn't care what OS these people are using. You should help them, because they need help, and you can give it to them. Thats the bottom line. No exceptions. I am an NT/Unix user, but i have WinMe at home on my gaming machine. Why you ask? Well, i have had problems with compatibility on some hardware and software titles. Just the fact of some companies refusing to add NT support to their coding just pisses me off. So i decided to go with compatibility rather than speed. Anyway, my point is, just because NT is superior, don't sit there and stay one-sided when there are so many people out there that can use our help. That's all. Peace. -HarU

Hey, i have a 2d/3d card that is quite nice. Its a Voodoo 3 2000 PCI. I am willing to sell, but i would rather trade. Do you have any hardware that you could trade? -HarU

Hey guys, i was just wondering what your thoughts were on the new Windows ME. Is it better than 98SE?? If so, what new features does it hold and how is it better?? I am think on upgrading but i want the low-down on the OS before i do anything. Also, does any know where i can get the final?? Like, maybe an ISO or a warez version. I know its not released yet but i also heard that the final was completed and is out on the net now. Thanks in advance. -HarU
-
Well, thx guys, sounds like it may be an eventual replacement for win98SE. But definately won't replace win2k. I probably won't bother with it until it "officially" gets released to the retailers. Thx for the input. -HarU

Okay, I have an Athlon 800 and the Asus K7V mobo. I know the mobo has a lot of cool features that other boards didn't have until the KX-133 chip. The one i am concerned about is the 4X AGP. I have a Geforce DDR that i know is capable at running 4X, but i am not sure how to check it. How do i know if it is running 4X and if it isn't, how do i turn it on? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. P.S. If there are any of you out there with this setup, can you tell me what FPS you are getting with Quake III at 1024x768 with 32 bit color and everything maxed out. (textures, trilinear, etc..) Thank you -HarU
