Meatball, I hate to say it but it's the processor man. If you are willing to spend that much money on a vid card, you should pick yourself up an athlon system if you really want to see what that card can do. You can even just get a 500 or 600 Mhz. for very cheap. But, i know for a fact that this processor is your bottleneck and it is slowing your whole machine down. Hope this helps.

Well, i don't have extra ram....but i do have a Voodoo 3 2000 pci card and a AMD k6-2 300 processor. I would do it for those two if you are interested. thx in advance. -HarU

First of all, you need to be more clear. There are 2 different guillemont ddr/dvis now. Are you talking about the Prophet DDR, or the Prophet 2? Anyways, download the nVidia 5.22 drivers from their website. This will give you the control panel again and you will be able to mess with the gamma. Hope this helps.

If the icons are looking horrible and they are not disappearing when you want them to, i think there are some values in your registry that aren't working properly. I seriously doubt that you could find which ones they are and edit them, so, i recommend that you reinstall win2k using the "upgrade" option (doesn't really upgrade it just keeps your file system in tact). Reinstalling will clean the registry. Hope this helps.

Okay guys....i know every hates daikatana, but i still spent 30 bucks on it and i want to find out how bad it sucks for myself. But, i am having a problem. After i beat the first small mission and it says loading... for the next little mission, the game boots me back to the desktop and says "daikatan.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows....and error log is being created." or something like that. This really sucks because the first little mission is only about 2 minutes long, and that's not enough time for me to figure out whether i like the game or not. Has anyone had these problems???? Can anyone please help??? Here are my pc spcs: Win2k Final abit bp6 w/dual cele 400's oced to 450's 256 MB pc-100 ram 3d Prophet Geforce DDR SBLive. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

ummm, the only problem here oldspice is that all of your fixes pertain to 3dfx's cards only. I have an Nvidia card. A Geforce DDR. These fixes won't work for me. thx anyway though.
-
Well, i think i have one single easy fix for all of these.... Go to www.3dfx.com and download the windows 2000 drivers version 1.00 for V3 2000/3000. All of your problems seem to be video errors (directx included). The drivers that come with win2k for your card don't support sh*t. Once you install these from 3dfx, you will be able to run opengl and direct3d just fine. Hope this helps.

Hey oldspice....thx for the info. Can you send me the dx8beta drivers please??? I would be much appreciated. I still can't play the game and i would really like to see how it is. My email address is: r_tape@hotmail.com Thanks in advance...and thx for your help.
-
What???? I didn't think it was out yet???? Are you talking about the battle net beta test that 1,000 people got to test??? How are you guys playing this game?

Okay guys, i need to borrow your wisdom for a minute. I am going to upgrade my processor to an athlon 800 and i need to know what the best motherboard to use. It has to be very compatible with win2k and i really want the KX133 chip. What do you guys think??? Oh yeah, another important piece of info is, I am running a 3d Prophet geforce DDR. I know there has been compatibility problems with these and the new mobos also. Any help is much appreciated. thanks in advance. -HarU

Well, the KA7 was always one of my first choices. Thank you for the suggestions guys. I think i will get the KA7. thx.

I ran into a problem like that once....but it isn't that bad. The server can't see the others in network neighborhood right? Well, try hosting a game anyways and see if your PC's can see the game. Mine was able to still connect to games even though it was not in Network Neighborhood. Hope this helps.

Try using the drivers that the maker of the card provides. For instance, if you have a creative annihilator pro 2....then use creative's drivers. If that doesn't work....use the 3.78 drivers from Nvidia...they are the most stable. Hope this helps

Okay, my bad....i just checked out the link, and the website that it links to is gone. The "link" is still there, but the website is gone. Stupid people. They need to take that link down.
-
that website does have it. http://win2000tips.home.att.net/ then go to drivers.....then scroll down. it says: (DX8 beta for win2k...not recommended) hope you find it this time

Hey wind, gambler is right. Those LW for win2k drivers aren't very good. They don't run EAX in a LOT of games and they are very choppy. Haven't you noticed your sound stuttering and cutting in and out during gameplay? I know a few games that people complained about were Force Commander, Soldier of Fortune, and Half Life. Those are just a few. Hopefully the new drivers will be much better.
-
Here! Here! I am very antsy about LV3. I can't wait. hehe That's why i got so excited when you said "latest" drivers. oh well, i will just keep waiting.
-
Hey Damien, what latest drivers??? you mean the ones that came out in march? liveware for win2k that came out in march?
-
The problem is not the drivers. First of all, make sure you have the liveware for windows 2000 installed, then go to your audio hq settings, select the speaker option, and at the top right hand of this window is an icon that marks "digital" output. Make sure Digital output is OFF. That is what's causing it. As soon as you turn it off you will get the 4 speakers. I had this same problem with my altec lansing speakers. Hope this helps.

Sorry Marksman, i thought you were trying to be one of those smart ass guys that tries to complicate things. I took your question the wrong way. Im sorry.
-
Yes marksman, they are. But if you have a card that uses bustmastering (most don't) then it has to master the buses. Since the bus starts at PCI slot 1, that is where it needs to be. If there is another card in that slot, then obviously it is doing the mastering. If that is the case, then the network card wont work. I know from experience, so don't come in here and try to start sh*t and cause problems. I am actually trying to help this guy, not start flames.
-
Where can i find the prices to these things? thx.
-
Hmmm...that's interesting. All of the 3c905c that i use at work work fine under win2k. Win2k installs the 3com pci bustmaster drivers blah blah blah for this card, and it works fine. There are two things i can think of. First, make sure that the card is in PCI slot 1, because it uses bustmastering. If that doesn't work, then you may have remnants of old network card drivers that are conflicting. Go into safe mode, uninstall the card, remove it from your motherboard, then boot up into normal mode and let win2k install its drivers. Hope this helps.

Which is fastest, NTFS or FAT32?
HarU replied to Turbo Grunkamoj's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Okay Pumpkin, you are right about NT's MFT, but you made a big mistake. No one ever said anything about Win98!!!! That is called an operating system pumpkin, not a file system. (in a little kid voice) A file system and an operating system are wayyyy different. First of all, win98's fat32 is no where near advanced as win2ks. The file system has been improved from 95 to 98 and now to win2k. Now, win2k offers NT and Fat32. That's right...you can use fat32 on an NT platform!!! Okay, and as far as the MFT goes....When the data is stored, it is stored in clusters. When it is manipulated and retrieved, thats when the MFT's memory comes into play. Still having to gather the information from the clusters. Now, logically, if you have more than one cluster to gather from, don't you think it's going to take longer??? ummmm, yes, yes it is. Oh, and i never said anything about "scanning" clusters. The slowdown comes when the retrieval of stored data comes into effect. Now, on your last point. I am not sure on this one. You said that NT5 (win2k) comes with an NTFS file system that uses 32k clusters???? Considering the fact that you were comparing an outdated operating system with an new and improved file system suggests to me that you may be incorrect on this fact. And...you may be right, im not sure. I do know this....for all of you dual booters out there that use win98 and win2k, in order for both operating systems to see the data stored on your partitions, your partitions need to be Fat32. You can't have icq stored on win98 with a fat32 file system, and expect to have win2k use the same program with an NTFS one. It won't work. They have to be the same. If you are using win2k only, then you may want to use NTFS. Based on these arguments, you can make that decision on your own. -HarU
