Quake3 SMP mode 1 used to always lock up... Here is how you fix that DAMN white screen lockup! You MUST play quake3 in SMP mode in REALTIME. The easiest way to do this, is modify the shortcut on the desktop to read this! cmd.exe /c start /realtime /max e:\Games2k\Quake3\quake3.exe Change the "e:\games2k\quake3" to where your quake directory is... I have not had a lockup with this enable. Gamespy wont let this command work, or pass the server settings to it. I currently just run the shortcut, and go into multiplayer and connect through there. Pain in the !ss I know, but SMP works great, adds 20 -30 more FPS 1024 and under that is. I wonder about applying this technique to other games that wont run properly..??? I am going to try it with RALLY MASTERS... Later

I know after I format, DOS or Win98 DOS will LOCK the C: drive, I have to unlock it to be able to copy system setup files to it. To unlock it you boot from floppy or dos partition and type "LOCK C:" then say yes. This may be related to the problem you are having, doing this from a command prompt within Win98. I have installed Win2k mass times with all sorts of Partitions and OS's, am triple booting with 98se, Win2k and NT4. I setup Win98 first, then just run SETUP.exe from the root of the Win2k CD. Then it will prompt to install a new copy of Win2k, a couple of screens later you will have some options, click ADVANCED, then enable, Select system Partition during Setup, and Copy All Files to Disk. I always found this to be a full proof way to dual boot or triple boot. This way all files are on the HDD, then I dont have a problem with the first load up saying cant find CD because my drive letters changed, cause it found the NTFS partition...! Anyway thats my suggestion... You will then have a boot menu asking which one you would like to boot into, works like a charm...

I tried following the installation procedure listed under the Games Compatibility here on this site. When I copy the files over to temp before hitting the OK to the error message and use the setwin95 option like it says, nothing happens! I double click the _ist???.exe and my drive loads something it seems then nothing happens. hmmm. Even before I run the setwin95 option nothing happened when I ran the .exe there either. Has anyone else been successfull with the installation procedure from this site?

BP6 + Win2k +SMP + Quake3 + TNT/GeForce - Anyone have this c

I reformated my system and left the default Win2k SB Live drivers installed without up[censored] them. I was able to get SMP working for a short time when I left the sound setup in quake3 to low quality, then I restarted quake3 later and it just hung again. Just not sure what is causing this. Anyone know how to disable sound in Quake3 all together? So anyone know how I can update to Win2k 2195.5, I'm just running 2195, do I get a patch for this version or do I need to obtain another full build? -
In the baseq3 dir, modify the q3config.cfg and find "gamma". You will find "ignorehwgamma", set this to 1, then find "r_gamma" and set it to 1.4, or whatever. This will make the screen bright.

Command & Conquer Tiberian Sun, Windows 2000 2195

I have installed it in Win2k 2195, I did not have a problem with it running. It did run like crap though, you have to get the update patch for it. Do you have 2 CDROM drives? Some games will always look in the first CDROM drive letter. Anyways, it runs great now... -
I'm running a couple of Celeron 400's on an Abit BP6, had a TNT now a GeForce and a SB Live card. I'm trying to enable SMP for use with Quake3 Retail, no luck, just locks up the system. I've tried various Detonator drivers, all seem to do the same thing. I just formatted my PC thinking the SB Live driver update from Creative was causing this to happen, but NOT! Quake3 SMP worked fine under NT4, but once Win2k 2195 was out, I nucked it. I had the same problem with a TNT Viper 550 as I am getting with my new GeForce Guillemot card. Whats the diff with Win2k 2195 to 2195.3 or .5 ? I just need to know if others have this combination working ok, if so HOW!
