    What Detonator 5.14 fixes

Damn, was that Reaper Bot good! One of the first bots that was actually able to "learn" how to counter a player´s attack with maximum efficiency. Remembering those times makes me feel so old, really darn old...

    Too fast. I need help.

If what Toby suggests is disabling ACPI support of Win2000, you can do that without flashing your BIOS or reinstalling the OS. Right click on "My Computer" and choose "Properties". Go to the "Hardware" tab and choose "Device Manager...".In the window appearing, click on the "+" on the left side of "Computer". The tree deflates and you should be able to read something like "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC". Right click on it and choose "Properties". Go to the "Driver" tab and select "Update Driver". Click "Next". Choose "Display a list of the known drivers..." and click "Next". The "Select a device driver" window should pop up. Mark the "Show all hardware of this device class" line. In the "Models" row, select "Standard PC". Click "Next" twice to install the different drivers and then "Finish" to complete installation. Resart your machine. Again, if what Toby suggests is disabling ACPI support, here´s how to do it without flashing BIOSes or reinstalling OSes
  3. How can one install Creative Labs Unified drivers while using Detonator 5.13? I own a CL GeForce and everytime I try to install Unified it says I´d need a CL graphics board to do so. I also tried with CL´s drivers for the GeForce but nothing happened either. Please help

    Overclocking GeForce - for what?

A question I always wanted to ask (when I was not online ) is what you get in the term of FPS increase by overclocking your GeForce DDR. I remember having read an article saying benefits would be nearly unnoticeable. Please post your experiences here! ------------------ Celeron 300A @ 450 256 MB SD-RAM 40 GB HD SB-Live! Value 3Com 905 TX AVM Fritz! Classic GeForce 256 DDR (Annihilator Pro) Adaptec 2940 SCSI-2 Pioneer DVD-303 SCSI
  5. Did someone get another program that normally won´t work with Win2000 to work by using this program? If yes what program was it?
  6. Quake 3 crashes while using the A3D to EAX patch (converter?) with A3D enabled in the Q3 settings. Anyone knows what´s up? ------------------ Celeron 300A @ 450 256 MB SD-RAM 40 GB HD SB-Live! 8. I´m trying to reassemble my 133 MHZ machine, but using mainboard #1 results in a "keyboard error or no keyboard present. Press DEL to enter setup or F1 to continue" message (how am I supposed to press a key if keyboard ain´t workin´?!) and using the other mainboard leads to a very beautiful black screen (I really hate modern art) at startup. Items used at startup: 133 MHZ processor 32 MB EDO-RAM 4 GB HD Matrox Mystique 4 / 8 MB (can´t remember how much exactly) So, what does this have to do with NT Compatible? If i get this crap to finally working, I´m going to upgrade RAM to 64 MB, put W2k on it and use it as a fileserver for my little private network. ;( 8)

some other kind of hardware problem...

Beavis: it is Actually, I thought a while if I should write that I already checked if the keyboard is plugged in but then went the "nah, these folks surely assume I´ve checked that" way euankirkhope: I tried with three keyboards, none of them work. Everything is unplugged except graphics card and RAM. I´m going to get the sledgehammer from the basement and put it next to the ´puter for threatening reasons. Worked once, maybe will work a second time, too Not unplugging devices with power on? Hell, I do that 24/7
  10. always had distorted graphics in Unreal Tournament OpenGL, nothing seemed to fix that. Downgrading to the first hacked Detonator drivers was as useless as upgrading to nVidia´s newest stuff. Strange thing was, using Direct3D seemed do solve the problem but tradeoff was that Microsoft´s API is ALOT slower than OpenGL. So I played a little with UT´s settings in the "UnrealTournament.ini" file and came up with the following settings: Translucency=True VolumetricLighting=True ShinySurfaces=True Coronas=True HighDetailActors=True DetailTextures=True DescFlags=9 Description=NVIDIA GeForce DDR Use32BitTextures=True UsePrecache=True UseMipmapping=True UseTrilinear=True UseMultitexture=True UseTripleBuffering=True Use32BitTextures=True UsePageFlipping=True UsePalettes=True UseFullscreen=True UseGammaCorrection=True Use3dfx=False if everything works correctly with this posting, you should be able to copy & paste these settings directly into the "[OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice]" subsection of your "UnrealTournament.ini" file (of course without the " ). Don´t forget to make a backup of it before tampering with it! After 8 hours of continuous UT gambling I have to say these settings work like a charm. I hope this helps other people as much as it helped me

  13. How can I connect to a computer running Windows 2000 with a machine running Windows 98? My Win98 system keeps telling me it needs a password to connect to " Ressource: \\I300\IPC$". I tried my admin password but it still keeps asking. If anyone got an idea on what´s up and / or how to fix that please post here. Thanx in advance.

    Microsoft "AppUpd" not working

What Ekstreme is asking you for is a complete list of your system´s configuration, what videocard you use, soundcard, amount of RAM and so on

    DOS gaming??

first off, get yourself SoundFX (there is a link to this somewhere here on ntcompatible) to get the sound to work for DOS games. play a little with it´s settings to figure out which one fits best to your system. Abuse was VERY playable for ten minutes (the time allowed to play by SoundFX since it´s only a demo). If I get Privateer (1) to work under W2k, I´ll buy this SoundFX stuff...
  16. install with the "setup.exe -lgntforce" command, apply the 2.3 patch and enjoy the game. unlike w9x, w2k runs SShock 2 without crashes (at least for me)

    Win2k and Unreal Tournament

Almost the same happened to me, except I upgraded from a Voodoo 2 to a GeForce 256. Problem seems to be that nVidia chipsets need more RAM than 3dfx do, which leads to the solution I´ve chosen: upgrading from 128 MB RAM to 256. No swapping to harddrive anymore. My other computer is without memory for ´bout a month now...
  20. how can I recover my lost Administrator password of W2k build 2195 FAT16 file system? How could I recover the password if the partition is formatted with FAT32 or NTFS? If you´re wondering, I´m writing this using Win98 on the second primary partition

Refresh Rates in OpenGL or Direct3D?

Had exactly the same problem. Here´s how I solved it: for DirectX applications, goto Start -> Run enter "dxdiag" at the "open" prompt (of course without the "), go to "more help" (the last tab of the just popped up DirectX Diagnostic Tool, hit the "override" button and enter the desired refresh rate in the "Override Value" line. for OpenGL apps (you could use that too for DX apps) get the latest version of Powerstrip (www.entechtaiwan.com , if I remember right). After installation, configure Powerstrip as needed, right click on the Powerstrip icon in the taskbar, goto "Powerstrip configuration", then the "Presets" tab and associate a screen resolution, a refresh rate and a color depth to the programs you like to start. Run your apps as normal, no trouble any more

    W2k SBLive lag in sound...

After finally installing the Liveware 3.0 to get 4 speaker support on my SBLive, sound lags behind the action. Take UT for example. I´m dead, then I hear the shot. It´s lagging just about 1/4 second, but that timespan decided a little too often about life and death of my alter ego. So if anyone knows how to fix the lag and keep the 4-speaker-support please post the answer here. (I know I can go back to 2 speaker support, so don´t post *that* )

    W2k+GeForce+UT/Q3A memory problem

Thanx to Greggy for his reply, his solution worked pretty well for me. (W2k+GeForce+OpenGL+UT thread...) However, I have another problem now. Everytime I start up UT or Q3A the games take some time to precache files. You ought to think everything runs smoothly now. Instead, on map startup i have a significant increase in memory to harddrive swapping. The only solution to fix this was upgrading from 128 MB RAM to 256 MB. However my second ´puter doesn´t have any RAM now and I can´t afford to buy another 128 MB SDRAM. Does anyone know how to prevent swapping with only 128 MB? Thanx in advance
