    System reboots during Games :(

On occasions the system just reboots when im playing games, including Half-life, Quake3, Vampire etc. I have the system set to auto reboot upon errors, so why does it still reboot? im dual booting WinME/Win2k and it never occurs in WinMe. My hardware is as follows... Intel Celeron366 o/c 550mhz Geforce SDR (Using 6.18 drivers) Diamond MX300 (Using Aureal's last driver release) Realtek network card Diamond Supraexpress 56k internal modem 128mb PC100 ABit BH6 (Not latest Bios release) Aopen DVD rom IBM 7200rpm 14gig HD 250W PSU Thats probably all thats relevant, but what could be causing this? the only things i can think of are use some older MX300 drivers, or take the card out all together, or flash my motherboard bios. I have tried many Geforce drivers so that rules that one out. Using DX7, and Service pack 1 btw.

Alcatel USB DSL modem XP problem

Im getting a Driver_irq_notless_orEqual error with Alcan5wn.sys Its a known problem with this modem and Windows XP. The solution posed is to use the PPP over Ethernet drivers instead of the PPPoA ones. Problem is that the isp im using (BT internet) wont support PPPoE, and the modem can never make a connection. Which means that i have to use the PPPoA drivers. Are there any other ways of making this thing work?

Alcatel USB DSL modem XP problem

I dont think my problem is due to the power supply, as i have tried it on a Celeron system with BX motherboard and 300W PSU and also a PII system using an LX motherboard and 300W psu and both machines do the same with XP, but using Windows 2000 they are fine. The problem is most definately WindowsXP and the modem drivers.

    Configuring NAT in Win2k Server

Im using a USB ADSL modem (Alcatel SpeedTouch) The only drivers i can use are PPP over ATM (PPPoA), when i try to setup NAT and the wizard lists my network adapters, then USB modem isnt listed. However the modem does have a Network Adapters entry in Device manager. Any ideas how i can set NAT up to use my USB modem? It works using ICS btw, but i would prefer to use NAT.

    Slow transfers

Im using a no-name 5Port 100mb Switch, two machines connected running at 100mb, and an uplink to a 10mb hub with some others connected. My problem now is that file transfers using ftp between machines only operates at around 1000k/s which is only a tenth of what it should be. Any ideas what the problem is? Im using IIS to host the ftp site on one of the machines.

Well i took the card back, and got it replaced for a Dlink one, now transfers are 7MB/s in both directions!

    W2K Server ICS DNS trouble

Im using ICS to share my broadband connection, im using a USB DSL modem. Ive setup AD, DHCP and DNS, but clients cannot resolve external names, but can ping external IP addresses. Im guessing i need to setup another DNS server for external name resolution and one for internal network names. How do i do this?

    W2K Server ICS DNS trouble

What ive done now is set up DHCP to give clients my isp's DNS server ip. This allows the connecting computers Internet access, but i guess then i loose caching, recursion and internal DNS data. I would still like to know how i enable my server to allow forwarders. Thanks for the help so far though.

    W2K Server ICS DNS trouble

If i remove the DNS network component and re-install it, it reports that it cannot set the root hints in the registry. When i first configure it, i can set the Forwarders, but then once ive closed the console and opened it again, its all ghosted. Any ideas what to do?

    W2K Server ICS DNS trouble

I've read most of that and im still unsure of what to do. Im told "Forwarders are not available becuase this is a root server" but cannot find how i change the server.

    W2K Server ICS DNS trouble

It wont let me set that becuase i have it set as a root dns server. So i suppose the question to be asked is how do i change that?

Alcatel USB DSL modem XP problem

Im running version 1.4 which is the latest available on their website. I still get the BSOD after about 15hours use, sometimes less, sometimes longer. Its annoying because i want to be able to leave my system unattended for days.

    Slow transfers

Well it would be good for a 10mb network, but im running at 100mb!
  17. 2K -> XP is fine, but transfers from XP to 2K are at about 2k/s! Any ideas? im just using TCP/IP and Client for MS networks. Ive tried setting up an Ftp on the XP machine, and transfers to the 2K machine are the same.

    Windows 2000 network really slow

I have a Windows 2000 machine on my network that hosts an Internet connection using ICS. The problem is that file transfers, or anything else for that matter are really slow going from another machine to the Windows 2000 one. We are talking 10k/s! Transfers from the Windows 2000 machine to others are fine though. Im using a fresh install of 2K too. Any ideas? Im using a 100mb switch, but have tried connection two machines with a cross-over cable and the same thing has occurred.

    Windows 2000 network really slow

Some more info here... The Windows 2000 machine is running NTFS whearas the XP machine is using Fat32. All COmputers on the network cannot copy file that contain folder/many small files, but they can transfer large single files quite quickly. Other Computers on the network can transfer files quickly between each other, including mixes of 2K and XP Operating systems. The error received when trying to copy to the 2000 ICS server is "The specified network name is no longer available". So its probably something to do with the TCP/IP receiving buffers on that machine, but what can i do about it?

Network XP -> 2K Slow in one direction

Ive worked out the problem is due to WIndows 2000. Transfers from that machine to others are really quick, but really slow when trying to send network data to the Windows 2000 machine. Its a fresh install of Windows 2000 also.

Alcatel USB DSL modem XP problem

Its USB, the PPPoA drivers allow it to be used just like any other modem through dialup networking.

Alcatel USB DSL modem XP problem

yeah, thats what im doing. WindowsXP has a PPPoE client, and im using Alcatel drivers that make the USB modem appear as a network adapter. The problem is that the ISP im using wont allow PPPoE connections on its servers.
