when ever i connect to the internet in Win2k i get an error in the DUN status window, under the "Received" section. I get it immediately after i have dialed in, and my pass/username is verified. I have to wait about a minute before i can receive any data after this. But then everything is ok. It must be something to do with DUN settings. Any ideas what?

Win2k Startup takes about a year...
Winger300 replied to CeRbErO's topic in Customization & Tweaking
i have the same prob. Im using a Celeron@550mhz and 128mb. I think it may be something to do with me having a Network card, but not having anything connected to it. So it has to wait for a time-out before continuing -
Well, in the DUN status box there is a section called Errors, and then columns for Received and sent. Well in the received section it says "Errors: 1". So i cant really be any more specific about it. I always get 1 error on Dial-in. Using any ISP. Im thinking it must be something to do with the authentification settings. After the modem has dialed it does take a long time to verify my password.

I just tried it and it works quite well, the keys still get stuck in NFS:Porsche Unleashed, but only about once per race, makes it much more playable. Before it was impossible to go in a straight line! A word of warning though, make sure you dont replace those two files (which cannot be replaced in safe mode). I did it in Win98, and transfered all the files, it messed up Win2k bad, had to re-install. When i did it in Win2k safe mode it works fine.

Sticky Keys: You know how if you see a really nice and pretty girl on your computer... well you can guess the rest, but it can get your keyboard in a right state!

i dont really know. Win95 had a 21day limit/bug but i could never run it that long without crashing it and having to restart. Win2k crashes much less so maybe when im at University (and not paying Electricity Bills) ill test it out

You must set the S3 Virge to be the Primary boot up device (In the Bios). It only works in Win2k if it is primary for some reason. But once in Win2k you can set the AGP card as primary on-the-fly Check www.realtimesoft.com/multimon for a Database of Compatible vid card for Win2k+Multi monitor.

Im about to upgrade to Win2k, one problem is that there are no drivers from ModularTech for my Galaxy TV tuner. The tuners uses the standard BTtv encoder chip so im thinking that i could use some other drivers (not specifically for my card) The problem is that the Card passes the audio over the PCI bus (rather than using a Loop-thru cable) so the driver must support this. I don't know how well its going to work but any help would be appreciated

Will that version work in the UK? Maybe you could Rar the file into smaller parts that could be put on Webspace

I agree with the above message that if you are the average home user (who obviously isn't going to pay $2000 for their Operating system ) is not doing anything wrong using the software to learn from, and play around with. If they didnt pirate it, them they simply wouldnt buy it! So MS aren't loosing out at all. If they distribute it then its another matter all together. Most people here are using Windows2000 for gaming, well its definately not a gamers OS, and support is rather sparodic for games, so why should a gamer buy Windows2000?

All i can find for this Modem, which is built onto my i810 chipset (HSP AUDIOMODEM Riser) is NT4 drivers, they will install and work but then my mouse wont work. There is only 1 com port and no PS/2. The modem is made by PCTel but they dont supply the actual modems and offer no support. The motherboard is a PC-Chips and they dont seem to reply to e-mails I cant seem to get both my mouse and modem working together. Any ideas?

I was using a serial mouse all along and it still happens. maybe just not as often, but then ive never used Win2k with a Ps/2 mouse so i dont know any worse

about half of my games work with build 2195, are microsoft just going to release this thing to the world, because to me it looks just like Win NT4+Dx7 Is Win2kpro going to be a replacement for Win98 because if it is, new PCs will ship with it and theres going to be a lot of unhappy peeps, I do remember hearing that Microsoft are going to release Win2k based on 98 technology, but i guess that was Win98SE for what its worth or are my problems just because of premature Geforce drivers?

i assume your talking about Swedish touring car championship. a game like that was written by Digital Illusions i beleive, they were originally Demo coders. Therefore they play on the custom design features of Win9x and DX to squeeze out everything they can. You will most likely find that games like that wont work without a patch. Games programmers who write games such as UT or Quake3 are very clean with their code. As they know that they are going to port it to other OSes, which means it works with Win2K without too much of a problem.

Are you overclocking at all? if yes, try setting your HD to work in PIO mode instead of DMA mode in WIn2k, ok it will slow it down, but if it sorts it, then its worth it
-
dont you think its kind of Ironic, Fifa 2000 not working on Windows 2000
-
yeah, i had a problem finding this, but in Device manager under IDE Controllers, or something like that there are settings for DMA or PIO mode on each IDE channel, i was looking in the drive properties section like in Win98. So just have a snoop around and youll find them

Is there any way i can run dual monitor configuration, with 2 3d cards and choose which one i want to do direct3d? The reason i ask is that my S3 virge will only work as the Primary card, but this means i cant play games on my Geforce
-
you can ad the modem manually, i have the same modem and it is first detected as a different type, remove this first and then install the new driver
-
OK, after messing around with this game ive found a way of getting around the annoying DX5 popup. Just make a short-cut for the Comi.exe file in the dir where you installed it, the select properties on that shortcut and where it says "start in" enter the letter of your cd drive, eg D:\ run the shortcut and hey presto! The only problem ive found is that the game lags a little, and then the animation suddenly speeds up to catch up with the sound

Win2k, 2 3D cards, i need an app to choose which D3d to use
Winger300 replied to Winger300's topic in Games
if i do that, then D3d is dasbled in both cards -
im overclocking my Celeron 300 to 375 (83mhz bus) and in order to do this i need to disable DMA, in Win98 this is no problem, but how do i do that in Win2k?
-
although i have not tried this myself ive heard that ver 3 of the AOL software will let you use Win2k+AOl
-
In the final release it still occurs in AVP, i find that in Win98 and i press too many keys it beeps, but in Win2k it just locks them
-
i get the same prob, it looks like the game needs fixing. When Win2k is released im sure there will be a ton of patches for games else theres gonna be a lot of unhappy peeps.
