Going to get rid of WINME, and put WIN98SE on my hd. My questoin is, is there any compatibility issues with ATA66 (have a BE-6 MB right now with Highpoint ATA66 on the mb). Or will it install fine, and then I just go to highpoint's webiste, and get drivers after installation is complete? ------------------ [Here is my system] Windows 2000 w/SP1 Intel Celeron 566 @ 901 Abit BE6 Rv1 3d Prophet 2 Mx (7.62 drivers) Soundblaster Live! Seems like since I followed TimmyC's registry tweak for my geforce, anytime I turn off my computer now, and start it back up, I get One long beep, and 3 or 4 short beeps (Abit BE6 mb, Geforce 2 mx prophet video card). No idea why. Both manuals dont have any info on this. I am wondering, if disabling any of these is causing the problem, because I disabled these in the bios: Video BIOS cacheable Video BIOS shadow VGA Palette Snoop PCI Palette Snoop C8xxxx-CBxxxx Shadow Any ideas? I have a 300 W power supply, and if i RESTART the computer, this doesn't happen. But i turn off my computer at night, and in the morning, i experience this. I have a Sony E400 monitor, and it says Monitor is in Power Save mode when I start up, and after I hear the beeps =(

Thanks for the help clutch. Hoping for success after work today with fixing this. I wonder if this issue is causing my winme to freeze on occasion. I wonder which one of these settings is causing the hangup. Never heard of this before.

What is the possibility if I dont see a display when booting up the computer, that hitting delete will get me into the bios? Also, any idea which one of those options I disabled coudl be causing the problem? I will reset them all back to enabled, but wondering if you ever experienced / or seen this before.
-
BTW- I am not sure if I will be able to get into the bios. I will try tonight, but as far as these two past mornings, It bootsup, screen is black / in standby mode....I wonder if Delete will even bring the bios up. If it doesn't what do you suggest?

Thanks. You have heard of issues with these settings causing these problems?

Does installing winxp on my E partition affect this hpt366 process/error? Right now, I put the winxp cd in while in winme, click new install, then i reboot, hit f6, have the newest highpoint drivers on floppy, and go through the install. When I see the logo screen for the first time, it eventually goes away and i get the hpt366 error. I am wondering if my WINME installation on my C:\ may be doing this? When it asks for a directory (while running setup in winme) to copy files to, it is defaulted to //windows . Any ideas?

I have heard a lot of rumors that WINXP violates your privacy. I heard it sends a lot of information to MS and other sites when registering, and while using it. Is this entirely true?

Running Geforce 2 mx, and have my AGP Apature size set at 64 in my bios (BE6 mb). Someone said I should have it at 128. Can someone confirm this, and/or tell me what the difference is, and what Apature size is? Thanks =)

I have winme on my system now. I am going to install winxp beta 2 on a seperate fat32 partition. When it is installed, how do I go about installing programs that i have already installed in winme? Copy over them? Or do i not need to install the programs, just point to them in windows explorer and run them? Thanks
-
Why did you have to run it under win2k compatibilty mode and not in WINXP normal mode?
-
How is your "privacy" in winxp? I heard that ms has a lot of access to your information / files.
-
Do you all think that this "setup" is a good way to go then for my home computer? Having WINME on for my games only. Use winxp for Internet Apps / Office / and any applications or utilities? Leave winme strickly for gaming?
-
I ask because. About a week and a half ago, I clean formated my hd, got rid of win2k.and put winme on. Now I have the xp beta, and a lot of my crap is installed in ME. I am thinking of unistalling office, and my internet apps (mirc, ftp stuff, etc) and my web page software, and just running that in winxp. I am heavy into Flight Sim 2000, and that ran terrible in win2k. I doubt it will run that good in xp, but it runs great in winme. So that is why I was looking at using winme just for gaming, and XP for everything else. Wonder how many people run a setup like this out there.
-
Reinstall my apps on a seperate partition? So my OUTLOOK 2000 (part of office 2000) needs to be completely reinsalled on another partition? That will cause me to re-setup my whole email. There isn't another way/ BTW - Would you recommend me keeping my ME just for games, and Internet / Web Applications / Office / ETC for WINDOWS XP beta 2?

Any tricks / secrets to dual booting? Have winme on now, want to dual with winxp.

I just upgraded from 256 to 384 megs of ram, and wondering if you all see this as beneficial? I heard anything after 256 does minimal things to windows 2000? What should my page file be set at with this setting? Should i put the page file on the same partition as WIN2000? or a different one? ------------------ [Here is my system] Intel Celeron 566 @ 901 Abit BE6 Rv1 3d Prophet 2 Mx (6.34 drivers) Soundblaster Live! I have been running WIN2000 for over a year now, and I am slowly getting fed up with it. My joystick seems to cause games to pause (due to IRQ Sharing) and I am noticing my Virtual Memory giving me warnings in games that the minimum Virtual Memory is to low (when I have 256 Megs ram) Is it possible for me to installed WINME after I installed win2k? If so, how do i do this to get a dual boot?

....one set, that is top notch performance, and everyone lieks? Why does there have to be a new version out almost daily, which really doesn't fix much at all ------------------ [Here is my system] Intel Celeron 566 @ 901 Abit BE6 Rv1 3d Prophet 2 Mx (6.34 drivers) Soundblaster Live!
